I have to admit, I am a little bit disappointed. :(

It is an amazing device, but I am just not really feeling it. I didn't get that "WOW Factor" for this one.

It would be kind of big to carry around everywhere wouldn't it?(In regards to having 3G Data)

I suspect the WiFi only models will see better sales.

I for one, will most likely wait and see what the next iPhone's updated feature list has, mainly because I love my iPhone and it can only get better!:D

Oh it would be so cool if I could kick back and play WOW on the iPad

That would be a wow factor amirite?

This is exactly what I was expecting, minus a camera. For my purposes, it's too big to be a portable device you can carry in your pocket (that's what the iPhone and iPod Touch are for) and too inconvenient to replace a netbook or laptop because of its lack of a built-in keyboard--the touch keyboard will function but not be as good or fast. Amazon's Kindle has been successful, and the 9.7" Kindle is $489. The iPad certainly offers far more functionality, and isn't too much more money. I have no use for the iPad, but it will be interesting to see how consumers respond. It will probably do well, but I don't expect this to be as hot a seller as the iPhone.

There's unfortunately nothing about this device that makes me feel I would want or need it.
I especially dislike the 4:3 aspect ratio - makes it look outdated even now -, the much-too-wide bezel, the corners that are too round, and the name.

I hope future MacBook Pros will have 3G (4G?) built in as an option (don't like those 3G USB sticks).
I am so waiting for updates to the iPhone, iPhone OS, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, and a new ~32" LED display.

It's absolutely pretty. Apple is great at "pretty." But what would I use it for? I don't see how it makes my life any different or easier. I have a 13" MB Pro. It can do far more than the iPad can ever hope to do, and it's not that much bigger if I want to carry it around. For true portability, I also have an iPhone. So why should I pay an extra monthly fee to AT&T (of all companies) if I want to take my iPad on the road? I just don't understand the market for the iPad. There's no camera, so no photos or video capability. That to me seemed like a no-brainer; what a great conferencing tool it could have been! There's no built-in audio recording capability. It's not a big iPhone; it's a big Touch.

I like the idea of the iBook store, but I should be able to access that on my iPhone or MacBook as well. If iBooks are limited to just the iPad, I predict a colossal fail.

Yeah! I got the same feeling~

I believe most modern websites have a width of 900-1000 pixels nowadays. Apple's iPad in Portrait mode have a width of 1024 pixels. That seems fairly reasonable considering how the whole web browsing / reading is such a big deal for it.

I can't wait to get my hands on one, along with the Apple case they made for it .

I agree, I'm not feeling it either. I can't see myself using the iPad on a daily basis to say the least. I consider this a recreational device that can't store everything to be my one and only device to move around with. Photos, music, and movies -- all of it can't fit on the iPad let alone documents and I'm not going to treat it like my syncing iPod nano. Well, I'll just leave it at that. The iPad is still just out of the gates and hopefully it'll be more convincing enough to use it.

I'll be looking forward to a new MacBook Pro and the next iPhone. I'd rather bring my MacBook Pro everywhere I go that can do and store more than to save whatever space I have left with the iPad.

Perfect for around the house

The more I think about it this device will be ideal for around the house with the family.

I suspect you need to interact with one in person to get that "wow" factor feeling. That's been my experience with both the original iPod and iPhone.

The iPad will be immensely popular.

iPad?!??! REALLY APPLE/STEVE!!!???!?!?

Why isn't EVERYBODY up in arms over this thing having no Camera or FLASH (web flash)?

Really Apple? Oooooh, let me line up to get this only so next year model will feature the camera & have to buy another one. No flash? C'mon. what kind of web browsing experience is this? Better than a laptop my ass.

Really cool concept but overall it's just a oversized iTouch... oh wait, the touch does have a camera. NVM.

It's just a oversized... uh, thing.

everybody "FAIL" on three...
one..two..three..

FAIL!!!!!!

(Not an apple hater, have a 32GB 3Gs, 27" iMac & numerous iPods)

So, the iPad. It is, as many of you said, an oversized iPod touch. But I'd rethink the "completely useless" part. Are you sure about that?

Before we get into it, let me ask one thing of you. When you switch on your computer, what exactly are you doing most of the time? For me, it's the Internet. Chrome OS was designed to get you on the Internet as soon as possible, but they went a bit overboard (since your computer dies when there's no Internet connection).

