... Plus the stability and performance upgrades that might be there mainly to help older hardware would likely translate to having some stability and performance improvements for newer hardware too.

But you can't take that for granted. Every device has it's own iOS file.

Which ones are those?

For example Twitter and PayPal are still not working at all with notifications on my 6. Twitter also has the glitch with the badge icon option not showing in notification setting and its so annoying. Think this might be an app issue tho and not ios, but it's still weird since other apps that haven't been updated work fine.

Anyone got Twitter notifications working on a iPhone 6?

If a notification comes through on my phone (such as for an E-mail), if I open up my E-mail to read the message, or even click on the individual notification, the notification does not auto clear from Notification Center after I read the message. Same thing with SMS & iMessages. Another issue is with the App Store. I'll receive a Badge icon stating I have "x" # of updates. If I use iTunes to update the Apps (which I almost always do) the apps will update and will update on my phone once I'm Synched it, but the "x" # of updates still appear in the App Store under "Available Updates", along with the Badge icon stating I still have "x" # of updates. Instead of the App showing "Update" next to it, it will just say "Open".

So apple is now doing something about their engineered obsolescence about making older devices slower??

Why didn't they address the issue when people upgraded their 3gs's to ios 4 which made their phones super slow? Or what about iphone 4 users who upgraded to ios 6 and 7 and now have a useless paper weight?

What a joke. Ios 6 is what pissed me off enough to switch to android.

Enjoy!

Didn't know that my 5s was already obsolete. Ever since iOS 8.0.2, I've not noticed any performance or stability difference with iOS 7.1.2. Not a single reset since updating to iOS 8 either.

Oh wah.

Newer software trying to be faster and do more by utilizing newer hardware's faster specs. This, thereby, makes said software run slower on older hardware.

I'm still using a 1st gen iPad 2, which I bought in April of 2011, and I don't go around pissing and moaning b/c my 4-year-old device runs more slowly using software designed for new machines in 2014. I either download it and deal with it or don't download it at all.

I've never had to wait for an update to take so long. It is estimated 4 hours to download the update for my 4S. On school wifi too so it should be instant. Must be lots of people updating, every time I retry the download time gets worse.

Yep, that's why I have an iPad 3 running 6.1.3, and my daughter's iPad mini still runs 7.1.2. They both run fine, and it just seems that iOS 8 puts an inordinately heavy burden on A5-powered devices.

It's generally safe going one iOS generation beyond the launch version, and after that it becomes weighing the tradeoffs between performance and stability versus the new features, security patches, and app compatibility. iOS 8.1 runs great on my 5s, and I've installed every iOS 8 update on the first day so far. When iOS 9 rolls around, I'll probably take a more cautious approach on when/if I install that update.

So are all you iPad 2 users experiencing better performance with this latest update? Safari is SERIOUSLY stuttery(especially the keyboard lag - drives me insane:mad:) on 8.1, does 8.1.1 fix this ?!

I didn't notice safari stuttering on my iPad 2.

However the infamous wifi lag is gone.

Enjoy!

For my 5S I've noticed severe battery drain issues since 8.0.2! Goes down a few percent in a couple of minutes! :(

I really hope this fixes the iCloud keychain. Damn thing constantly turns off on my iPhone. Under iOS 7 it was a syncing wonder. Under 8 it's been useless.

YES is exactly the same way as ATV via a 59p ($99c) app that runs in the background so AirPlay is 100% the same. That was the deal breaker for me.

Can you let me know the name of this app or private message me it please? And can you tell me if it can be downloaded easily directly from Amazon? Thank you.

Not taking those for granted, but just saying there's a good possibility that some sort of stability and performance improvements were made all around, just more pronounced/noticeable on older hardware.. The bug and security fixes alone usually make it worthwhile unless there's some specific reason that someone might have that truly outweighs it all.

I have an iPhone 6 and Twitter's Push Notifications are working fine. But I have also problems with the Badge Icon.. in some rare cases it shows the badge icon, pretty sure it's app related.

I think the same way. However, apple used not to be like this. Apple gave flawless support to even 5 year old macs.
And that was the value people have seen and switched to Apple. I still believe the value is still there (because I just got iPhone 6+ for $1200 with apple care) but i think the shield is wearing off rather quickly and it seems like there is no clear advantage from getting iPhone over Android anymore.
I still think the ios app base is far superior to android. But the quality of software, hardware and updates going downhill now make me think twice before buying Apple product.

The thing is I thought twice about buying Apple, 15 times about buying BB and 20 times about buying android.

Seems like they are improving the iOS version that is the most current to be as best as it can be. Why would they go back to a version from years back that no one really supports anymore anyway to do that? They should have done it back then, but didn't, for whatever reason. The fact that they are doing it now for their current versions seems like a good thing (they did that with iOS 7 and now with iOS 8).

Those are some odd ones. Certainly doesn't really seem like some big widespread issue though, but a weird one nonetheless.
