I have updated my iPhone 6 Plus to 8.1 today and have Yosemite on my 2014 rMBP 15.4". I can connect my iPad to the rMBP but still have problems with the iPhone 6 connecting. Any suggestions?

power off and then power on everything.

sign out of icloud on everything

power off and then power on everything

sign into icloud on everything

the above concept works 90% of the time on 90% of every computing thingamajig on earth

the other 9% of the time you need to clean the connections

the remaining 1% of the time is actual issue

iMessage works, but previous messages on my Phone don't appear. But all messages after I set it up appear fine.

Anyone want to explain Apple Pay to my mom?

Instead of using your plastic credit card, Apple pay takes all the numbers and expiry date information and your name on the card and keeps it private, encoded on your iPhone.

Now instead of giving your name and credit card information to a waiter or a checkout clerk, you can magically use your iPhone to wirelessly send that information to the merchant. All this without having to put your credit card and your personal name at risk. Why should the waiter know your full name and credit card number right?

Also, eventually in a few years, you might not even need to carry around all those plastic cards - they will work better if they are digital.

Also those (evil) companies that like to track our shopping activity won't be demographically pegging us when we buy "Depends" or "Marlboro Reds" or etc.

Some companies like Google might not like this so much, so you know it's a good thing - right mom?

OK, so I went to my vending machine and where you put the dollar bills I waved my phone. NOTHING happened. Tried twice. Apple Pay = MAJOR FAIL.

There's one thing for sure, NFC payments have a long way to go when a great many people who actually frequent a tech news site have no idea how it works, let alone the general public.

Sounds good for now but wait until the Coke people find out they have a glitch in the system and try and repo his soda... He better drink up!

for those of you planning to jailbreak remember not to do this OTA

Well, I know there are rumors of an iOS jailbreak being worked on, but odds are it won't happen with 8.1 - I expect there will be at least one or two point releases between now and then.

But if the jailbreak comes sooner than expected, I can always backup and then restore via iTunes before jailbreaking. :D

That wasn't the case for all jailbreaks, just some. OTA updates prevented jailbreaking for SOME tools, not all.

You only have 1.2 GB free on a 128 GB phone? Wow.

WOW! You have a 128GB 6+ and you already down to 1.2GB free? You definitely utilizing the hell out of your device!:apple:

Where was it said he had 128GB of space?

Why isn't camera roll the default view when i open up the camera app and click the recent image preview in the lower left corner like it used to be !!

Makes having camera roll back useless. So many click to get to camera roll view.

They've increased the number of clicks to do just about everything lately. But it all looks really pretty.

Well duh, it's because you have to feed your iphone into the slot like a bill. Why'd you think Jony Ive made the phone so thin?

T-Mobile already has a carrier update from 18.0 to 18.1. Go into About.

well I got it for my iPhone 6+ but it doesn't seem to want to on my iPad (no prompt for a carrier update at all despite T-Mobile listing the iPad Air)

probably explains the problems I'm having getting SMS Relay to work on my iPad

Weird. I got an e-mail from American Express saying they are going to support ApplePay.

cool I haven't gotten email and as of today they don't.

Called them. They are in the "negotiation stage of getting on the ApplePay system" and don't have an ETA

Thanks for the update. I don't really want to switch banks. Plus I won a trip to see a Red Sox game this year with free 2 night stay in Boston from TD so I'd hate to bail on them.

Ok, I solved the SMS relay issue by disabling iMessage on my iPhone, enabling it again, rebooting and then enabling my phone number for iMessage on all of my computers. After that I could enable SMS relay.

Finally can choose between 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE!

It's a nice feature to have especially in fringe networks where the 3G or 4G LTE reception is lower than 2G and the phone likes to drop to the much slower network.

And where does this show up? I can't find it

Try inserting your iPhone into the dollar bill slot. The reader must be somewhere deep in there. It'll fit. Keep trying..

EDIT: Wow, got beat to the joke so quickly already, lol. Good job, guys.

Same issue. Cannot pair the two devices. Brutal.

Let me know if you find a fix.

Tip:

If you have disabled your email address under "You can be reached for messages at:" in iMessage (and are only using your phone number) turn the email back on in your messages settings and try it again.

I encountered the same issue during the beta period. Disabling and enabling Bluetooth on all devices seemed to force a handshake and resolve the issue. A restart may also be required.

Hope that helps.

I've got it to work from iPhone to Mac but I'm still seeing nothing on my iPhone.

Go to Settings in iPhone, Handoff & Suggested Apps and turn off My Apps and App Store and turn them on again.

Since iOS 8 the Maps app from Apple is broken. I tape it, en then it instanlty crash :/ I hoped 8.1 would fix this but sadly I still have the same problem. I have a iPhone 5s.

Does anyone else have the same problem? I can't find anything on Google. How can I fix this? (Besides reinstall iOS 8)
