Do you personally know everyone that installed the update? Because your statement is just ridiculous. Apple said than less than 40.000 units were affected.

No it isn't. The OTA killed the radios on the 6/6+. I don't need to know everyone personally. If you installed the full image you didn't have a problem. But yes, everyone who did the OTA on the new iPhones lost cellular connectivity. There was no way to not lose it.

Btw, it has been reported that most believe touch id stopped working because of a security feature that detected something was wrong with the radios. So I think it was just a casualty of the radios failing and nothing specifically with the update.

Add me to the update list.

iPhone 6. Updated to 8.0.2 and everything works fine. Safari feel snappier also.

You definitely can, because perfection is out of this world, and there are thousands of variables involved in this field, so releasing a software update is DANGEROUS, it doesn't matter how deeply you tested it. You just can't test all the possibilities ...
Everyone with a little knowledge know that, but haters gonna hate nevertheless ...

Normally I would agree with you but not in this case. This was not some rare case that only affected a certain carrier or users with certain settings. What they missed was the OTA killed all cellular connectivity to every iPhone 6/6+ variation. That is something that would of been caught but an intern after about 30 seconds. There is no way they tested the OTA at all on the newer phones before they pushed it out.

I dont know why ipad air or ipad mini users are saying its completely smooth. But for me, ipad mini retina, its definitely still laggy on 8.0.2. Closing apps stutters (yea, its a split second but annoying as it keeps doing it), opening app switcher stutters, etc after extended use. It was COMPLETELY smooth on 7.1.2, but it's definitely not in 8.0.2. Its making me mad that people havent used the updated software for extended period of time and report, giving false informaation.

I am in Australia, I have no issues on the touch ID or the connectivity. But apps are still crashing. I have an iPhone 5s

Password entry dialogue on iPad when in Landscape mode

I have an issue (even though it's a small one) that is still present on iOS8.0.2 and I haven't come across it here yet. If you have to enter a password when your iPad is in landscape mode, for example to join a WiFi network or to complete a (in-app) purchase, you will find that you can actually only see half of the dialogue box in which you are to type your password. Furthermore, the keyboard and the dialogue box will pop up in portrait, even though your iPad is in landscape. In iOS7, all was fine. In iOS8 thru 8.0.2, this issue pops up.

The easiest way to reproduce is to open up ANY app that supports or forces landscape mode, then perform any in-app purchase from within that app when the app is in landscape mode. Note that if you do norm want to push on with the purchase, you'll HAVE to force-exit the app, because the buttons on the dialogue box (the part that you can see) are unresponsive, and pressing Return on the keyboard will make the iPad assume you did enter a password.

Apart from this particular issue, no other issues here on either the iPhone 4S or the iPad (3rd Gen)

I did the install from itunes with the phone connected. The OS 8.0.2 update works as expected. No issues here.

Let's see Google put out an update to a flaw in 24 hours.

They do it all the time since they decoupled most of their apps from the OS. They do with with Chrome pretty much every month to fix security issues. They've certain pushed quick fixes to Nexus devices but afaik they have never killed cellular connections so they've never needed to push one out this fast. Btw, this wasn't a case where there was a flaw in their actual update (if you downloaded the full image you didn't have a problem). The flaw was in the OTA patching process. So the fix was likely not that complicated.

Actually, Google's release method that Apple likes to pick on helps them release more stable software. Google releases an Android build, it then goes to the individual manufacturers, who I'm sure test and retest as they then port their skin over, and then finally it again hits the carriers who release them individually. There's inherently more testing opportunities.

I need this!!

I got my iPhone 6+ yesterday . Did the iCloud restore but the ringtones did not come across !!! I need this to work but i'm afraid of all the screw ups!!

Went from iOS 8.0 to 8.0.2. Phone says it has a signal but applications, email, texts, internet, is not working on cellular service. In addition to not being able to sync music, I now have this problem. WiFi is working however.

iPhone 6 (128GB)

iCloud Photo Library

Does anyone else now have iCloud Photo Library (Beta) as an option under Photos and Camera in 8.0.2?

I backed up with iTunes and successfully did OTA (wi-fi) updates on a 6+ (AT&T) and a wi-fi only iPad 3. Everything seems to be working fine. Went from 8.0 to 8.0.2 on both.

*** edit: nevermind, it finally "found" 8.0.2 ***

I had gotten partway into download 8.0.1 when it came out (it downloaded, but at the point of "verifying" it stopped and said I was no longer connected to the internet). I assumed what that meant was that they'd pulled the update before I actually ran it.

BUT, now I only get 8.0.1 under software update on my phone. Just tried rebooting it and that didnt' help. I guess I have to restore or update through iTunes?

How the ****?
iTunes gets the full install file instead of just the delta update. Been that way for a long tome.

I think the point is, %#&! happens sometimes, on every platform, with every category of purchase, at every price point.

Are you trying to advocate some kind of compensation is required? Do you think the 40,000 affected users should all file an international class action lawsuit? On what basis of damages?

I really don't get what you want or expect? You got a fix in one day, and you got detailed instructions on how to fix the issue temporarily so you could use your phone within a couple of hours. You also got an apology directly from the company.

Should really be end of story, right?

PS - Update working fine in Sweden on 2 iPad 2's, 1 iPad rMini, 1 iPad Air, 1 iPhone 5, and 1 iPhone 4S. No problems, iPad 2's noticeably smoother.

Yes they did no question. But they provided a work around within hours and worked around the clock to provide a new update/fix. What else can they possibly do? Crap happens not only to Apple but most companies out there. All they can do is address it as quickly as possible and they did. I can see the replies coming fanboy, apple defender, blah blah blah none of which is true. I am in IT and I know that things happen. All anyone can do is resolve it as quickly as possible. Even Apple is not perfect.
The workaround didn't really apply to those who are without a computer. And given how much Apple has stressed the whole PC-free thing it's not hard to imagine that there would be people in that situation. I'm not completely sure what would have been better for people in that situation, but Apple didn't really address their issue until later when they fixed the issue without providing a viable workaround to those people in the meantime.

I would like to update like many afraid to. I left my 6 on 8.0 and some small bugs but its good. I would like to see reachability better but I just setup touch id last night and I love it, don't want to lose it. I think I will backup in iTunes again and then do it like that. Apple and OTA updates are looking hit and miss.

5S / 64 GB / AT&T (but factory unlocked)

8.0.2 downloaded and installed in under 25 minutes via OTA and everything I've tried has worked.

Text entry keyboard really flies as do the iMessages I've sent. Battery live really seems much better. still in the high 90s after 3+ hours.

Happy I didn't get the 8.0.1 update.
