You can swith to the Mini-Player by ALT-Clicking the green button.

But that zoom fuction in iTunes 9 is really dumb, it centers the window, leaving a small gap on the sides and a large gap on the top and bottom. Hovever, the iTunes is covered by the dock (Snow Leopard) which is really stupid.

Ow well, at leas the playlist browser scrolls nicely now and I don't need to hide tha artwork thingy to reach to the bottom playlists.

I totally agree. The green Zoom button has lost functionality...there's no point in centering the window. Before, I would use it all the time to switch to the Mini Player in order to take up less screen space but having to Option-click now is annoying. I also agree with others about the unfinished look of the buttons and the ugly white background in the videos section.

Dude, there is a new gradient and that "dark band" in the display is a gloss effect....

It looks like a gloss effect designed by a 5 year old let loose on Paint for Windows ... it looks like a big dark bar that's not meant to be there.

It runs the full length of the application window, and when you play music the top of the "dark bar" cuts through words, etc ... it's just so untidy.

The look is a little unimpressive - why the subtle changes each revision I don't know. Mini-player on option-green rather than simply green is annoying, but resizing behaviour is thus more consistent with the Windows version, lol.

Link to Windows download offers "64-bit installer" link, which is broken at the mo. Would be nice if the Mac one had 64-bit, whatever that would really mean :).

Download information in mini-player is nice! 41 mins remaining on iPhone update download. Applications pane loads faster, 10x5 fitted grid layout is an improvement.

iTunes Store browsing ... browsing? Seriously they decided that's the best way? No within-genre recommendations on the App Store, just 'page 1 of 694' of games? Damn.

iTunes Dashboard Widget STILL doesn't work, 5 years, two OS X versions and 3 iTunes versions later. Damn.

This is most likely due to the design of Windows. You can't use 32-bit drivers (i.e. the iPhone or iPod) on the 64-bit OS. They probably had to make iTunes all 64-bit just to make iPhone and iPod stuff work on Windows x64.

Well this is fun.
Opened it and it froze up while updating the Library. Now when I try to reopen it I get "The iTunes library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file" WTF?!

So far I am not convinced whether iTunes is worth installing or not, especially because 3 or 4 people here keep saying the app is "FUGLY"...anyone care to provide opinions on a less histrionic basis?

It looks like the future of QuickTime still is unknown. Apparently, QuickTime X for Windows is not ready as iTunes 9 only requires QuickTime 7.

I received this error when installing iTunes 9 on my MB 13" unibody running 10.6 Snow Leopard. The install did finish and say "complete" with the green check mark. Just wanted to see if anyone else had this same problem or what this error means. Thanks guys!

Exactly the same for me. Have tried reinstalling - same error each time

This is going to take some getting used to ...

I wonder if PowerPC Mac users should even bother downloading iTunes 9.

A lot of the new features have steep requirements like 2Ghz Intel Core Duo and every iTUNES update seems to make it more sluggish and more bloated.
With all the the Dual 2.0GHz or faster G5's that Apple sold, I imagine those people are gonna once again be very unhappy camper as Apple continues to support less powerful Intel Macs over their most powerful G5s that were ridiculously expensive.

I upgraded to iTunes 9 on SL and now for some reason it won't recognize my 2G iPhone. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked through Pwnage and not on an official carrier.

Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhoto doesn't recognize it too. What's funny is that Windows XP Pro recognizes it through VMware Fusion and starts up in camera detection mode.

Multitouch

I don't know if this is new, but 3 finger swipes can be used for moving forwards or backwards in the store now. And it seems like multiclutch gestures work now too. This is on SL, and I've only tested it with my Universal Gestures in Multiclutch, not any iTunes specific ones.

Edit: If you set 3 finger swipes left/right to the shortcuts for the next or previous, they only work when you're actually viewing a playlist. In the store, they're still back and forwards. I love this! Makes the update worthwhile for me. I love me some multiclutch! :D

Did anyone else lose their shopping cart? I can't find the option to turn it on.

 Me too! I like the "add to cart" but now I have to click the drop down arrow and then Wish List.

Why is it called Wish List? Shopping cart makes more sense in my opinion. I'm not wishing for them.

Anyway, everything else seems great so far. I'm liking the new layout actually.

I know I'm whining, but . . .

I also got the "library is locked". Did a reset then it worked.

I know I'm whining, but if I bought a movie from itunes in the past (I have spent more than $100 but less than $1000 on them) any chance I can get the itunes extras?

I think the extras are a great move. The "commentaries" are something I really miss from watching movies on itunes instead of DVDs. I hope commentaries are actually included, not just dumb pictures and games, however.

is Coverflow in apps a new feature or has that been there if not pretty snazzy new feature

Arghh, iTunes 9 keeps asking me if I want to allow incoming connections. I say yes, but on next app launch it asks again and so on... very annoying!!!!

Just tried to update my iPhone to 3.1 and after downloading my phone could not be updated. It then went into restore mode! What!!! Anyone else having problems?

Having the exact same problem. My iPhone froze up. I have to do a restore now. So far 3.1 is off to a great start!
