Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.0

Well, I'm forced to give up... I have to go to work so I can pay for this damn thing.

Not to happy with Apple right now.

Beta 5 - to final 3.0

Itunes says I already have 3.0. But It is Beta 5. How do I get the final release. So I downloaded from the direct link. Nothing happens when I try to run it. I try to restore and it says the requested resource wasn't found. I put the file from the direct link, where I found all the old OS updates. Suggestions?

I wonder which is worse... Opening the gates all at once (the current scenario) and then you piss off a bunch of people or strategically stagger which iTunes get the "a new update is ready for you" to help defray the load on their servers... Knowing the MacRumors crowd, that would be akin to torture and the whining would be deafening. At least then when you did get the update, you wouldn't be plagued with these activation issues.

I suppose then too they'd have to disable the manual downloading of the ipsw file until the traffic dies down.
Either way we will get whining.

I wish Apple would though start staged roll outs by location. If it means, waiting, I can do that....but you are right, MANY would not

No issues installing the upgrade on my iPhone 3G. The 1st backup afterwards is taking forever, going on 20+ minutes now.

Didn't have much time yet to play with the upgrade but copy/paste ROCKS!

ok my iPhone (first gen) is really playing up after the 3.0 update. Very slow and laggy, the network icon just says "searching" but i can still phone out, there's no music on it but when connected to iTunes it says that its full. :(

my 2G 3.0 phone is also very laggy..
I don't have the other stuff..
what I think we should do is wait for quickpwn to be released and restore to 3.0 then jailbreak/activate. I think that would fix it.
And then we restore from the backup (I don't want to lose my SMS :p)

Objectionable Material Message

This is interesting. I just got this message when I downloaded the Shazam update. I wonder if Apple will allow applications with more mature content now.

This is not entirely true. I have a 2G iPhone and I'm running 3.0 even though I'm on an unofficial carrier and can't activate thru iTunes obviously.
What I did was, before updating to 2.2.1, I restored to my custom 2.0.2 that i made thru winpwn and then I updated to 2.2.1. I kept the activation. I upgraded to 3.0 and the activation was also kept.. you can't restore, obviously. I'm waiting for quickpwn to restore to 3.0 and activate/jailbreak

Yeah... I've edited my original post.
Thanks.

click shift+update or shift+restore and choose the firmware you downloaded.. it should work.

Quick question for all you fast-internet'd updaters. It'll take all night to download the update here in Jordan anyway (we're GMT+2) so I guess I'll just wait til tomorrow.

The most important thing for me is Arabic Language support. The old firmware disconnected the letters, and in some case even put them left to right: backwards for Arabic.

So if could someone could try adding the Arabic keyboard to their iPhone 3.0, and testing it for me - if it looks like this:

ماك رومارز

then it's good - but if it looks like م ا ك ر و م ا ر ز - with all those spaces - then it's still busted.

(and yes, that says "mac rumors" in arabic. or more specifically, "mak roomarz")

Ringtones

Has anyone has an issue with their ringtones not showing up? They are selected to sync in iTunes, but they do not shop up on my phone. They were there before i upgraded.

Finally! I'm now running 3.0 ---- Had to keep doing it doing it doing it, damn 'Cannot Activate' message.
-- I was surprised it kept all my contacts etc without asking me to restore anything. Clever.

I would also like to know this, please.

I got that like 7 times.

Including the Agreement notice. Had to click through that like 10 times.

But everything went ok otherwise.
