Yeah, you could argue that having "just" 1 GB of RAM was the problem, but Apple designs the software for the hardware. It should have worked a lot better.

While 7.1 is indeed much more reliable than 7.0.x, the lack of RAM is still an issue. For example, I still need to manually kill everything else on my rMini (or fully reboot) to be able to properly run XCOM: Enemy Unknown...

I'm not liking the new black text for labels.

I guess I'll have to get used to it.

Excellent, GBA4iOS still works after turning the date back to 2012 if anyone was wondering.

iOS 7.1 is what ios 7 would have been like back in September. It is a quality release, but still doesn't solve many of ios' issues.

It was a dog. I think it was the first version of iOS to run slow on the device it debuted with (the iPhone 5S).

iOS 6 flew on the iPhone 5
iOS 5 flew on the iPhone 4S
iOS 4 flew on the iPhone 4
iOS 3 flew on the iPhone 3GS

iOS 7 on the iPhone 5S? Pauses in animation. Delays in switching between apps. SpringBoard crashing far too often. Yeah, you could argue that having "just" 1 GB of RAM was the problem, but Apple designs the software for the hardware. It should have worked a lot better.
But everyone said iOS 7 was just a coat of paint and nothing more. Mark Gurman claimed iOS 7 had NO new features, just visual tweaks. Amazing how just a new coat of paint could cause the software to be a "dog".

I would say, wait a bit before you actually make such a statement. You just updated the OS, made a cold boot and all settings and files were updated. Give it a couple of days...

He's right. I've made several hardcore tests with the 7.1 betas (I've very frequently reported on them here in the MR forums) and compared them to 7.0.4 / 7.0.6.

7.1 has been really superior, even as of b2, to 7.0.x WRT Safari stability, particularly on iPhones. (The differnece on iPads, both 32 and 64-bit ones, was smaller, but still welcome.)

The keyboard don't is really bold. I kind of liked the old one better but I can see why they changed it for visibility issues.

Most of what I'm seeing are animations being shortened. Interestingly, if you use the pinch gesture to close an app, the old swooping animation (at it's 7.0 speed) is shown separate from the closing of the app itself, whereas in 7.0 the swopping animation was shown with the closing; combined with the faster animations in the rest of the update makes this glaringly noticeable.

Overall, initial impressions are that the OS isn't faster itself, but it just is quicker getting to places that you are asking it to go.

Unimpressed though I'm appreciative of the bug fixes. Installed on an iPad Air, 2 Mini Retinas, 5S and 5C without a hitch.

Issues I see:
- Anyone notice that when you swipe up for multitasking the active window is now a 1/2 thumbnail on the left instead of full thumbnail in the middle like w/iOS 6 & 7?
- No cellular data toggle in control center for iPad still. I only use cellular when wifi is unavailable.
- No ability to disable parallax home screen but keep animations?
- No dark keyboard which was a very nice option.
- Who not implement a slider to speed up/slow down animations?

Guys, I am currently running iOS 7.0.5. When I connect to iTunes, it says that an update is available: iOS 7.0.6.

Do I have to update to iOS 7.0.6 before I am prompted that iOS 7.1 is available to download?

I'm assuming 7.1 has already been released in the UK.

Thanks!

"7.1 with CarPlay"

*Available on select new cars in 2014

lol is it really a headlining feature when most users can't even use it?

I like the quicker app opening animations, and the small button refinement to Siri makes it much better to use. Implemented perfectly. Its a little awkward asking Siri a question and just waiting for it to stop listening to you, especially if there's some ambient noise affecting the microphone, but just holding the button down until as soon as I'm done is snappy as hell. So simple. I'll actually be using Siri much more now.
