Didn't know that my 5s was already obsolete. Ever since iOS 8.0.2, I've not noticed any performance or stability difference with iOS 7.1.2. Not a single reset since updating to iOS 8 either.

Try switching between different cities in the weather app by expanding/collapsing. Lagfest 101. There's animation lag there that exists on all devices on iOS 8.

Keystrokes are slower in Spotlight and tapping the upper part of the screen to automatically scroll in app store was 60 fps smooth in iOS 7 for the 5S, not so much in iOS 8.

Is it just me , or is scrolling overall just a bit more consistent and smooth in apps/everything? On a 6 Plus on 8.1.1, i am not kidding , not sure if its placebo or me lmao

does the native dictionary work for you guys? I can't 'define' any words. Had this in the 8.1.1 beta but this has never happened to me in the official release.

thanx. :)

um why not just flip right or left while on details screen to get to the next city? I mean if the list to details is driving you that batty. Or unless you have 14-11 citys in there I suppose that could be a little hard. Just throwing it out there.

Because that doesn't solve the initial issue of bad coding. I have 4 cities, and it lags. It's a well known issue and iOS 8 does have performance quirks.

It downloaded & installed on my iPod Touch [2012] in about 5 minutes.

Seems overally smoother, hoping the same for my iPad Mini [2012].
It downloaded fine [good to see Apple's servers not get slammed
on an update day] but it won't install because it says the battery must be at 50%+:
mine was at 46%. Bummer. lol

I have 2 cities in my Weather app, and switching between them is buttery smooth actually besides a tiny teeny dip in frame drop for a split second, far from a "lagfest" Im on a 6 Plus on iOS 8.1.1

iPad 3, iPad Air (1), iPad Air 2: All okay with iOS 8.1.1. Duration: 10–60 min. Short test with cellular, wifi, safari, email, some music apps (thumbjam with audiobus and garageband/cubasis) and demanding games (asphalt 8). No differences to before the update.

Those are some odd ones. Certainly doesn't really seem like some big widespread issue though, but a weird one nonetheless.

I wonder if anyone else is having these issues? I've always thought it had to do with a bug in the software and/or firmware. Maybe it is just something to do with my phone itself. It is the original iPhone 5, after all

So apple is now doing something about their engineered obsolescence about making older devices slower??

Why didn't they address the issue when people upgraded their 3gs's to ios 4 which made their phones super slow? Or what about iphone 4 users who upgraded to ios 6 and 7 and now have a useless paper weight?

What a joke. Ios 6 is what pissed me off enough to switch to android.

So in an effort to avoid an inevitable phenomena, you moved to a place where said phenomena occurs at a higher frequency?

Lagfest on my 5S. What's funny though is that actually tapping it quickly seems to reduce the lag, but waiting 1-2 seconds results in serious amount of frames dropping.

Just tested it on the other 5S, it's still there. :/

I really do hope they get this together and will release performance improvements for the 5, 5S and 6.

OK OK settle down. Just offering a solution. I also have 4 cities and a easy flip to the right to switch between them is smooth as silk and actually easier than the list/detail switch back and forth, for me at least. Sorry Apple didn't make the list/detail switch as smooth as you would like though.

I have 9 cities in my weather app, and the animation is buttery smooth switching between cities in full view and also between list view. I tried recreating lag in the program by running music in the background and geofencing applications, but nothing is causing dropped framerates for me.

I do have background app usage turned off for most of the apps. I'm also currently running 8.1 (12B411) on my Verizon 128 GB iPhone 6 Space Gray if that helps at all.

I'll be updating to 8.1.1 shortly as I really hope it fixes Safari's seemingly random but constantly spinning wheel and problems with displaying bookmarks in landscape mode.

I was really hoping that this update would fix a Siri issue I'm having on my iPhone 6. But it didn't. Siri and dictation do not hear anything I say at all. It works fine when I am using my ear pods w/mic. Speakerphone seems to work fine for phone calls. I don't get it. Anyone else having this problem?

dammit im currently updating my 6+ was hoping it would fix my siri issue as well.....how is this siri issue not a bigger deal? There is a big thread on the apple support website about it.

I'm calm and wrote nothing that would insinuate me being mad. Simply pointed out the issue.

That is strange. We shouldn't really be experiencing any differences seeing as we have the same hardware and software. Third-party apps should have no effect seeing how "sand-boxed" they are.

Just downloaded and installed ios 8.1.1 on my ipad 2. The ipad is booting faster. Performance has also improved. My advice to everyone-whenever you install a new new update let it settle down for a few hours, let the ipad/iphone adapt to it and you will see the real difference.

updated my ipad 4 and must say it's running a noticeably faster. But the real test is in a few days when things become bogged down (i reckon the update cleared the cache)

I'll leave the ipod/iphone on 7.1.2 though

a constant 0-2% drop overnight on the phone is amazing. And i come home with 85% most times

So far, so good. The iPad 2 is working better with 8.1.1, and the 6 Plus is also working fine. Safari is very responsive, with tabs maintaining their integrity upon returning - portrait and landscape. More to come...
