Advisable. If you get a software update from Apple, there are things going on behind the scenes that ensure you're getting the real file. This is helpful for security. By circumventing this process you're putting faith in the unauthorized source of the ipsw. Checking the md5 and comparing it to what devs say is the md5 of the file from Apple (or what other forum members say seems to work) is a way to protect yourself (but it's not a guarantee everything will go well).

Nahh.. the MD5 is just a verification that all the data is there. I got mine via torrent.

go backwards.. I posted where I got it.. just take the dashes out of what I posted.

MD5 is a Hash, and in a nut shell, when you Hash something, it comes out to one number, every time. This, if you download one of these and then check it's MD5 (hash it) with what people are saying it is, and they match, then you know you have the same file. If yours is different, it means you either downloaded a bad file or something happened during the download and it lost some data, thus making your file different than the rest.

i downloaded the GM from that twitter site. I first tried doing an update and that gave me an error at the end. I end did a restore and the update worked. Its restoring now.

downloaded the GM and maps for my local area (Essex UK) is still POOR. nobody can give me the s*** about it "being a beta" because this is being put on the iPhone 5. all i can hope is that google release their map app SOON.

London now has 3d maps all be it awful quality and i'll be honest if i look out of my office window, i can see a better quality 3d rendering of the Gherkin and Herron Tower than Apple can give me.

Apple, please don't release things when they aren't ready for public use. Siri has already pissed me off enough as a UK customer.

In the worst case scenario you are half-upgraded to iOS 6 and cannot downgrade to iOS5 or boot or do anything. In that case you are hosed for a week. It's a small but real possibility.

Any Dev's have the MD5 for the iPad 3 Wifi+4G GSM?

And while I know it's posted already, but can confirm that the iPhone 4S MD5 is right?

I am not a dev. But I installed both today from torrent without issue:

Updated my iPhone 4. All is well.

just downloaded and installed the GM

question, does passbook work? cause every time I launch the app it just says what it does and theres nothing else I can do.