Now consider the iPad. You hit the lock button, and it's on. You push Safari, and you're on the Internet. That's even faster than booting a Chrome OS Netbook which takes 7 seconds. If you look at the video, although the navigation and everything is exactly like the iPhone, putting it on a 9.7" display really makes the experience completely different and totally natural. As they put it: "Like reading a newspaper, or a magazine."

There are no new technology involved with the iPad, but again, Multi-touch on a display of this size is the innovation itself. Have a look at the new Mail app. The new Photo app. The iBooks app. If you've seen the Keynote, the absolutely amazing iWork suite, iTunes and Brushes.

I'm not exaggerating it when I say this. Multi-touch is a revolutionary UI. And now Apple has brought it to a full-sized display. When the iPhone first came out, who can imagine all these amazing things it can do today? This is only the beginning. Within half a year, we will see iPad do things that we can't even imagine today. Even as of now, the iPad can already do most of what I ask from my computer. Surfing the web, listening to music, checking my E-Mail, using the Calendar. Just because I own a phone and a computer doesn't mean that there's no room for this. There is a niche.

Now, what's to prevent me from buying this upon release? Only one thing - lack of multitask. Now, this thing sports a 1Ghz processor and it's running quite a basic OS. There is almost no reason hardware-wise why this thing can't do it. It's all to do with the software, which I have confidence that Apple will add in the days to come. After all, iPhone OS 4.0 has yet to land.

So, in conclusion: Multitask will land in the upcoming months, and by then the iPad will be doing amazing things that none of us can imagine with awesome new apps taking advantage of the 9.7" Multi-touch surface. Then I'll buy one instantly.

I really wouldn't use the camera much (a bit on the large size for that), and I rarely use the front facing camera on my Macbook Pro or iMac. As for Flash... whatever. --Just my take on it. I think as a media device the iPad will rock!

yeah, that case looks pretty d@mn cool.

Completely agree.

This platform offers instantaneous access to the internet, e-mail, books, photos, video, music, apps etc., all with the single touch of an icon, and without the hassle and baggage of a bulky machine, overheating processor, bloated OS, and menus driven by mouse/curser input.

Having Multi-touch implemented on a full-sized, high res display is, in-and-of-itself, a deal maker for many - I already know several iPhone and iPod Touch users who plan on getting one of these in April, multitasking notwithstanding.

While it looks sweet, and will most definitely find it use and maaany customers.. where is some love for all the apple fans that basically already knew all of this? There wasn't any jaw-dropping feature, most rumors were correct... I could have slept two hours longer if I just checked the website.... nah I am kidding, I loved the keynote...:)))

The guy is talking BS. There is no such warning about mobile phone radiation. He's even talking about "radioactivity" showing that he's completely clueless. If phones were radioactive... well ... that would be fun. All those five-legged teenagers...
Duh - radiation does not necessarily mean radioactivity. Go look up electromagnetic radiation.

Rich Man's Toy

I was hoping that it would be a big iPod touch when its mobile, but when you attach the external keyboard (with a mouse), then it can be used as a computer.

The way it is at the moment, it's only for people with money to burn. Just because it has a bigger screen, I can't see people who have an iPhone or iPod touch buying this as well.

There is definitely room for improvement, it depends how quickly Apple will do it.

Of course, any serious journalist is not getting this device. Ever.

That's funny. I'm a professional journalist, and I was meeting with other members of our regional press group today. We all think this is a great alternative to lugging a notebook. For the real work that journalists do and the amount of time we spend on the road, this is perfect.

I think the iPhone OS is beginning to show its age, and it's especially visible in iPad home screen. There are so much unused space and it's very static - that homescreen could be used for showing information (for example, you could see the weather information without opening the weather app). Like this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2754/4309595023_d2a0436551_o.jpg. Hopefully the iPhone OS will get a major reform this year.

I think it will probably be a success, but it´s not for everyone (me included)
I´m writing this from a hotel room on my MBP. I have it on my lap, the screen is standing up in front of me and the keyboard is flat. Very comfortable. I just said goodnight to my family on Skype using the camera so I could see my daughter on the other side of the world..
The iPad wouldnt be able to do those things, or at least not as comfortable.
The only thing it has going for it is the eReader side I think. The rest is just less good or convenient than my MBP or iPhone
