As an iPhone app developer, i'm simply happy that Apple take actions against all this iPhone jailbreaking. :D

This is good news for me... maybe not for you.

If you were a true developer you would admire all the amazing apps they've made within the JB community. You're an amateur.

SORRY FOR THE DUPLICATE...NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED THERE.

Weird it seems i'm getting even better battery life. Pre 3.0.1 if i charge up my phone and left it for an hour or two i'd be at 99-98%, post 3.0.1 it's still at 100%

*Shrugs*

Not to mention that it also gives the developers a wider range of potential customers because of the people that buy them to use on T-Mobile.

I JB my Iphones and pay for all my Apps.
You probably develop crap apps like farting apps, etc. If you were a knowledgeable developer, you would know better. Anyway, isn't it a bit past your bedtime. Its 6.30pm here.
Hell some people jailbroke their iphones due to Apples rejection of some of the best apps. GV mobile for instance, which you don't have since your iphone is not jailbroken ha ha ha
It's not on itunes :(

Anyway, would you care to share which apps you have developed? I for one can admit I am not talented in that field.

I am an iPhone app developer for the Itunes store and I still admire the open source community and the apps they have been producing.
So, being a developer doesn't mean you have to hate jailbreakers :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

They should be able to push a diff/patch update.

“We appreciate the information provided to us about SMS vulnerabilities which affect several mobile phone platforms,” an Apple spokeswoman said in a phone interview with Wired.com. “This morning, less than 24 hours after a demonstration of this exploit, we’ve issued a free software update that eliminates the vulnerability from the iPhone. Contrary to what’s been reported, no one has been able to take control of the iPhone to gain access to personal information using this exploit.”

I love how they claim that the patch was created in less than 24 hours after the demonstration, even though they had an entire month before to so something about it.
Or maybe they decided not to do anything until after the demonstation, in which case the claim is legit.

Hmm... Yet I've not had any viruses on over 100 Apple machines in the past 25 years. Funny, sloppy security = perfect security. I'll take it any day of the week over Microsux neolithic non-security.

you dont get it, do you?
While apple is a big name in the computer-industry, it has a small market share. Which means less people use macs than windows.

just like companies release more games for the pc than for the mac, (for more profit because of more users) cyber criminals (or whoever makes viruses) program them usually to attack Windows. (affect more people)

its not some amazing quality of mac os x that prevents viruses. (actually, mac os x has a lot more security flaws and a lot less prevention measures)

I have a JB 3G .. running 3.0 ...

How do i go about updating the phone to 3.0.1 without losing the JB / Apps ..

thanks ...

If you're using an iPhone without a SIM card (just as an iPod/camera) then don't update. I now have to downgrade to 3.0 so I can re-jailbreak my 2G iPhone.

For any one who cares... this update DOES fix the icon problem, or at least did for me.

Wrongo...... Do you know how much bragging rights you would have if you wrote one for the Mac. You would be the first to actually bring it down. I believe it is the amazing quality.

That's garbage. There were many viruses for Mac OS 9 Classic which had a lot less market share. OS X's security isn't perfect but it sure isn't bad either.

To Jailbreak 3.0.1 (I only did this on the original iPhone, not 3GS)

1. Update to 3.0.1 in iTunes

2. Run redsn0w 0.8 and when prompted, select the 3.0 firmware, not 3.0.1

3. If it freezes at "waiting for reboot" follow these steps

Does it break tethering?
Old news by now but...

This didn't break tethering with the 30-pin USB cable, but I couldn't get Bluetooth tethering to work after applying 3.0.1. I could get my MacBook and iPhone to pair over Bluetooth, but not connect. I finally found some tethering troubleshooting instructions here. :) Un-pairing, restarting both the iPhone and MacBook, then pairing again solved the problem. In case it helps anyone else...

I have first hand experience that 3.0.1 is causing some 3GS phones to get stuck in recovery mode with no way of resetting it back to 3.0

I had to download two pieces of third party software to snap it out of recovery mode. Namely libush and iRecovery from this website below

looks like quite a few folks are getting hit with this, only seems to happen on the 3GS though, good luck

My 3GS upgraded just fine... took 15 minutes from start to finish.
Same thing with my wife's 3GS... no issues at all.

What I did choose to do is let iTunes download the update without installing it afterward.
I've seen a few downloads that say they have completed when they really haven't.
So I verified the file size first and then let iTunes do the update.
Smooth as silk.

I tried it twice on one computer and once on another and each time it gets stuck in recovery mode with a 3014 error message, none of Apples suggested solutions work and I resorted to the third party terminal solution to revert the phone out of recovery. The 3G phone upgrade had no issues at all however. check out the support page on the apple site, plenty of folks telling the same tale over there...

I guess I won't be getting this update. 7+ hours to download and that's if my connection doesn't drop which it will : /

Not that it matters I have no cell signal over here :D

Just did a DFU restore to 3.0.1 and jailbroke using redsn0w on my 3GS. Now I have to wait for everything to copy back over to my iPhone. That's why I only do restores before I go to bed. Anyway before I synced my music and everything I played around with it for a bit to make sure the JB was stable and all seems good. If you are jailbroken do a DFU restore to 3.0.1 and follow one of the 3.0.1 JB tutorials, google it, basically the same as 3.0 with a few changes.
