Just took the plunge and installed iTunes 9...really, after reading all these "complaints" by a select few, I must say: you guys are full of hot air.

1) iTunes looks a lot cleaner, and feels MUCH faster in scrolling and playing when dealing with relatively large libraries like mine (50+ Gb);

2) The white background used in movies is consistent with the overall browsing experience, and ALSO looks a lot cleaner;

3) Home sharing is a much welcome feature;

4) Gradient, buttons and the "brighter" tone look a lot better than what is being said here by some "pundits"; and no, it does NOT look unfinished; the equalizer looks kinda cool too;

5) Genius mixes is a REALLY cool and smart feature.

I hope these comments bring some reason back to this forum; otherwise we tend to think that all Apple does is crap nowadays.

How does Home Sharing work? I authorized the computers and the libraries see each other. What now? :confused:

I think everyone should take a minute to send Apple feedback (iTunes > Provide iTunes Feedback) and complain about the moronic change. It will only take a minute and Apple actually does listen to the feedback.

Actually, you can hold the OPTION key and click it to minimize, or use the new keyboard shortcut.

These both make more sense than using a plain zoom button click which should, and finally does, zoom the damn window.

I see this as a smart change, given that it'd been an aberrant behavior for so long.

Just my opinion.

Homesharing does not work!!

I have a Imac and a macbook, why can't I homeshare between the two, because they cannot be mines?

Thanks for the nice comments. I'm not the only one full of hot air. I really don't care what you say about the white background. For me, it is ugly. Everything new and improved isn't always new and improved. IMO, v9 is a step down. Not everyone here thinks that everything that Apple does is crap. Leopard and Snow Leopard were great upgrades. iTunes 9 isn't. Not everyone can hit for the cycle. Once in a while, they hit a popup to the mound.

From what I can see, the libraries shall appear under "shared" in guest iTunes computers...from there you can play shared music.

You could do that before. I thought that now you could transfer the stuff from one library to another.

Apparently not true. There is a 64 bit vers of iTunes for Windows according to many users on the Apple support pages, but not for MAC!?! WTF!?!? Not all windows vers are 64 bit. Also, if this is the reason, why then is there a 64 bit (for snow leopard) of every app built into the OS, Mail, Preview, iPhoto, etc etc etc and also a 32 bit vers for OS 10.5 and earlier?

I stand corrected, iPhoto IS actually also 32 bit. Huh, hurry up and offer a 64 bit version of the iLife suite apple, c'mon.
WTF that you're yelling to get a 64-bit itunes. how about cocoa...?!

Just upgraded. UI is horrid. Why oh why can't they make iTunes match the rest of the OS for once? They change things just for the sake of changing them, I swear.

People around here are too picky. The new interface looks awesome, very fresh and clean. iTunes seams a little faster and the Home Sharing option is a big plus!

The issue isn't Apple's ability to do a 64 bit Cocoa version of iTunes (although it would be a major undertaking and I'm sure that large sections of it are in Cocoa in a lab somewhere). The real problem for Apple is their desire to keep a modern iTunes available to the widest possible audience. iTunes 9 works with Snow Leopard, Leopard AND Tiger. Only Tiger cannot support 64 bit Cocoa GUI apps. Recent versions of iTunes even went back to supporting 10.3.9. Although Apple tried to keep their user base moving forward, the last bits of code to ever come forward are iTunes, Quicktime, and Safari. When Apple finally drops Tiger support for these three pieces of code, we might get a Cocoa 64 bit iTunes for the Mac. Heck I expect the next version of iLife/iWork will end up 64 bit Cocoa before iTunes makes the jump.

One extra note: Although iTunes 9 supports Tiger (v10.4.11), it notably does not support G3 processors for the first time (Windows 2000 support is dropped too). There is still a link on Apple's web page to download iTunes 8.2.1 for those users (or any user that wants to downgrade). One problem I see is that iTunes isn't smart enough to enforce those restrictions. I have one G3 PowerMac from a decade ago running Tiger that still functions as an iTunes server in my house. iTunes 8.2.1 on that machine asked if I wanted to upgrade to iTunes 9 even though that suggestion might end badly (although I haven't tried it...who knows?).

Ok, rubbish was a strong term ... but then you shouldn't be telling people to keep "stum" if they don't like something, after all it's their opinion as you said.

By professional, I mean in it's appearance. iTunes 8 did have a degree of polish to it, but iTunes 9 genuinely to me looks unfinished, almost like it's got one final phase of coding to go through, it just feels really ... unfinished, lol.

hmmm fair enough i guess that was a bit silly of me.. I havent got SL yet, but i do wonder how this iTunes update ties in with the general appearance of that OS as well. At the moment Apple are having to supply itunes to how many different OS bases. To my knowledge Panther is still supported even with this itunes version, which must have in hand some challenges.

Im not saying the itunes is brilliant by any stretch, im still mildly confused as to why there still remains blue/grey in there somewhere on the scrollbars, just make it the same finish across the whole OS surely!!

I quite like the look of the pale gradients myself. but thats just me on my on my own i think with that one lol :)

I could share my libraries before Home Sharing. What's the difference then?

I think with this new flashy home sharing, it allows multiple sharing from one account, i.e you can share stuff across multiple computers, using just the one itunes account, and also copy stuff.

Dont quote me on that though, its just an assumption..

:)

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Although this was an attempt at satisfying the many of iphone users, including myself, who have been completely dumbfounded by the lack of iphone app organization through itunes thus far, this new iTunes 9 iphone organization ability is a far cry from the usually feature rich apple ideas.

It is nice that I now have the ability to move applications and pages around from iTunes, however, it is the same tedious process used to organize applications from the iphone itself. Where is the Auto-organization by category, name, etc? Where are folders?

This, to me, seems almost like a slap in the customers face. We heard you consumer so here is organization slapped together at the last minute. This is like a term paper for an english class, written the night before the due date.

It is not like people have not been willing to offer apple suggestions, ideas, comments or concerns regarding application organization. There have even been demonstrations online of wonderful organization methods. Apple executives KNOW what we want!

This attempt is pathetic at best and will not due in my book, as I am sure many others will agree. I hope this does not come off as though i am not grateful for the new feature addition, however, you cannot sit here and tell me that someone in the apple design team did not mention on how feature lacking this application management was at the time of creation. This is SO un-apple.

I agree - yes, this is better than just doing it on the iPhone/iPod Touch itself, but there is so much more potential. Perhaps (hopefully) additional options will be made available for App organization (e.g sort by name, category, etc.) in future iTunes updates.

Confirming its letting me do the same - just tried it with a 3 gig movie I did for my AppleTV (default AppleTV settings in handbreak). YEAH!

Perfect, do you know what those settings are so I can try it out with Cucosoft?

How do I see which songs/albums are iTunes Plus? I can't find the small plus sign anywhere.. And why have they removed the shopping cart?

At this point, everything in the iTunes store should be Pluse, so there's no need for them anymore.
