All mine I have checked work. I use the default Handbreak. Im going to try one with with just 5.1 and see if thats the problem (I have both in all my rips - Im just guessing that may be the problem).

Okay just did a check on a file - to sync an AppleTV encoded movie to the iPhone 3GS it must have audio that is not only 5.1 (it can have 5.1 as long as it also has the 2 channel audio.)

One rip with 5.1 audio only - no sync to iPhone
One rip with 5.1 and AAC two channel audio - syncs to iPhone and plays

I was just trying out CoverFlow in iTunes 9.0 to browse though my applications (kinda useless since you can't really do anything with them on your Mac) and it occurred to me:

Why not have CoverFlow for your apps ON the iPhone?

Better yet why not let you actually USE YOUR IPHONE APPS on your desktop machine in iTunes!!!

THAT would be cool !

Just you wait my friend, when that silly Tablet thingy Mr. Jobs is developing finally comes out, you will get your wish and be able to spent countless hours with " iFart " .......RIGHT FROM THE COMPUTER !!!!

$1.29 for a ringtone? That I could make myself in Garageband without paying an extra cent? This is obviously a 'lets screw over the Windows users' decision by Apple.

Which, of course, I'm perfectly fine with. ;)

Anyone else who can't edit the width of the ratings list? It's way to large here. Sucks.

The files it wouldn't sync for me have 5.1 and stereo, oddly enough it was a series that was all ripped from the same DVD and it synced 1 episode but said the others could not be played on the iPhone. Will have to poke with the files tomorrow see if I can figure out the problem.

Although it seems a fair bit faster it also feels very unfinished.

3 examples from the Sync Music dialog alone

In the iPhone Sync Music there seems to be no way to deselect all artists which is going to be somewhat important if you don't want to have to scroll through thousands of artists to find the ones you chose last time but no longer want. Conclude: Scary for those with big libraries
Solution: Add a deselect all option.

For this you just command-click a selected checkbox to deselect all of them. And vice versa.

I can make ringtones on my Win7 machine without paying a cent...

I decided to give it a go. I copied my iTunes 8 app file, along with my .pls and zipped them up before install. Good thing too because iTunes 9 was on my computer all of 2 minutes.

Immediately I found myself not liking it. After the install Genius magically turned on. When I went to disable it I got a dialog box saying I needed to install safari in order to finish the request. Screw that. Safari sucks and there is no reason for it on my computer. I really did not even get to find other complaints, just right off the bat.

The iTunes LP is useless (To me) I currently have a bunch of "Booklets" that came with my purchases, and I have been thinking about deleting those as they just take up space. I have never once looked at one.

The whole library sharing is barely different from what we have been able to do for a long time. What would have been nice is the ability to share your home library while your out and about.

The interface is hard on the eyes. I did not go to the iTMS yet, but that looks like it is also going to be hard to look at.

I had a feeling I should stay with 8, I should not doubt myself.

iPhone app organization feature doesn't work with iPhone 3.0

i won't upgrade to 3.1 as i want to keep tethering.

iPhone app organization feature isn't there...
just a redesigned app window..without the 10 or 11 home screens....

I wish I had backed up my iTunes 8. I just tried to download and install it but it's telling me I can't do it since I already have 9 installed. :(

Installed in on my comp, and Zero problems. Only complaint, is that they moved the Views clicker onto the right side. Other than that, I like it, and the store, though I miss the "Just for you" section, its still nice.

It's funny how people have vastly different reactions to the same things.

Many of these changes I have been wanting for a long time. People often don't like change but I think once they get over the adjustment they will embrace this new direction.

I was doing annoying manual file copying all last week to get my multiple computers' iTunes libraries in similar states. If only I had have thought to wait for this new release. Home sharing will be great for me, as I have two Macs that I constantly swap music between and my wife's PC that would also be nice to access when I want some of her music.

The change in switching to the mini-player, while annoying for the minority of people who bother to use the mini-player, is going to be a god-send for the rest of us.

Unlike most I love the white background too. It makes everything a lot cleaner.

iTunes LP is in my opinion a smart move. I was one of the people who was resistant to move to iTunes-purchased music over CDs because of the album content, but now there is no reason not to get all my music from iTunes. For some (admittedly not a majority) it also gives iTunes an added appeal over purchasing music from a competitor like Amazon. Sure, maybe you won't look at it much after the first time (or even at all); but comparing it to record and CD collections, I've found it is always nice to go back over your collection and re-experience these sorts of album extras. Similarly for movies on iTunes: the new special features will make me seriously consider switching from purchasing DVDs.

I have just recently been getting in to using Genius, and this new improvement is probably going to see me use it a lot more.

The app organisation is nice, although I've always mostly managed my app purchases and organisation on my iPhone. It just means now I can also do it on my Mac.

The new iTunes Store design is also welcome. The old way was greatly outdated and difficult to navigate. There still doesn't seem to be as easy a way to get movie trailers as with Front Row, which I would like, but I haven't looked too closely yet so maybe that is improved.

I probably won't use the social networking integration stuff, but I know a lot of people who will. Just because I don't use a feature doesn't mean it sucks for everyone.

The Wishlist is another feature that will surely see more sales for the iTunes store. I use the wishlist in Amazon a lot so this is another welcome change for me.

In short, this is probably the version of iTunes I have been most excited about for a long time.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who is turned off by the new UI.

My first thought upon launching itunes and seeing the main part of the screen go white was that I was waiting for a texture to load.. Waiting.. Waiting Waiting. What? Noooo.

I mean seriously, if it's not broke don't fix it.

I can live with most of the UI, but seriously? White?! When contrast is king, fine, I can live with it - for mostly text, and that was what they had done in the past. But for photos\album art? Seriously? I mean all the ilife apps and pro apps use grey .. And if we're talking consistency, why all of a sudden go to white? I don't think it fits with the rest of the UI at all.

I'm not a fan of the buttons either, but I could live with them - they're not what I'm usually focused on, but they look like polystyrene balls or something, or as someone else said... Eggs. The volume slider also reminds me of one of those slide-bolt style locks.

I suspect that was not exactly what they were going for.

Here's to hoping that there's a way around this.

You could do that before. I thought that now you could transfer the stuff from one library to another.

Yes. You can do exactly that. You can listen to another users music plus transfer their music to your computer. Must be authorized and must fill out your itunes account info to turn the feature on. Plus their is a button that will show you what songs you do not have from their library in your library.

The thoughts about UI and everything is fun to read but can someone explain home sharing a little more?

I just copied few tracks that I ripped on a windows based desktop to my macbook.

There is a 5-user limit per itunes account but is this the only restriction?

I can't seem to figure out how reorganized my homescreens on my iPhone. I go to the applications tab in itunes with my phone attached, but I don't see the homescreens.

Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: NEVER MIND! Apparently you have to be on 3.1 for these features to work....which I'm not. Probably will wait a day or so for the the Apple server traffic to slow down....as usual.

Not liking the UI one bit. The iTunes Store now looks like a mess.

Just one question though: how do you enable social networking? And I guess they left out Last fm?

You're so cool! Care to tell us more of the things you don't like?

As for the integration, I'm glad they didn't go overboard. They could have easily made another iLike fiasco.

Look, stating my opinion on a new development is my right. I don't care for this social networking garbage. If you like twitter and think it improves your life....good for you. The " your so cool " comment is passive aggressive and kind of makes me think you love everything Apple no matter what they do.

I am Not a "fanboy" and would dislike that comment if it were applied to me.

How about you? ...Happy I would guess.

Did you update both iTunes and your iPhone?
