Can you use Airplay to send video and music to the Fire TV from your iOS devices?

YES is exactly the same way as ATV via a 59p ($99c) app that runs in the background so AirPlay is 100% the same. That was the deal breaker for me.

Except stream/mirror from iPhone/iPad/Mac. I rely on that daily.

The way the article and the official update description is worded makes it seem like it's an update intended to fix issues only with the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

Thanks.

Well closer read "This release includes bug fixes, increased stability........................ AND performance improvements for iPad 2 and iPhone 4s."

I see how it potentially could be misread though :)

Apple doesn't very often bring out new features in the ".x" releases, do they? They seemed to make an exception with iOS 8, enabling Apple Play with 8.1, but i can't see features like split-screen multitasking coming out in this release. They would usually hold back a significant feature like that for the next major release.

I hope they fix things like synchronizing keyboard shortcuts and user dictionaries, because that stuff is still broken.

After two weeks of testing, Apple has released iOS 8.1.1, a minor update that includes several bug fixes. Apple first seeded the iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers on November 3.

iOS 8.1.1 is available immediately as an over-the-air download. Apple has also released new Apple TV software and an update to OS X Yosemite, OS X 10.10.1.

According to Apple's release notes, iOS 8.1.1 includes bug fixes and increased stability and performance improvements for both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4s, two of the older devices that support the operating system.

iOS 8.1.1 may offer several bug fixes, but as a minor update, it does not bundle in any of the major new features that are rumored for iOS 8, like improvements to Maps and split-screen multitasking for the iPad. These updates may come in iOS 8.2 or iOS 8.3, both of which Apple is rumored to be working on.

its about time:mad:

Honestly buddy it’s not. Fire does everything ATV does and 5 times faster + it has an app store. I’m yet to find anything ATV does that Fire TV can't.

And you’re talking to an “Apple” person here not an Apple troll.

I'm guessing it doesn't stream purchased TV shows and Movies from the iTunes store? That's what 95% of my ATV usage is and why I keep hold of them alongside my Chromecasts

Upon reading some forums comments, I have updated my iPhone 6+ ios 8.1.1. Definitely the rotation is faster and more responsive. I wouldn't say it's perfect. Ios6 definitely had the buttery smooth perfect rotation that I miss. Also, it is not smooth in spotlight search as some people said. Also upon wake up it doesn't seem to find the right rotation.
Apple please make it better! Don't stop here!

:O The capacity on my iPad Air (1) went from 113.8 to 114.27 GB (not the stuff that I have on it, but the amount of space available for my stuff)! A new iOS version takes up LESS space!? That's new. iOS has been steadily eating up space for itself for years. Nice.

Haha same here I gained like 400-500mb on my iPad and iPhone. I don't think the overall capacity increase like you said, mine is still 12gb on a 16gb iPhone which I think is the same as before. The update may have cleared some music and video cache. Not sure where the extra space is coming from but its sweet :D

Android: The openness you want immediately at the cost of being Android (stability, security, etc)

Jailbreaking: Wait for the jailbreak to come out, then get the openness you want along with a fantastic and secure mobile OS.

What about all the studies that came out saying iOS and iOS apps crash more than Android and Android apps?

https://www.google.com/search?q=ios...7.3543j0j7&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

Certainly doesn't seem like iOS is more stable. You may think it is because iOS doesn't actually tell you when things crash. They'll crash silently in the background without the user seeing any error messages.

Ever been using an app and suddenly you're back at Springboard? That's a crash.

Damn it. The weather app still lags when you switch between list view and detailed view to pick another city.

um why not just flip right or left while on details screen to get to the next city? I mean if the list to details is driving you that batty. Or unless you have 14-11 citys in there I suppose that could be a little hard. Just throwing it out there.

iOS Game Controllers Work Again

iOS bluetooth game controllers once again work under iOS 8.1.1! My Moga Rebel has excellent latency to my iPad Air.

So are all you iPad 2 users experiencing better performance with this latest update? Safari is SERIOUSLY stuttery(especially the keyboard lag - drives me insane:mad:) on 8.1, does 8.1.1 fix this ?!

I was really hoping that this update would fix a Siri issue I'm having on my iPhone 6. But it didn't. Siri and dictation do not hear anything I say at all. It works fine when I am using my ear pods w/mic. Speakerphone seems to work fine for phone calls. I don't get it. Anyone else having this problem?

My wife has had this and we thought it was a voiceover thing.but one thing that has worked is not to use airplay streaming. if she uses bluetooth to her speakers it does not do it. but if she uses airplay it does.

fire tv and fire phone, just a couple of fleeting moments. I would rather stick with something that will be around and have some support. but if it works for you, great.

I hesitated to download it right away. You took my trust away Apple, after 8.0.1. :p

It's more important than ever to simply wait and watch as others gamble by installing any Apple authored so called "upgrade". Apple is seemingly preoccupied, distracted, or otherwise prone to mistakes, errors and the like, the risk is too great for my comfort zone.

I rely on my iP6+ therefore downtime is out of the question. I'm currently running the original OS which has been excellent. Upgrading to have the latest would be completely foolish.

I chose to operate in the "I'll believe it when I see it" mode with Apple. A practice that serves me better than anything they hype. Choosing to not trust Apple pays off handsomely and saves nasty surprises.

Well this is odd, I updated to 8.1.1 and now my credit card is no longer showing in Passbook or associated with :apple: Pay.

Could it be that any OS update removes sensitive credit card data? I don't know, just wondering if this might be a security feature.

Does it work after re-entering your credit cards? Note that it's very easy to enter CC data by using the camera.

Speaking of Apple Pay ... it's very nice. I like the security features, and the instant notification of transactions (even when not using NFC) is great.
