If you receive that the iOS 5.1 is the latest version, you need close and open again itunes to iOS6 upgrade shows in your update status. Cheers... already downloading

I just kept clicking the "Check for Update" button until if finally showed up.

It started that way for me, but it's gone past it now (the next stage should be something like verifying new software). (4S)

Blah. At work without wifi so I can't update my iPhone. I can, and am, tethering my iPad to my iphone to slowly upgrade my iPad. Thankful for my 6Gig data plan!
