Interesting... Has anybody else's Mac started to run cooler after the 10.5.4 update?

i think mine does, esp my macbook pro. i dont hear the fan sound much often since the 10.5.4 update. i installed it on my mac pro too but didnt feel a difference .

by the way since you're from egypt like me, would you happen to know about any new news of the iphone3g from vodafone or mobinil. any estimated iphone or plan prices. whats weird is both vodafone and mobinil dont even say anything about the iphone in their websites

1st day evening downloading is slow. this indicates to me that for future software updates for a variety of products, which must necessarily occur in concurrent waves, Apple needs 2-8x more telco bandwidth. Does that technology even exist on this planet? Much less in Cupertino in the former Worldcom "world class" data center?

I am actually not a full-blooded Egyptian. I have Polish, Egyptian, Jew, Celtic and Mongolian ancestors. I am a very mixed person. It's the Egyptians that fascinate me the most out of my ancestry.
I actually live in United States right now but someday I want to move to Australia or Italy (something is attracting me to those places). I would like to visit Egypt from time to time too. :)

So sorry, I don't know anything about those plans. I am just fascinated with Ancient Egypt though.
Sorry for off-topic.

By the way, my Mac does run cooler after 10.5.4 update.

and don't start attacking peoples grammar to prove a point you could of done without doing so.

Haha, he said "could of." Kind sir, I think the words you are looking for are "could" and "have." "Could of" does not make sense.

As my buddy Keith Olbermann would say, "Goodnight and good luck."

Does not list ARDAgent vulnerability as fixed - still gives everyone root access with no programming skills needed.

Same here...although I now get this error in the console after running the whoami check:

Jun 30 22:08:54 com.apple.launchd[78] ([0x0-0x4b04b].com.apple.RemoteDesktopAgent[553]): Check-in of Mach service failed. PID 553 is not privileged: com.apple.RemoteDesktop.agent

10.5.4 here...

my cpu seems to be idling much lower.

used to be about 54, now it says 44c

interesting.

My temps are lower too, but it also sounds like the fan is running at a higher RPM than normal. Eg, I usually don't hear the fan at idle, but I sort of hear a low hum now.

Maybe the iPhone update IS coming tomorrow. Here's my idea:

Perhaps July 11th is a massive typo and they meant July 1st and they hit the one twice on accident. That's what I'm hoping for. Anyways... I already reverted my iPod touch back to non-jailbreak state so that the 2.0 update won't kill it. Wooh! Go me!

Anyone notice any other bug fixes besides the stuff they listed? Does Call of Duty 2 now work correctly with the nVidia 8800 GT?

This may not be related at all, but I had my first ZFS-related crash after installing the 10.5.4 update. The crash occurred with ZFS build 117 immediately after connecting some external eSATA drives, one of which had a ZFS volume on it.

Ugh. I got to the "install screen" And it was just staying at "preparing install" or something like that for over 15 mins. Did a hard restart and here I go again.

Wish me luck.

I just updated my Macbook from 10.5.2 using the Combo Updater and all is well so far. After a couple of reboots it seems faster than normal booting up.

EDIT: Of course, I made a clone with SD! first like I always do before OS updates, just in case anything goes wrong.

Has anyone who has updated noticed a problem with iChat video timing out, as someone mentioned earlier?

Like thousands of others, my Macbook WiFi has steadily died such that it no longer works at all. So I greeted 10.5.4 with enthusiasm. After re-starting, not only have Apple failed to fix the WiFi problem (I am typing this using my emergency 3G USB dongle from Vodafone here in the UK), but I cannot sync with my Nokia N95 8G anymore and the iSync application will not run! It just sits there in the dock, and when clicked in the apps folder, won't run either.

You write that as thought it's affecting all MacBooks equally. Or do you think that Apple targeted your particular machine?

It really sucks when our high-priced machines don't work as expected, but there's a lot more to them the just the software supplied by Apple. You need to look at all factors. MacBooks are known for having excellent wireless reception. If yours doesn't then there's something off with your particular machine. Get it checked. Did you buy the extended warranty, or are you cheesed because you didn't?

i have safari 4 on my macbook (i downloaded it from the apple developer connection site). will having safari 4 mess things up?

You're a registered developer, but you don't know the answer to a question like that? Are you a student developer?

Generally, more recent versions of a particular application will *not* be replaced by an earlier version. v3.1.2 will not overwrite your installed v4.0
