Those OTA updates for BB are actually a huge pain in the butt. I once walked a customer through updating their BB Storm, and it took hours to finally get everything updated and then a few more hours getting the thing to backup the db and get back to working order. The system that Apple has in place is far superior both in speed and implementation. The iPhone gets synced before it gets updated, which means if you don't have OTA contact/calendar syncing, you will get that taken care of before you load the new patch. It is cool that you don't need a computer to do an update, but the iPhone way is safer, faster and more reliable. I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell people "you need to delete some information on your BB in order to download the update." I would then hear the response "this is a brand new out of the box BB." That's some genius right there. The grass is not greener on the other side in this case.

This is an amazing upgrade. Now when I call people I get the answer I want to hear. Ah, of only so.

3.1.1 was apparently on the iPod touch when 3.1 came out they got 3.1.1 and we got just 3.1

Since this update apparently applied to both they just decided to call it 3.1.2 for both devices.

Forgot to mention, you also have to plug your BB into the wall more times than not during an update so you're battery doesn't die on you. I've always told customers to update their BB at the end of the day when they go to sleep.

I haven't had any of the issues supposedly fixed, and I find the lack of any info about the battery issues on the iPhone disturbing.

They mention nothing about the MMS bug on the 3Gs iPhone where received movies are split into a picture, a soundfile and a text file. This does not happen on the 3G iPhone with same software.

Currently downloading (but won't install) the 3.1.2 update. I don't see an ipcc downloaded yet. I'd be willing to grab the carrier file update and install that on it's own. Anyone get a copy yet (5.6)?

I'd also like just the 5.6 carrier file to update. My Griffin TuneFlex AUX SmartClick remote doesn't work with 5.5 installed. Who knows why, but it works with every other carrier file I've tried. So I want to try 5.6 and see if it works or not. Anyone care to upload it? Thanks.

I'm not relying on tethering, so I went ahead and updated to the 5.6 carrier file. The 3.1.2 download is on my pc but not getting near my iPhone until Dev Team makes the next move.

Background syncing of appropriately sized objects whenever you're in appropriate range, surely?

Background syncing would be nice, as long as it doesn't interferre with calls or basic functionality of the phone.

Oh wait, nevermind I get dropped calls from at&t without having to do anything already

I've experienced some lag while waking from sleep sometimes, causing me to tap on the home button more than once.
Will begin to do the update now.

Well that bricked my iphone, Im not even jailbroken!!!!

Its currently in DFU mode, stupid thing.

I hope it sorts its self out!

You do know that you can just tell the updates to be saved on your computer?

Because only a very very small percentage of iphone users care about wireless syncing.

not true... I'm sure every owner out there would like to get their latest podcasts w/out being at their home computer

(yes, I know you can go to itunes and download them)

voice memo syncing with itunes is now FIXED!!!!!! prior to this update the voice memos would not sync automatically to itunes, they wouldn't even show up in itunes. now it works as advertised. a voice memos playlists is automatically made when syncing the voice memos from your phone. awesome!

Perhaps the battery issues are to do with the intermittant issues with cellular coverage. If the phone is trying to search for the network more then perhaps the battery is draining quicker. Any thoughts?

Ding ding. I have a 32gb Black 3GS and some days it lasts days on standby and several hours of usage. Some days it last not even a full day and maybe an hours usage. It's how you use it and definitely the strength of the cell signal for sure.
