Jony Ive never did art in school..

The icons look like they've been designed by a 5 year old!!

The overall feel is so childish. Gradient of colors used. Everything so simple n kept transparent. Jony simply lacks creativity. He can't design. He sucks at it.

Bring back Scott forstall.

I'll say this, the new iPhoto looks nice, but it's an absolute teetotal trainwreck of lag and seems to fight against me more than...you know...do what I want it to do.

Want to email myself a picture? All I have to do is hit the menu button...

...wait (literally) 6 to 10 seconds for it to pop up...

...and there it goes. Now I can press the

Want to set a wallpaper? I might as well just start punching myself in the face now. It's more productive, and won't lag everything outfor 15 seconds.

I'm have such mixed feelings about this "upgrade". The UI does have it's nice moments, but I feel like it's hobbled my iPad. Everything seems to have a half second lag that wasn't there before. Nothing feels as immediate as it did in iOS6.

And the multitasker. The UI itself is one of the things I like best about the upgrades. It's simple and elegant in a way the old setup never was. What I don't like is doing the 4 finger swipe up...

...waiting 4 seconds...

...then having it appear on my screen. One thing I could say about the old one, it worked right when you wanted it to. The animation was timed so well with the gesture, it looked like you were pushing up the screen. This? At least as far as response time goes, it doesn't compare.

Overall, I am not impressed. It looks great in places (even if the new settings icon looks kinda sinister), but the lag, and the jitter, and the overall not-smooth-at-alls blunts any good first impressions I might've had.
how Apple have fallen! on my iPad 4, lots of stutters...Hell...forget stutters...I can see the re-drawing of the screen sometimes when I open settings!!!! Like an old windows laptop drawing screens when it is thrashed! And yes...I did not update...I actually did a clean install! And somehow...they managed to remove the 'maturity' in the UI...the whole UI is 'unapologetically toyish'

This update makes me sad. This is a major step away from the Apple that innovated and led the way. The design is so....um.....Microsoftish. I really can't believe the amount wrong decisions that had to happen for this UI to be released.

I'm sad. I had hoped that Apple would forge ahead without Steve but this seems that they did a U-turn and followed others. I hope they don't continue done the boardroom/committee design path.

I hope handwriting recognition works, because it's on the wall.

+100

It's pretty clear from iOS 7 and the recent iPhone launch that Apple has nowhere to go but down. I am an Apple stockholder, so I want nothing more than for Apple to keep succeeding. I wanted to like iOS 7, but I cannot in good conscience keep silent while Apple kills itself. For every post liking the UI there are five others voicing their dislike and disappointment.

This is the biggest mess Apple has had in years, and this one is all on Tim Cook.

I'm still waiting for mine to download. It decided it needed to restart the download after several error messages. Another 2 hour download...

This thread proves one thing. About half the population REALLY hates change, any change. If something changes they WILL find something to dislike, even if it's a stretch. The older I get the more I realize that this is the case with everything.

What if the change is not for the better, then is it okay to dislike change?

Well, 2am release time in Japan!!! Tried to update when I woke up, but having the server connection error.

Gonna wait a while before updating.

That isn't strictly the case here. Can't people express displeasure with loosing 7 apps per folder, having a white-washed retina-burning white display, not being able to tell what's a button, only being able to see 3.5 artists at a time rather than 8 in music, etc...?

The point is Apple gives very little in terms of options, and if they want a 1-size-fits-all solution, it should be a little more catering to peoples' needs with their devices rather than Ive's romantic design endeavors.

There's a reason we don't all wear runway model clothing in the real world!

Anyway of changing the folder colour or is it perma transparent?

Also, I thought the home screens were supposed to have a perspective change when you moved the phone about? Mine is static.

I'd like to know this as well.... My folders look like crap

People do like what they like. I'm all for that. I'm saying MOST men wont like this color scheme. Not ALL men MOST men. Just because you might not fit in the category of MOST men doesn't mean you should feel insulted. On the contrary, you should take it as a compliment. This is just a statistic.

You keep claiming that 'science' is on your side. How about a link to some of that science?

I don't think it looks toyish at all. It's following the modern trend in UI designs, and does a decent enough job of it. It's clean, somewhat nice looking (though too bright, I wish they had a black background option), and easy to navigate. As far as Apple's standards go, it's merely alright. But it's not terrible.

What I'm about to say makes me glad there's no longer a downvote option, but...

...I think MS is better at flat design. Not trolling at all. That's just what I think. Compare IE to the new Safari for an example. Maybe it's because MS uses a lot more black in their UI designs, but it just looks better to me. It's cleaner and more practiced.

Really, my only problem with 7 is that it performs so freaking badly in places. One second it's as smooth as it should be, the next it's chugging just like you said. I hope it's something they can fix within a reasonable amount of time, because I don't want to have to wait til iOS8 to get my performance back 100%.

edit: holy crap, it just let me put the damn newsstand in a folder. I take everything back. This is the greatest update ever!

Thanks mate.

I got it to update my iPhone at last. I think I'm like everyone else, mixed feelings. For instance I like the icons, but in the camera app I love the HDR button etc but think it's an after thought with the way you select video/ photo/ square and is very fiddly to change.

Also how do you get the weather to show on the notification centre? And it's buggy with the multi task screen, if you hold the phone in landscape in the camera app then back to portrait, go to the multi task screen and the app icons are stuck in landscape and vice versa, small but a noticeable bug.

Make sure the weather app has access to location services. That's all it took for it to show up for me.

This is virtually useless. Seems like the speed is like all of a sudden I have a 80386 90's processor in my iPad.

Can't do anything. Lag, freezes!

DO NOT install on iPad 2 until they release an update!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I would go as far as saying it was "useless" on an iPad 2. It is, however, noticeably slower when opening applications for the first time. it does seem a bit faster after that though.

And yes Ive, stay the hell away from the Mac. You have done enough for iOS!

from a guy who is no longer an iPhone user but still a Macbook Pro user :)
