Good luck using it at stores that have not signed up or opted in. Thats why stores have REFUSED it you

I just used it to buy a Mountain Dew out of vending machine right outside of my work. I guess that proves your theory wrong. What else do you have?

Just tried it:

Held my iPhone up to the NFC reader on the vending machine and my screen automatically turned on and asked me to authenticate with Apple Pay. I tried the Citi card twice, and it was declined (yes, I have enough available credit for a $1.60 purchase so not sure why) so maybe they're still working out the bugs. I added a Chase card and it worked.

It's pretty neat, but to be quite honest, I'm not sure if it's any faster than swiping a card.

And to clarify things: THIS WAS A REGULAR NFC-ACCEPTING SODA MACHINE. No special requirement for the merchant to support ApplePay.

Legitimately wonder if it was an Apple Pay bug or if Citi freaked out a bit on their end.

Why isn't camera roll the default view when i open up the camera app and click the recent image preview in the lower left corner like it used to be !!

Makes having camera roll back useless. So many click to get to camera roll view.

Ahhh..... Welcome back Camera Roll. Happy camper.

No NFC available vending machines to try that here!

This is gonna take ages.....

Finally can choose between 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE!

It's a nice feature to have especially in fringe networks where the 3G or 4G LTE reception is lower than 2G and the phone likes to drop to the much slower network.

This just meants that the store isn't accepting NFC payments at all. Costco, for example, has NO nfc terminals. Best Buy has NFC turned OFF on all of their terminals. They are not accepting contactless payments.

This has nothing to do with opting in or out of Apple Pay.

In other words, you either accept NFC or you don't. You can't choose to accept NFC (Google wallet, ISIS), but choose to not accept Apple Pay. All or nothing.

What is wrong with these people?? So insistent.

That is my point. Your trying to differentiate NFC to people that have no idea what NFC is when your dealing with consumers. They will view it as apple pay doesn't work here. They have no idea what NFC is. There fore thats why stores like best buy and walmart have gone out of their way to say THEY DONT SUPPORT APPLE PAY. not NFC because no one knows/cares wtf that is the general consumer already knows what apple pay is.

Well, I know there are rumors of an iOS jailbreak being worked on, but odds are it won't happen with 8.1 - I expect there will be at least one or two point releases between now and then.

But if the jailbreak comes sooner than expected, I can always backup and then restore via iTunes before jailbreaking. :D

I don't need a jailbreak as MovieBox works with iOS 8.

The progress bar has made it to the last "e" in "improvements" in about 15 minutes on my 5s. Still a ways to go though.

Now on the second reboot with the second Apple logo and the progress bar. That took a long time to start moving (several minutes).

I thought I had read somewhere that as long as it has an NFC reader, you can use your phone weather or not they "participate" with Apple. I think it has more to do with your bank opting in. I don't think my credit union has so I'm using a CO card specifically for it.

Yes, it is where you payment comes from that's the key. If whatever you use for payment collaborates and you got NFC, you are in. The merchant doesn't care how you pay them as long as they get paid :).
