Fragmentation is already in play. There was a new version of iOS 12 released the other day for phones that aren't eligible to be updated to 13.

Exactly. It is one of those things that Apple conveniently ignores when talking about fragmentation.

No they don’t. They repeatedly cite statistics that only 90% or whatever of phones are on the latest OS. When they distinguish, for developers, the difference between their fragmentation issue and Android’s, they rightfully point out that essentially 100% of iOS devices are on OS versions 2 years old or less, vs. Android’s 5-year equivalent window (or whatever the number is right now).

Some stories for context:

And here’s a page suggesting that >91% are on 12.x or higher: https://david-smith.org/iosversionstats/

Compare to Android, where around 40% are on the last two versions:

One release and 2 updates in less than 2 weeks, sure seems like a poor development record for a major Tech company.

When is the last time a company DIDN'T do this? Windows has generally in the last year crashed computers left and right after updates. Android always rolls out one and then pretty immediately another. It's one thing to test it in a small environment, it's another thing for millions to get it at the same time, on different devices.

Is anyone noticing that their Taptic Engine is behaving weirdly? The deep, flat haptic taps when you 3D Touch on an app in the home screen sometimes produces sharp, metal on glass type clinks. I thought this was a hardware problem (and apparently so did Apple) so I got my iPhone swapped out for a new one. It's still happening with the brand new phone.

My understanding is 3D touch is not supported on IOS 13, even if you have the hardware on your phone. There is now only long touch.

I wouldn't call that fragmentation. That's Apple providing an important security update for iPhones 5, 5S, and 6, which are all 5+ years old or older. Do you think Android is still providing OS updates for phones five years old?

Yeah... they do ignore that. When iOS fragmentation occurs there's a "good" reason for it, but when it's Android fragmentation it is "bad". There are valid reasons for fragmentation, Apple doesn't acknowledge the legitimacy of Android's fragmentation.

The marketing angle of fragmentation is the sole reason for not allowing users to downgrade to a previous version of iOS (even when that previous version is still supported for devices that can't upgrade).

iPad is stuck on the "Update requested" for the past 5 minutes plus... I never touched anything except going to the "Software Update"tab in Settings/General. Have auto update off.

same issue here. What worked for me:

  1. Connect to iTunes
  2. Choose to upgrade to 13.1.1 from iTunes
  3. Enter pincode of device
  4. Let iTunes make backup
  5. Somehow half way the device suddenly went to "preparing update".
This just went on both m iPhone 11 Pro and iPat Pro.

It seems to me Apple has a big bug here somewhere in this update.

Thank goodness i was thinking that my work phone i phone 8 was going to need a battery replaced and wasn't looking forward to asking the boss to fix.

I have noticed my notifications are fixed on messenger with my 8 plus. The last two betas no matter what I did my messages weren’t coming up on lock screen and no vibration when on silent . Might just be coincidental as no one else has been reporting it though🤷‍♂️

Currently at Apple HQ, the iOS team at work....

Would you prefer they not fix serious bugs in iOS 12 so quickly after iOS 13 was released?

My girlfriend and my mother are both using iPhone 6 and are stuck on iOS 12. Neither of them has a pressing need to upgrade yet; the phones got new batteries late last year. Why should they be running vulnerable software?

I love the fact that Apple patched that bug. I hope they continue to do so to keep our iOS 12-running friends secure. Not everyone buys a new phone every 2-3 years.

Apparently you've missed at least 3 thread titles involving CarPlay not connecting in either wired nor wireless connections. It doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone, but it certainly is a problem.
I've gotten this, but I don't know if it's actually a real CarPlay issue. Could be, but I feel like I had it before iOS 13. I could be wrong though. Anyways, when it does I just hold the power button on my VW Passat's stereo for 15 seconds to force a hard reset. I'm not sure what the equivalent is in other cars, but I'd imagine a hard reset will fix it.

You know, I really would not prefer to see political statements on this site. That's not what I'm here for. I'd be fine with ignoring it if it was just a normal-sized signature with a political statement, but the fact that yours takes up so much of the page is seriously annoying and distracting.
Looks like they've been suspended...

“Addresses an issue that could cause Reminders to sync slowly”

Nope. Installed and rebooted an extra time for good measure and my phone still has not synced all of my reminders even though I started yesterday!
