Wow, genius mixes is quite cool...

Indeed. I wonder if you can generate more than the selected mixes?

Also Genius has also gotten a lot smarter, I'm able to Genius songs from J. Cole, and the guy doesn't even have an official album out yet.

YES YES YES YES!!!

Finally after bloody ages I can once again REMOVE that ***** GENRE column from my Browser window.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

If people didn't want to run the latest technologies, such as running a kernel in 64 bit, then we'd still be typing this message on a 486DX2, with 66 Mhz.

People who claim you don't need more than 32-bit, remind me of that guy that said "640K ought to be enough for anybody".

99.9% of Mac and Windows users don't NEED more than 32-bit. No one is saying that we should be stuck on 32-bit apps forever, but people are acting like they must have 64-bit iTunes right now. And if you sat them down in front of a Mac running a 64-bit version of iTunes today, they'd never know it. So the "OMG WHY ISN'T ITUNES 64-BIT YET?" stuff is a little ridiculous.

iTunes 9 is no big deal...soruced up shopping etc but for myself the main function of iTunes is not the store, it's playing music and keeping track.

One annoyance...you can no longer minimize iTunes into a small thing by clicking on the green button upper left...Apple should restore that function.

just option-click the green button

I think everyone should take a minute to send Apple feedback (iTunes > Provide iTunes Feedback) and complain about the moronic change. It will only take a minute and Apple actually does listen to the feedback.

Just Installed...Still 32bits on Snow Leopard...

still 32 bit tho :(

Better yet, is it 64 bit full cocoa? :D

I'm surprised iTune is still 32bit only.

32 bit
Ugly white backgrounds apps, movies, podcasts etc.
Podcasts and Videos are a standard size and not able to change the icon size
Play and next buttons look unfinished and a little bit iconized on the top.

I am a little bit sad that I upgraded so fast

I see its 64 bit. I thought the update would of brought 64 bit to iTunes. Ah well.

It's not just you - it is very cheap looking. It looks like a bad skin mod. Also grid view is now white - WHY?!?!?! it looked fine before

plus, WHERE THE F**K IS 64BIT!?!?! Windows gets it - why not us? - esp. after Snow Leopard - I WANT 64BIT!!!!

What's so great about a 64-bit version? Why do so many people want it so badly? Is there any real benefit?

I've just updated my iTunes to version 9 and I saw that my Windows Live Messenger don't show what I'm listening now...my options are okay. I've checked the preferences, my MSN options. Everything is turned on. My operating system is Windows XP. Anybody know what to do?

The busted Album by Artist and Album by Year sorting (ignores disc number) is definitely a bug that will be fixed post-haste. Some of the UI decisions are questionable. I wish Apple would stop letting the iTunes guys go hog-wild with custom stuff just for the hell of it.

The most important question I have though is whether or not you're allowed to move around files that were not purchased from iTunes with Home Sharing? Since iTunes is DRM-free now, I don't see how that'd be different. If you can, are files you've ripped yourself subsequently tagged with your Apple ID? I can't seem to find clear answers on this elsewhere.

You didn't read the page before you posted, did you? Push "option" then click the green button to access the mini player (aka small thing).

because anyone who actually *needs* 64-bit computing today is not likely running iTunes... Can you explain why you feel 64-bit iTunes is so important?
The reason there is a Windows 64-bit version is because...drumrooolll please... Windows 64-bit can only run 64-bit code!!! Fortunately, (Snow)/Leopard has no restrictions and plebe consumers like us can just run our apps, 32 or 64-bit side by side without rebooting, worrying about drivers, legacy software etc etc etc.
64-bit iTunes would offer absolutely no improvement; or do you actually have 32 GB of RAM in this Mac on which you run iTunes?

Well that's certainly not true.

Same! Has happened twice before to me. 80gb or more of various movies, TV shows, music- all gone - some remaining- on all 3 of my AppleTV's.

Well, I would love to hear any solution you may come up with. I used this solution: an iTunes 8.2.1 dmg file.

I'm going back to 8.2.1.

And if it wasn't for this breaking my AppleTV stuff, then I'd go back anyways for that awful white background in 9.0. What is Apple thinking lately, stylistically? I got used to the grey, now we're back with iTunes White.

It seems like most of the negative feedback here is based on rushed assumptions or ignorance about UI conventions.

