When you say 'it' do you mean the interface or functionality? Because personally I didn't think the interface was in need of an improvement at all. If they're going through this trouble of updating the interface why don't they give me the option to increase font sizes in list view? That would impress me a lot more than an interface redesign. I'm not saying it's bad but as you can tell I prefer functionality improvements over interface adjustments ... luckily this update did come with some functionality improvements.

I do mean the interface. iTunes looked like some load of bloatware from the early 2000's. It's 2012, not 2001. Tables are a thing of the past. Software is being more organized in a visual way, which I think iTunes 11 has successfully accomplished with it's album view.

I don't see how UP NEXT replaces DJ. How can I simply move tracks up and down on a playlist as it is playing and seeing the new order? In DJ you could drag songs you want to play next. Or move some down the list. It seems in UP NEXT that does not happen.

It seems simplified for those who simply want to queue up songs. If you want to DJ like that, you'll have to use a playlist.

Before I upgrade, can someone tell me if iTunes 11 will "not" affect how podcasts in my playlists will sync with my iPhone.

Yes there is. View->Column Browser - but you have to select the Songs button first

Silly me - I expected to have a 'list' option just like the rest of the generes do. Nice UI consistency there.

It also looks like cover view is gone?

In general, it looks like a reskin with no new major functionality at all (multiple genres, multiple itunes/app store accounts, etc).

A nice reskin, but hardly the 'big deal' that they'd hyped it to be. The main views are way way too slow and clunky if you have any volume of albums or tv shows.

Anyone know how to get rid of the cloud icons on the left (I don't use cloud at all - never will)? I figured out how to hide them in the list views.

Hmmm...

I have some annoyances..

- Before, you could quickly jump from your library to a specific playlist. Now you have to click on "Playlists" and then choose the playlist you want. To get back to my library, I have to click "Songs" (which I do, because the Album/Artist tabs are not very useful when having 8k songs)

- Search is crap... What if I have multiple of the same songs, but want to find the right one from a specific album with a specific track length? Now I have to click enter to get to these results.

- It's not very clear that the "iTunes Store" / "Library" button is on the right.

- Why is there a "drag down" cursor below the bar with songs, albums etc. when you can't drag down (to make it... higher??)

- In the iTunes Store, why can't you scroll the albums on the top with two finger swipe? Apple is continuously forcing us to do multitouch gestures - why having two buttons to do that then??

I am able to drag things up and down in the Up Next queue just fine.

You can even multi-select and do this.

No keyboard shortcuts for this that I know of, though.

Edit: BTW, you can even do this with Remote for iOS. Switch to list view (which now shows the Up Next view instead of the album, hmmm, how do I rate songs now?), then hit Edit and you can move songs up and down.

Yes. yes I was. Because PowerPC is a precious thing that Apple should honour until the day the company dies.

And don't tell me a Quad 2.5GHz G5 can't handle iTunes 11...that is a load of crap. The thing is still a beast of a computer. Apple is simply too lazy to code for 6-year old hardware that they don't sell anymore, so they drop support.

Well it can't. For the sole reason of this finally being a native 64bit Cocoa App.

Ridiculously unusable search

The search is ridiculously slow now -- I have a very large library (I'm a musician) and the search now takes several seconds to do anything, even if I turn off "Search Entire Library." If I tell it to search a single thing (like only Composer) it is slightly faster, but still much slower than the previous version. Huge step backwards.

It's... really friggin' fast.

Odd... not having that problem.

What the hell is Up Next? I don't see any menu item for that.

Furthermore where is the ability to show upcoming songs and previously played songs as well as allowing remote voting from iOS devices to the iTunes DJ? Why would Apple cripple their software?

.

Up next allows you to queue songs. Click the playlist-looking icon in the info window at the top to see the queue. click the arrow next to songs to add them to the queue.
