MMS Camera

I installed 3.0 on my phone with no issues (thankfully), but I don't have a camera icon on my texts for MMS. I know AT&T is not supporting it yet, but the icon should be there, shouldn't it? Also the option for internet tethering isn't there either (once again I know it is not supported right off the bat). Does this mean it was held back and we will need ANOTHER update once AT&T decides to support these things? Thanks!

Anybody noticed the subtle difference when sending an SMS?

The keyboard doesn't black out anymore - just a small progress bar at the top of the window.

Shame - kinda liked it before

Surprise Surprise, the servers are struggling to cope with the hundreds of thousands or even millions of people who want V.3 NOW! If you really can't wait then please stop whingeing about server capacity, try your luck and if it works great, if not then take a chill pill and try again tomorrow, it will still be there.

If you really expect Apple to multiply their server capacity by hundreds of times just for the occasional iPhone update then you are living in LaLa land

Well some of us have already tried hours ago, but are now "whining" because we can't actually use our phones. Probably because everyone else is starting to download the update and overloading the servers and they seem to be getting through before us waiting...

Only reason im not happy, i wouldn't mind waiting just to click the update

I know what you mean, but this is practical now, as you can start typing a new message once the old one is sending. Very convenient.

Has anyone with the specific error -9807 made it through?

well i know i haven't... been waiting till the update at 6pm here in UK... 4 hours without my phone :(

Do you actually know what that message is? because people have been getting this -4 and not the -9807... just my luck to have summit different...

What the hell is going on? It's been like this since 2pm it's now 4:45.

only other feature not working is app store new view that everyone is talking about....???

even more important:

has anyone noticed that there is a whole new keyboard? One keyboard is the normal regular one, and one is much darker.

EDIT: I think everyone who already updated their phone should immediately stop using iTunes and updating their apps. That way people who are trying to update the app can get it faster.

Hanging on Activation

here we go... hopefully it won't take too long. I got mine done right away but my wife's is taking a long time.

Anyone know if Facebook is gonna get an update for push notifications? That would be nice.

Backup approaching 2 hours now!

Progress bar is still creeping along, but this is ridiculous. I'm going to let it run its course as it should be fine after one complete backup. What a PITA!!

Long wait for not alot......

In the UK waiting all day for this.

Took what seem like forever to install and now it is installed runs slow and not very happy with it!

Over a 100 changes they say I can find about 20 and many of them are not going to change my day to day use of the phone.

The MMS does not work contacted O2 and send the message, still nothing not very happy!

I love my iPhone but maybe I just hoped for to much from apple this time.

yes

There seems to be faint diagonal lines behind the SMS, Phone and iPod icons. Weird how Apple felt the need to change em.

Yes, that is exactly what I am seeing, and those same lines are showing up on the launch background for the WSJ startup page? Odd.

I finally got past this with a hack I found on the internet. Start the update and whilst it is unpacking disconnect you internet connection. Whilst the firmware is updating re-connect.

Mine worked and the phone seem to activate itself over the AT&T network.

I am on T-mobile in US, and I had the same issue.

After a bit of research, you have to actually turn on MMS first. To do this go to:
Settings -> Messages. But Lo! Turning on MMS was not there!

After fiddling, I discovered that if I entered the MMS apn, proxy, etc details in the Settings->General->Cellular Network-> MMS settings, and restarting, I had the option of MMS. Just tested by sending to myself -> works fine!

That stuff is controlled by an ipcc file bundled with the update that is carrier-specific. Supposedly (I don't know how to do it myself) you can change the ipcc file for AT&T with one for O2 (for example) and magically those options appear and work. My understanding is there is nothing technically stopping those functions from working on AT&T's network (seeing as how other phones can do it). Two reasons for this come to mind; first, for tethering, AT&T hasn't figured out how much they want to rape customers for the service or whether their network can handle it. Secondly, for the MMS, I think they need a way of knowing if your phone has iPhone OS 2.2 or 3.0 installed so that if someone sends you an MMS it can be sent either directly as a regular MMS or translated into the viewmymessage bs.

Ok guys so im really having trouble...

So most of you may be aware of my situation from my rants throughout this thread but for those who havent bascially....

I updated to 3.0 just after 6pm UK time, the update downloaded fine and i went through the install. BUT! when it came to restart the iphone and go to the activation im now getting the -9807 message explained previously... now my phone is only able to make emergency calls...

So i really need to go out now because i need my phone to pick someone up from a concert... i need some help. Is there a way to downgrade back down to the previous update otherwise my phone is just dead and has been for 4 hours now! Its just stupid.:confused:
