I hate it when someone justifies something that Apple does by telling people to jailbreak to fix it. Lame.
Apple takes something away from us? Don't tell them about it... just jailbreak. That will get stuff done... not.
Does the phone's screen still come on every time it receives an email?
What an unnecessary waste of battery power.

It works, believe me. Check out this thread. http://www.mactechnews.de/forum/thread.html?id=284779&page=2
As I said in the previous post. I am writing this from my MBP connected to my factory unlocked iPhone 3G with o2 Germany as carrier!
Interesting feature, can't save I've ever seen that with the thousands of emails I get....
Surprisingly, iPhone still substitutes "upas" for "iPad"
If anything, iPhone OS has gotten slower and slower as new updates have been released. iPhone OS 1.0 on the original iPhone was by far the fastest experience. Compared to running 3.0 on a 3G it's just insane. The OS was getting so slow that they really had to boost the processing power with the 3GS to compensate for the software slowdown.
Only a fool would honestly say that each release is "snappier".

Are you guys using Push and MobileMe for email? Why would it happen to my phone and no one elses? Not only does it waste battery, but it is disctracting to see the screen come on while I am working at my desk.
Under the previous OS it worked at any time, whether locked, unlocked, at the home screen, in an app...
If I'm running an app and listening to music, then I can pause it. Under OS 3.1, once I want to start the music up again I need to close the current app, open the Music app, resume playback, then restart the app I was running. Alternatively I need to lock the iPod, double-tap, resume playback, then unlock. Under OS 2 it was a simple double-tap at any time.
Well, previous to 3.0, the iPod touch was able to double tap the home button to bring up iPod controls no matter what app you're in and no matter if music is playing or not playing. That's the difference. Now, iPod users have to get out of what ever app they're using, go into iPod, start playing music and then go back into the app they were using. It used to be easier to just double tap, hit play and close the dialog.
WARNING FOR JAILBREAK USERS! Do not update.

Which I'd be very happy with
Only one NZ carrier has an official bundle, but all of the carriers with compatible networks are happy for users to tether. One of the reasons I've been holding off getting an iPhone is lack of tethering, so if this "fix" is true then I'm a step closer!
Correct. There is plenty of lag with 3.0. Apps open slower, and when you touch the screen, the recognition is not instantaneous like it was prior to 3.0.
My 3GS has never done this when receiving an email. Perhaps you meant to say "receives a text message?"
Exciting! My battery level is all over the map...
Just like AT&T's service?![]()
Or what? If I shouldn't upgrade because I will lose the JB and nothing else, not an issue. I can re-jailbreak it down the road. However if the update is proven to brick only JB phones (maybe a legit one here and there), then hell no I won't update.

Fun! I have to say, AT&T has me pretty well covered from coast-to-coast in Florida. I get a little spotty - even Edge is questionable - on some stretches of I-10 between Lake City and Madison. But aside from that, I don't know what all the hubbub is about.I thought AT&T WASN'T all over the map.
The update fixed this issue for me! My smart playlists are finally in alphabetical order by song name, as they are defined in iTunes.
No, I meant email. I can send an email to my personal account from my desktop at work and after a minute or so, the phone's screen turns out. I don't get a message box, but the inbox counter goes up. After my set period of inactivity, the screen turns back off . . . until the next email arrives.
I have even turned off Notifications, and it still happens. I did have Notifier installed at one point. Maybe that jacked something up.
