You should still be able to use Get Info -- select multiple tracks, do Command-I, then click on the artwork box and Command-V (Paste) your copied artwork image. Not optimal, definitely. It seems like they think everyone just has iTunes music now.

Thanks, that will at least let you select a file to use. Couldn't see any way to simply copy/paste the art from an existing track though. But better than nothing.

NAS iTunes library

I have been having great trouble with multiple users on an iMac and one user on a MBA using the same iTunes library from a network NAS.

Has anyone with an NAS tried iTunes 11? Do the upgraded guts help?

so where's this facebook and twitter integration we were expecting? anything?

i see the gallery button but those are mostly empty and like ping, useless

Same, I have Gallery under each Artist, but when I click on it, it just says No Gallery is Available for "Artist" after searching the store or something.

I guess it makes sense with content from Apple, but what about my digital copy from BluRay/DVDs. I wonder if I have a copy on my iPad, or use home sharing if it will still remember it.

Can't help with that one.... I don't use optical media at all. I'l try with my parents.

I'm so over Apple advertising. "Completely Redesigned"! Like we've all been wanting that!
So that means we've been using a substandard product all these years that needed an overhaul? The old one works for me, I'll hold off on the update and wait for "service pack 1" ;) to fix the bugs.

And off topic, why is a simple iPhoto software update over 1Gig? My lowly rural internet plan doesn't want to do that.

Likewise.... Why can't people just open it up and see the *surprise*.. :) Much more useful..... Its like chocolate being handed to you.

Is there any way to get search results to appear in songs view with column browser on. The results seems to switch you over into one of the other views, and as soon as you switch back into song view, everything is visible again.

And its a bit of pain to lose the ability to open a second iTunes window. This was for me, the easiest way to set up playlists because you could see both the playlist and the source.

For quite some time, iTunes has included parameters for controlling the shuffle feature. Until I changed them I too encountered the problem you describe. Now whenever I use shuffle it is completely and verifiably random.

Hi, can you please elaborate on this? Many thanks!

Click Songs, then in the column browser select the genre you want. Same as 10.7, except it doesn't include the album art (the Artists view is where you see that, but it isn't filterable like the Songs view is).

It's not quite the same because you can't get the Genre in a single column between sidebar and the Musiclist. You can only get the genres (and if you want artist and Album) above the list which gives me about 1500 pixels of empty space and the need to scroll a lot until you find the genre you want. So now the only way around is an intelligent playlist for each genre. It works but it is less than ideal - which is, for me at least, pretty much the sum of iTunes 11.

Sometimes less is just less.

Does the Last.fm scrobbler still scrobble?
Yes, it does.

The Mini player looks really nice on a clean desktop. Also I'm not having any issues that others are having with the buttons.
That's a lovely wallpaper. Would you mind sharing it?

I like this new version of iTunes very much. :) I can't say I've come across any of the bugs/issues mentioned here, yet.

Strange, as i've never purchased any of these:

Those are song's you've previewed in the Store, not bought. The idea is that if you've previewed a song and later on are trying to remember who/hat that was, it's in that list, and you can buy it (or preview it again).

Ok, I was REALLY hoping that Apple had fixed the MISSING ALBUM covers when you transfer to IPhone or IPad... but NOPE! Now it's even more tedious to copy and paste album cover so that it appears on my iphone...

Sigh, seriously, why wasn't this fixed!

Does anyone know a good alternative to iTunes they can suggest?

Just found a BIG screw-up, at least for me: the visualizer can no longer remain windowed in a 2nd screen while being able to choose music in the main one.

Unless I'm missing something?

anyone?

I used to have my library configured in two mac so I could manage my iPhone and iPods in both.... I guess that's broken too.

I didn't think you could ever do that - syncing with multiple libraries always triggered the 'this devices is synced with a different library' error

Can you elaborate? If there is album art work in iTunes, it will transfer the the iOS device. If there is none, it won't have any to transfer. You can right (ctrl) click an album and say album artwork, at which point iTunes will try to get the right album art work from the store, however this is sometimes hit or miss.

Another issue with column browser is that if have something selected, and hence only those items showing in the main window, and then switch over to movies, when you switch back to music that selection is lost and the entire music library is shown again.

They really don't want you to use column browser

Nope, it doesn't always transfer. Bug.

This is the first time I saw 1000 comments on MacRumors in one day! The only change I wanted is simpler library migration to new computer, and allow iOS devices sync to more than one library. Right now Migration and Syncing is like hell.

Anyone else confused by the two shuffle 'buttons' when viewing a playlist? One is a 'shuffle and play now' and the other is the shuffle toggle we're used to.

A lot of these things seem to be change for change's sake.

This has been a long running issue (check out all the apple forums about this issue)... I'm pretty meticulous about my library and every album has album cover associated to it.

For quite a while now when transferring over the album art disappears (again, this is a well known problem that apple has never addressed)... The only solution was to copy and paste the album artwork into the already transferred album on your iphone-tedious.

So just now I transferred 2 albums over and POOF- NO album art on my iphone. Nothing.

It was hoped this obvious issue would have been fixed... but NOPE.

And now I don't even know how to easily access the album artwork in 11! I right click on the album that shows the artwork but in the info pane- nothing!

Ugh... beyond annoying.

BTW I have an iphone 4 w IO6 and an IPad mini.

ITUNES 11 breaks smart playlists based on last played and/or play count info.

iTunes 11 will not update the play count or last played info for a song. So, any smart playlist that is based on last played or play count info will not update itself.

For example, if you have a smart playlist set up for:

Last played is not in the last 30 days
Plays are less than 3
Limit to 25 items
Live update

Then when a song is finished playing it should remove itself from the list thus allowing for another song that matches those criteria to take it's place.

But since the playcount and last played info isn't updating, the song will not be removed from the list after it plays. Thus the same 25 songs stay in the list and play over and over and over again.

UPDATE: Turning off crossfade fixes the issue. So, it IS a bug, but at least there is a workaround of sorts.
Can anyone else confirm this? I am not updating now, will wait until tomorrow (well actually today-it's nearly one PM here) evening to do the update after the usual backup etc. Smartplaylists are my one must-have feature in itunes.

Otherwise lol at the comments, most seem to like it but some really don't. Maybe we need a poll in a few days.

Where do I download the version for PowerPC/10.5.8 Leopard for G5?

I don't see anywhere there is a version available.

Did Apple just ditch PowerPC users in the dark with this or something?

Yes. System requirements are OS X 10.6.8 or newer. So, no PPC support.

FWIW, selling the PPC Mac on eBay and plunking a couple hundred more into a brand new low-end Mac mini (or a previous model off Apple refurb or eBay) and you won't regret it. We just replaced our kids' G5 iMac with the previous-model lowest-end Mac mini and the speed difference was astounding.
