Well lets hope google release a maps app soon. Apples offering is horrible. Miss street view, and flyover is terrible, renders strange making cities look like a war zone! See no useful application for that feature.

Oh well!

Didn't they start from Tom Tom which has been around a while? I could be wrong.

Sure, but the things people are complaining about (POIs and mass transit) are not things Tom-Tom necessarily excelled at. Yelp is now doing the POIs and I'm sure they'll get someone to update the mass transit info (or add it in this case).

Apps take time to mature once they've hit the open market. Expecting it to be as polished as a 5 year old app / 7 year old service is kinda ridiculous.

BTW, the people crying about these features are completely missing what's really improved with the new Maps. Personally, I'm stoked about the vector rendering. There were times my google maps would be useless because it would take forever to pull in the next quadrant of data....(which is partially AT&Ts fault as well)

Nice try at what? There were plenty of articles written about how much Apple paid Google for the Maps service being included stock on iOS. You're whining a complaining because an app that's been available for less than a day doesn't have EVERY feature an app that has been around since 2005 has?

what do i care why apple decides to crlpple its own app? How many compnits replace poplar apps with a WORSE version ?

And bcause its apple i should just accept it ? Wait to ios 7 before they come up to ios 5 standaards? No thx, if they screw up i will call them out on it, no matter how many times you label that whining.

All the while completely ignoring the things it does BETTER. For instance, navigation, vector-rendering, the POI cards have more info etc.

i dont like in the usa and here its a lot worse, and going by the reviews its worse in the usa as well.

The only thing better is a very limited and gimmicky 3d view .

By the way, don't look outside because the sky is falling as well....
oh please why do people get so upset when therre favorite brand gets some critics? Its only a money grubing companys like all the rest, get over it .

Why on earth did they remove YouTube from the OS?
My special needs daughter uses this all of the time because of her limited abilities - now it is gone.

Thanks for nothing Apple - now I will have to give her my Samsung Galaxy which has all the bells and whistles!!!

Google's already released a Youtube app, I thought?

Love how you can rotate the maps in Maps now rather than just the static North/Up or Compass view; makes it much more useful.

Hey, by all means let the fact they changed the maps app (in your opinion) for the worse ruin your experience. I'm obviously in the minority given I never used Street View, I have navigation in my car and I don't use mass transit (since it doesn't really exist where I live). I'm stoked they sped up the rendering lol which I guess many other people don't care about.

If they add support for the things they "took away" by iOS7 it won't be as good as Google Maps, it will be BETTER because of the reasons I mentioned.

I'm sorry it sucks so much for you.

Yes by all means toss out iOS because they didn't include stock an app which you can DL on the app store/view via the internet.

The overreaction to everything is hilarious!

If they had included anything else that would be actually usefull it migth have ignored it i will probably just return to ios 5 and hope they improve it quickly, but i doubt it .

I hope Google bring out a standalone Maps app very soon as the Apple one is a joke for UK users.

All roads are drawn in white and there are no road numbers so it is completely useless for navigating. FAIL

EDIT: Ah, Motorways are drawn in yellow and have road numbers. Yellow FFS, blue is the standard colour for M-ways on UK maps. This was my one big gripe with Auto-Route years ago; the colours used for roads was different to the standard used in the UK

Also, I was pleased to see that you can now view Flagged messages in the Mail app ... but it isn't synced with Mail.app on my Mac. I've 11 Flagged messages on my Mac, but only 3 (different ones) Flagged on my iPhone. FAIL

I actually think the " its such a fantastic update" crowd is hilarious, when they started about thE panarama mode in the keynote i realised this update will be even less then ios 5 , well we can always hope 7 is better .

You mean you don't find the flyovers useful?

I think same reason like why they pulled out of Google Maps and went into their own maps. There is a lot going on between them now.

Yes, the youtube app is gone, but you can download it from App Store as a separate, new app. Just saving your 200 bucks so that you dont have to buy a Galaxy for you tube alone!!

I went to the Passbook app. All it was there was the "App Store" link. But when I clicked on it, it took me to the App store with the older tabs (Search/Top etc), and said "could not connect to iTunes store", whereas in the new App Store there is the Genius tabs etc.

Anyone else facing the same issue??
:(

Same here.

Here are the things I'm excited about in iOS6....and no I couldn't care less that some of these were included in Android long ago. I buy Apple because I like the way they do things:

-streaming from iTunes Match as opposed to DLing on mobile devices
-Passbook
-The camera updates (including Panorama)
-Do Not Disturb
-Beefier privacy settings
-Improved Siri (half the time my only question is, "what's the score of the game")
-Full Screen Safari and improved browsing speed (shown to be the fastest Sunspider score ever - regardless of if you put any stock in those benchmarks)
-The new brightness control (moving from incredibly dark to light is gradual and overall the auto brightness is much more accurate. I'd assume this helps with battery life and efficiency)
-Infinite Safari tabs
-Email upgrades (VIP. Flagged especially)
-Improved UI designs (I actually like the new app store, itunes store and music apps. plus the top bar colors match the app you're in which gives for an overall more immersive experience)
-FB integration (is neat....I mean its slightly better than Twitter integration even though I don't use either service a ton)
-And Maps (as I've stated the new vector-rendering system is why I like this maps app better).

Those are my reasons to upgrade. Plus I'm not really losing anything by doing so. I guess if you hate the maps app you would be - but there are plenty of other features and tweaks that I havent even mentioned or played with. Looking forward to doing so tonight.

iPS6?
Downloaded on iP4, and it's worthless update.
GMaps gone, YT for iPad gone... Ugly app store/itunes store
Damned, i dont see one fu****g reason to instal it on my ipad2. Absolutely useless update.

Just checked, on my 16Gb 3Gs I need 2.1Gb of free space to do the update, the DL is about 500Mb. I only have 1.3Gb of free space on mine so will have to wait until I hook it up to my Mac later today.

You're right, a different maps app, an app (whose content is readily available on the web in a nicer format I might add) is gone off the iPad and an "ugly" store trump the other 200 features of iOS6.

Don't bother downloading it - will free up bandwidth for those of us that do! :D

Tried to force restart my iPad. Same empty bar as before. iPhone decided to move on it's own though. Don't know why it took so long though. Maybe iPad will do something soon...

My iPad sat at the Apple logo screen and the for 45 minutes waiting for the firmware update progress bar to move. I rebooted same thing (twice). I called Apple and they said it was my wifi. Of course on that screen you can't check the connection. My iPhone4s and laptop had wifi. Then they said it must be server overload. Well as far as I know I had downloaded the update. So is it some kind of authentication issue?

I threw it in the car and half an hour later it was up and running after I went home. I'll never try this at work again.

Good for you but dont use match, fb,pasbook and all the rest are minor updates

I want multiple user accounts, live tiles, Airdrop, quick acces buttons? Better cursor navigation, set default apps,... You know things everyone will use .

Stillll...downloaaaaddding.

I 2nd your list and views! :)

Good luck with CloneSung :)

I want a decent Maps app on my phone. Thanks to this bit of foot-shooting by Apple, my 3-year-old Android phone, which is overdue for an update, now has a better Maps application than my iPad 3. Pardon me if my plan to replace it with an iPhone 5 has been derailed.

The original Galaxy S may have been a blatent iClone for which Samsung deserved to be sued, but have a look at an SIII or Galaxy Nexus sometime. They're a rather different kettle of fish.
