So, as an experiment I tried reverting: it's not as clean cut as just replacing the new version with the one in your backup. I didn't use Time Machine, but a clone, but the principle is the same.

  • When you first try replacing it, you'll need to change the iTunes.app permissions or send the new iTunes to the trash, since OS X wont let you replace it as easily.
  • You'll also need to bring back the old iTunes libraries too, or it wont open.
  • Once replaced, every time I open iTunes it gives me a bunch of weird errors, the most troubling one being not recognizing my iPhone...

I used to have my library configured in two mac so I could manage my iPhone and iPods in both.... I guess that's broken too.

So, there you have it: if you updated and really can't use the new version, hence revert, you're in for some fun if you have an iPhone. My advise: perhaps wait a bit until all major bugs are identified and solved before updating and be aware of the differences before upgrading... but in the long run I guess there's not much of a choice. Listening to the Stones right now, two songs come to mind: Satisfaction and You Can't Always Get What You Want...

I guess I'll go to the new version again just to save me trouble with my phone - not that I care to much since I seldom use iTunes, only to manage my phone and to stream music to my AppleTV.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

I've tried twice now - de authorising on the new one then putting 10.7 back but it still has that error.

11 must change something the 10.7 installer can't put back properly. I don't have an idevice or use the store anymore so i'll happily use 10.7 going forward if i can get it working again - worst case i'll reinstall the OS from scratch.

Well... it works ok on Apple TV anyway when watching podcasts (sometimes), renting movies, (all the time), as I only watch on Apple TV.... We have 2 in the house, sharing the same account, and it resumes on the other, when parents wondering why "who's been watching this" type question .... :)

Givin' that its comes from the same place, i don't see why it wouldn't work in the app.

I guess it makes sense with content from Apple, but what about my digital copy from BluRay/DVDs. I wonder if I have a copy on my iPad, or use home sharing if it will still remember it.

Thanks; this settles it for me then. I m NOT upgrading to that POS now...at least will wait til all my questions are clarified, such as list view aspects, whether bit rates can still be easily seen etc.

iTunes 10.7 is rock-solid for me and my iMac; no bugs, no crashes, no slowness...and no reason to upgrade.

Me too I don't think I will ever upgrade to it. You know apple wont' go back if they do it will be a miracle they are so prideful. I guess I can't upgrade my apple tv now just incase.

Hmmm, if you click on the little albumart icon in the LCD window you get this:

EDIT: You can actually make it bigger/smaller, and close the main iTunes window/mini player altogether and use this as a mini player :p

You have absolutely impeccable taste in music. :)

Viewing bit rates in the list view isn't easy enough?

I gotta say i love it.

Much faster and works/look great. The new remote app is great too. Hopefully they'll implement this layout in the next iOS version for iPad.

It took a while for that to get to iTunes :) Youtube was probably better still.

Help me out guys!
Some albums have these cloud download symbols next to songs that I already have! One album even shows 3 of the same song for every song! two cloud download symbol songs and one original that I've had for awhile before this update. I don't understand what this is and how to get rid of it.

big ups on little brother on your itunes.

Redesigned?

I'm so over Apple advertising. "Completely Redesigned"! Like we've all been wanting that!
So that means we've been using a substandard product all these years that needed an overhaul? The old one works for me, I'll hold off on the update and wait for "service pack 1" ;) to fix the bugs.

And off topic, why is a simple iPhoto software update over 1Gig? My lowly rural internet plan doesn't want to do that.

you can use the trial version of cleanmymac to remove it and replace it with version 10.7.

I Think simplify means Not customizable in any Way again. It's a shame i can't get my previous Look working again. iTunes new means of Media Control are Way to Album Driven for my taste. I wish there were a list view under Genre.

Click Songs, then in the column browser select the genre you want. Same as 10.7, except it doesn't include the album art (the Artists view is where you see that, but it isn't filterable like the Songs view is).

to complainers: go to apple feed and let them know.

complaining here won't change anything. we need lot of people to tell them about the problems...and surely they will fix that.

That's a good point (assuming Apple is listening of course!) - however posting these complaints on this forum is still very helpful for folks like me who don't want to get a nasty surprise when they upgrade. And make no mistake, having cover flow mode taken away is a VERY nasty surprise to anyone with a large music collection.

I won't be touching this upgrade until cover flow comes back, which worries me because I want to keep up with new Apple devices but could not easily manage my music database without having a list view with artwork visible.

Yes! Movies and TV shows can be streamed without downloading locally!

I thought iTunes 10 already had this and was very disappointed when it didn't. But iOS needs to do this too! I don't have enough space to download a whole 5GB movie semi-permanently.

You can have both large artwork and the mini player.. Which looks great, but would've loved it if you can make the album art even smaller..

As said above, it's not clear what one can or cannot have in the new version under list view and sorted by album date/artist...won't upgrade til I am absolutely clear that I can have EXACTLY the same list view as in 10.7.

Here's the Songs view options:
