It's possible that Apple just decided to enable Internet Tethering support by default for non-official carriers that Apple doesn't distribute carrier bundles for.

Which I'd be very happy with :)

Only one NZ carrier has an official bundle, but all of the carriers with compatible networks are happy for users to tether. One of the reasons I've been holding off getting an iPhone is lack of tethering, so if this "fix" is true then I'm a step closer!

Sorry but the list "recently played" on your iTunes resembles the machine where your iTunes is installed on. Every device has its own list of recently played songs, so your iPhone has one and for example your girlfriends iPod also. Even if you synch all those devices with only one iTunes then they keep their own recently played lists. So actually, it is a bug that iTunes offers synching for that list as that list does really exist but is very dynamic and device dependent. (Actually its like /proc on a Mac, there is nothing there like a file but you can read from it :) because those are actually pipes undercover )

So sorry to say that, but you might want to look into creating another smart play list best matching your preferences.

This is completely incorrect. The dynamic playlist sync'ed from iTunes is static once on the iPhone. It should sync my most recently played 500 songs in the order they are on iTunes to the phone. And, when the phone is plugged into iTunes, iTunes should compare timestamps on both libraries and re-sort the list based on the order of the songs were played between both devices if live updating is available. (i.e. if I play a song at 9:00 on iTunes and then 9:01 on my phone, next time I sync, the 9:01 song is first, the 9:00 song at #2 in the dynamic playlist).

With the bug, the list of songs on the playlist once on the phone would be completely random, full of songs I haven't listened to on any device in at least several months.

No it doesn't.

My recently played list amalgamates both. If I listen to a song on my iPhone and plug it into iTunes to sync, that song appears at the top of my Recently Played list on iTunes. The list on the iPhone then also updates to show the songs I've played on iTunes since I last updated.

Thank you and goodnight.

Can someone with a 3G or 3GS who has updated please post what Settings -> General -> About says their modem firmware version is now at? Thanks!

Blah

Does it fix the stupid 3G GPS issue where it will NEVER lock on to a signal!?!? It's been driving me nuts! GPS is practically useless, and it's def an issue. There is a huge thread about it on apple's support site!

That's not what he means. iPod touch cannot double tap to bring up the controls UNLESS music is playing. Before, iPod users could double tap ANYTIME to bring up controls. Then Apple changed it so that it was the same as the iPhone.
Hm? As far as I know I can double tap to bring up the music control regardless of whether the the music is playing or not on my iPhone, as long as the screen is locked (if the screen unlocked it goes to whatever I've set it to, I think it's phone -> favourite recipients).

Hey,I don't spam but any of you seen the crap Engadget has done? They turned of their comments. Things have gotten pretty crazy since the launch of the ipad and people were swinging like Ali up in them post. LOL!
Does that ad run tech site really think a real man or woman cares if they knock off the comments? OMFG!
Anyway, I love Macrumors.
Peace and love for everyone.

BlueTooth???

Any news on whether Apple updated the BlueTooth functionality on the iPod Touch. I know that some headsets and some BlueTooth headphones work but the ones I have do not.

I did not see it referenced in the thread so I thought I would ask.

I am anxious to use my headset with Skype.

Well, previous to 3.0, the iPod touch was able to double tap the home button to bring up iPod controls no matter what app you're in and no matter if music is playing or not playing. That's the difference. Now, iPod users have to get out of what ever app they're using, go into iPod, start playing music and then go back into the app they were using. It used to be easier to just double tap, hit play and close the dialog.

Under the previous OS it worked at any time, whether locked, unlocked, at the home screen, in an app...

If I'm running an app and listening to music, then I can pause it. Under OS 3.1, once I want to start the music up again I need to close the current app, open the Music app, resume playback, then restart the app I was running. Alternatively I need to lock the iPod, double-tap, resume playback, then unlock. Under OS 2 it was a simple double-tap at any time.

You mean you wouldn't consider simply jailbreaking if it turns out to not be true (and even if it does turn out to be true)? :)

Just jailbreak and use 'iPodPop', it's not a big deal.

Yes in the US, but in other countries it varies...

I'm still on 3.0.1 because I don't want to lose native tethering. I have never jailbroken my phone and don't intend to.

I was wondering, is jailbreaking the only way to get tethering on 3.1.2?

I hate it when someone justifies something that Apple does by telling people to jailbreak to fix it. Lame.

Apple takes something away from us? Don't tell them about it... just jailbreak. That will get stuff done... not.

Does the phone's screen still come on every time it receives an email?

What an unnecessary waste of battery power.
