All systems go on my 1.67GHz Rev E PB.

iPhoto is a bit sluggish, but it's always been, especially with over 3,000 photos.

jamesarm97: Not just you. Actually I thought my eject button stopped working at all, although the iTunes eject button worked. Having read your post, mine does work after holding the key down for about a half second. Must be a dummy-proofing for accidentally hitting the eject key? I do admit I've done that a time or two on my desktop keyboard, although it's probly much less likely on a laptop.

24" iMac, no problems so far.

Haven't plucked up the courage to see if it fixes the Airport problems yet though.

Help...

All retail packs are upgrade licenses: you can only legally install Mac OSX on an Apple branded computer and they all shipped with a version of Mac OS on them already so the retail packs are to upgrade these...
ERRRRRR!

And I guess if you wiped the hard drive on your mac, you wouldnt be able to install OS X? Nope not true since I have with a legitimate Tiger copy installed on a blank hard drive. It would be ludicrous if they were all updates, just because all Macs come with OS X doesnt mean they all have them!

Did the update and now my entire computer is much slower. Now more then ever I see the "spinning colored wheel". What gives Apple.???

At last the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT supports rotation!!

Wow!

Finally the NVIDIA drivers have been updated so I can rotate my Dell 24" 90°.

Have been waiting for this a while!

Happy days!!! :) :)

Webcam would not work on iChat anymore

Since updating, my mom could not make her usb webcam work with iChat anymore. It shows that she has a video icon, but anytime I try to call her, I get a declined message, and anytime she tries to call, she is being told that another application is using her webcam.

She runs a Powerbook, has ichatUSB installed.

Grrrrrr

Still No Text Edit Fix (Still No iSub Fix?)

Apple still hasn't fixed that funny error in Text Edit with the display keyboard shortcut for Format > Font > Bigger... generally, the keyboard shortcut in the drop-menu for increasing the font dictates to press Apple "+", but it only works with Apple Shift "+"... silly...

all is working well now... 10.4.9 stroked out the startup on this machine (Core 2 Duo iMac)... super slow start up and it wouldn't get past the first blue screen... after Installer Disc > Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Disk, it's working good (even-though repair disk didn't find anything to fix?)...

the volume on iMac Core 2 Duo 17" 2GHz is much louder too... brings me back to the old days with my iMac G3 400GHz with it's warrior internal speakers... good stuff...

i'm debating digging out my old Harmon Kardon iSub to see if that'll finally work again on it's own (without the presence of other USB speakers)... my poor iSub, the only victim (so far) of the Intel switch...

Just noticed something else...

The speaker volume and the volume of the headphone jack are separate now.
So the OS now remembers what loudness you have for each one.

Sound weirdness

Update has messed with sound on my Mac Pro - first, the update switched the speaker to the internal (not a big deal, just switched it back to line out). Second, and more irritatingly, the sound volume on my bluetooth Apple keyboard does not adjust the volume. I get the nice little speaker image on my screen, and the hash marks move up and down, but no volume change. I can adjust the volume from the sound system preference pane. Third, sound effects only play through the internal speakers, not over the line out. I've tried switching them, to no avail.

I've found that the Xbox 360 web cam works with iChat, but not Photo Booth. I'm not sure if support of this cam is the result of this update though as I had never tried using it until this update.

This ROCKS! Great find! It's perfect for my PowerBook. I plug into SoundSticks/iSub at my desk, and control volume through the speakers with the PowerBook volume all the way up. Then when I take it to class to take notes on, I have to remember to turn the volume down to avoid embarrassment in class. Now the computer will take care of itself, so Apple, it 'just works'.

Oh man -- you don't say! I'm so tempted now to install it...Nah, I think I better wait. Staring at a BSOD in portait mode is cool, but that that cool :D

I never thought I'd be saying this - must be a sign of advancing age - but the sound is too hot. I have the sound setting down to maybe 1/4 and it's way too loud.

Upgrade *license* and upgrade *kit* are two different things.

OSX is a full kit, that means it can install on bare metal - there are no checks for a previously installed version.

An upgrade license, on the other hand, is only valid if you have a previous version of a Mac OS on the system. Since no Mac is shipped with a blank hard drive, having an upgrade license for OSX effectively covers all systems.

(The OSX EULA (http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/macosx104.pdf) doesn't call it upgrade or full, so this is just a rhetorical discussion. OSX is a full kit that can only be installed on systems that have originally shipped with Apple OS software.)

Frontrow problems!

Since the update....

I must have iTunes open before launching frontrow with the remote, otherwise when i click music I just get a loading symbol forever next to the music and eventually have to cmmd+opt+esc to exit frontrow. If I open itunes before starting frontrow I have no problems accessing music.

I think this is a since the update kind of thing. I have only had the computer for a few days and haven't used front row very much so the problem may have persisted before the update. But either way this is still a problem!!

BTW - MBP C2D 2.33 2 GIG RAM

Ha, I forgot that I had to install this update until just now and I don't have my iBook today. Quite funny. I was going to do it last night when I got home, but I just happened to forget. Probably for the better - let other people deal with the problems.

I don't want to speak too soon, but it looks like 10.4.9 might finally have fixed the iMac Airport issues.

Just because it's an upgrade license, doesn't mean the disc is only capable of performing upgrades. Obviously, it's possible to do a clean install. That's true of many "upgrade" packages out there, including MS Windows (simply mentioned as a benign example!!).

It's just that in this case, there's simply no distinction between an "upgrade" retail package and a "original install" retail package. By definition, if a machine is legally capable of running Mac OS X, it will have already had an original Mac OS license intrinsically bestowed upon it -- any Apple-branded operating system you place on it subsequently must, by definition, be an upgrade.

According the the accompanying documentation, that is a new feature of 10.4.9. Apparently, many users had complained of unintentional ejections on Apple's notebook models. However, a number of users on this forum do not seem to like this new feature.

BTW, the update installed on my MB with no problems.
