Except thats not the reason for it needing 20x the space - the package is not 1.5 GB compressed to 72 MB.
I have a feeling it uses the space to create some form of safeguard of your previous installation if the update goes wrong. Not sure though.
I did the OTA update and it broke my cellular connection and touchID.
Restored through iTunes (using the 8.0.2 IPWS) It's working fine now.
iPhone 6 Plus 128GB (AT&T)
Yep, I've got a UK iPhone 6 Plus and it's all working fine after the 8.0.2 update (really pleased with the phone after the jump from iPhone 5). I'm on Three if it makes any difference? I think I read the problems have mainly been with people on EE.
this update totally sucks it screwed up my phone it has Siri saying I don't understand. Then the the connect to iTunes screen pops up and iPhone must go into recovery mode. I've done this three times and it still saying connect to iTunes
Can say frustrated!!!!!!@

I'm still on 8.0 and scared to update any further; not trusting it.

Nothing to worry about.. I did OTA update on Iphone 6 and it works completely fine.
Absolutely. A lot of people rely on their cell phone as their only phone, and a lack of phone service means a lack of access to emergency services. Apple really screwed-up big time. The quick response with iOS 8.0.2 only partially mitigates this fact.
And also Health data.
I've been working with Apple since Monday on this,
HEALTH DATA IS NOT CURRENTLY STORED ON ICLOUD, IF YOU RESTORE BACK FROM THAT YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR HEALTH DATA.
Working with a senior iOS engineer, waiting on a update from their team on this matter.