The green button should have never been used to bring the mini player, but simply to adjust window sizes. Apple is actually doing the right thing by making the user click option along with the button itself, as this ensures a consistent use of the green button throughout the OS.

I also saw at least 10 posts bashing Apple for something related to "genres" or "column views" that, as shown by others, can be EASILY modified in the preferences...

So the only thing remaining is whether the white background for the grid looks good or not...pretty much every other criticism seems to be ******** in this forum.

Installed it here, looks "different", not necessarily good or bad. I will miss the black background while in Grid Mode though. Why is it black in Cover Flow but white in Grid? Also the removal of the slider to adjust the size of the covers while in Grid Mode is kind of a bummer. Other than that... haven't really found anything else that irritates me.

And, well, the silver may be slightly too light... Feels a bit rushed and unfinished. Needs a bit more polishing.

I'll stick with iTunes 9 and hope for some updates to return features/enhancements from iTunes 8 - let's hope Apple listens.

Okay, where the **** is the arrow that appears next to the currently playing song in list view?? I have a huge list and it's this is just inconveinient to have to search for the currently playing track.

AND

I could have swore that the grid view used to be adjustable in size. Maybe i'm confused, but I could have sworn that I used to be able to make the albums in gride view bigger or smaller. Maybe i'm missing it....

Check post 214.

the whole iTunes layout is a lot cleaner love the icons and the column browser background (yes it will stay on top please!). dont know if i like the new window UI, its shiny... but why does it always have to be DIFFERENT to the rest of the OS?! might this be a peak of 10.7's UI?

does anyone know if iTunes 9 is cocoa? i.e. not have any acient UI elements hanging around.

My only real complaints is that now iTunes doesn't acknowledge disc #. And when I plug in my iPhone for some reason the iPhone window doesn't have a scroll bar.

I can't update Genius!

I've been trying to update Genius since I installed iTunes 9, but I always get an error message (it can't connect to the store).

Am I the only one with that problem?

Can you downgrade?

I took another look at iTunes 9. I really don't like it. I liked the look of 8 much better.

Windows & 64bit iTunes

Well that's certainly not true.

the widows 64bit iTunes is not 64bit. only the drivers for ipods, and iphone and core changes needed for it to run under windows XP / vista 64bit,

the application it self is still "32bit"

as for the MAC, it looks like iTunes has been rewritten and is now a "cocoa"
witch has way more benefits than iTunes 8 being carbon.

little things like the album art work loading faster. the app opening and closing better. stuff like that.

There is a 64 bit vers of iTunes for Windows according to many users on the Apple support pages, but not for MAC!?! WTF!?!?

There is no 64-bit version of iTunes for Windows. There's a special download for 64-bit Windows that includes 64-bit iPhone and iPod drivers and a 64-bit installer. However, the iTunes application itself is not 64-bit.

The reason there is a Windows 64-bit version is because...drumrooolll please... Windows 64-bit can only run 64-bit code!!!

That's not true either. Windows XP, Vista and 7 64-bit can all run 32-bit applications without problems. However, 64-bit signed hardware drivers (see answer above) are required for security purposes.

Apparently not true. There is a 64 bit vers of iTunes for Windows according to many users on the Apple support pages, but not for MAC!?! WTF!?!? Not all windows vers are 64 bit.
Not likely. If it's like iTunes 8, there is only one version of iTunes -- 32 bit.

There are two iTunes installers for Windows, one for Win32 one and one for Win64, but there is only one version of iTunes itself. The 64 bit installer is needed to use CD importing and burning, since you need the 64 bit drivers. But the iTunes app and it's support processes are still 32 bit.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the iTunes webpage reads your browser info when it gives you the download. So if you try to download iTunes for Windows from Firefox (32-bit), it will give you the 32 bit iTunes installer. I beleive you have to use the 64 bit Internet Explorer that comes with 64 bit Windows to get the correct installer sent to you.

The reason there is a Windows 64-bit version is because...drumrooolll please... Windows 64-bit can only run 64-bit code!!!
LULZ. Why don't you quit embarrassing yourself. The majority of Windows apps are 32 bit, so Windows 64 bit has to be able to run 32 bit apps to be useful to most people. I have Adobe CS4, and the only apps that actually comes in a 64 bit version is Photoshop. the others are still 32 bit. It installs both a 32 bit and 64 bit version of Photoshop, too. I always use the 32 bit version because that's what my plugins work on.
