10.5.4 hasnt fixed my Airport drop-outs again :(

Hey mate, are you sure you're not having non-OS related issues... like the wrong channel on the b/g radio causing drop-outs?

BTW, has anyone noticed any difference between 10.5.3 and 10.5.4..?
I assumed 10.5.4 would be the "MobileMe-enabled" update... can't find traces anywhere..

I'm new to the Mac OS (got my first mac last year) but does Apple release so many updates normally? I mean Leopard hasn't been out a full year and there are already 4 updates, with another one coming on the 11th. Everything on preferences is still .mac and still with 10gb of storage, so they have to come out with another update, making it 5.

I doubt they're going to release .5 on the 11th. No doubt they'll "activate" MobileMe by then, but I doubt they'll release a software update that quickly after this one just for that. Even if they do release a software update, I doubt it would be a 10.5.5 update... it would probably just be something in Software Update like "MobileMe Update".

They keep the 10.5.x updates for system/bug fixes and security issues...

Anyone who relies on their Mac to run their business would be stupid to update quickly. Some updates break software or hardware compatibitility.

Several times in recent years Apple has released a Quicktime or Final Cut update that breaks compatibility with either Kona or Blackmagic hardware (very popular video cards) and those companies advise their customers not to upgrade until they write new drivers.

If a post-production house loses their computers for a day they stand to lose several hundred thousand dollars at a minimum. That's hardly a "delusion."

It depends what your business is.
We were on Leopard the day after it came out at my work and point releases are applied the day they come out.

Never any problems in our graphic design agency.

Just got done doing a little digging and this update does indeed add MobileMe support:

Library>Mail>AccountTypes>com.apple.builtin.mailaccounts>MailAccounts.plist has all they underlining strings for the accounts:)

I suspect that there will be a silent update that modifies the system string along with iTunes 7.7 to make all the logo's etc go live.

Nope, didn't fix Airport dropout issue...*sigh* yari yari yari :( looks like Tiger will remain my main OS

$9.99 usd for the download + $0.05 per MB

Hey, for those of you who have already downloaded the update ...

If you're in Canada, how much do you have to pay for the download (we're in Canada, so based on recent events I'm just assuming we'll have to pay extra) ...

Also, how much will this cost iPod touch owners?

Please advise ... :p

/e.

Don't worry about it. As a proud iPod Touch owner, you will only have to pay $9.99 usd (we'll I think that 9.99 CDN is more, but we are being charitable here)

As for the download itself. it will only be $ 0.05 x MB after the first 10 MBs. So the total cost will be around $2,500 usd.

Great deal huh!?

:D:D

If this update actually makes Leopard usable (No, it was NOT usable by my standards up to this point) I may consider going back to it. I've got a bootable Leopard partition on my external HDD, just need to clone it to my iBook's HDD. That is, if this update actually fixes everything. (Unlikely.)

This isn't Windows :)

Never any problems.

Hang out in some Final Cut forums sometime. Something "bad" happens to us every couple of months. Yeah, it gets fixed quickly, but why update before the fix comes out?

Edit: And yes, I mentioned the 3rd party hardware, and sometimes that is an issue, but sometimes these things are conflicts between Quicktime and Final Cut...both products made by Apple!

I hope this fixes the issue I had with my MacBook going to sleep. It only goes if I tell it to. I have it set to go to sleep after 30 min. of inactivity but it never does; the screen just turns off. Anyone else have this problem in .3? The only programs I usually have open are Mail and Firefox.

I don't think this is a generic OS X problem. It is a problem with the software installed on your MacBook. If possible get it into an Apple Store and ask a genius about it. Even though there are no obvious programs running that would prevent sleep there might be a background process (use Activity Monitor to look for these) preventing sleep or perhaps a corrupt preference file. Try creating a new account. Log out of all other accounts. Log in to the new account and see if it sleeps on its own.

Judge for yourself, the updates are at the bottom.

Still on 10.4.11

One of those people who think they're being oh so much smarter and more cunning than the rest of us by not updating because as we all know every Apple update leads to armageddon and total meltdown. Let them live with their delusions.

Seems a bit uncalled for. I'm still running 10.4.11 on my 2.16 MacBook Pro because Leopard seems like nothing but a bunch of bells and whistles and headaches, none of which I need.

I bought Leopard about a month back in anticipation of 10.5.3--hoping it would resolve the airport/CS3/"dark screen" issues, but it didn't, which is why I'm still with 10.4. It looks like 10.5.4 addresses most of these things--the first two--but I've not yet seen the last problem discussed, which would finally seal the deal for me. Luckily, I spent $20 on Leopard because I get academic pricing, and so if the problems aren't all fixed, I won't be too annoyed to have to skip Leopard altogether and go with SnowLeopard, if it truly does fix the problems as a "stability update."

I actually think I'm a lot smarter (than I was yesterday and the day before) because I read these threads, and I'm very grateful that others who upgrade take the time to discuss the issues, as opposed to thinking I'm "smarter... than the rest of us."

So... thanks much.

How about turning the clock to the 11th or 12th. That will shut all you .Me speculators up I hope. This thread is extremely useless.

I worked at Apple, and most people did not want to buy .Mac. In fact, about 20% of sales was the average. Explain to me why you all are interested here, when the company average is around 20%.

There's probably going to be a 5 MB update when it's officially launched with some pics and a new pref pane. Let's hear more about user experience and bugs with this new version instead of speculation, go elsewhere for that (another thread would suffice).

I'm switching back to 10.5.3

You may want to give it some time... my machine was slow for the first 10-15 minutes and now its just as fast as before (MacBook Pro).
