Give it a minute. My machine ran slow for a bit also but it's fine now. Patience is a virtue. :)

Still waiting for reports?

If you're waiting to install the update until you hear how it went for others, a good place to check is MacFixIt. Give it a day or two for others to report any issues and you'll get a pretty good picture of how it went.

Actually it's also broken the wireless as well. It asks me for my WPA password, which is correct, then won't connect!

My N95 8GB connects though without any problems!!

Thankfully Apple have just posted the combo update online here which i'm hoping will fix everything.

I'm never trusting Software Update again when it comes to a 10.5.x update

Wake me up when the Combo update comes out. Not about the hang my system with Software update.

Edit:
Diaresi, of course, they'd put the link out right after I post ;-)

I'd been waiting, and figured it would done eventually. I checked right before I posted.

I had the really annoying sleep problem... and 5.3 seemed to fix it for me. I haven't had problems with it since. I can put it to sleep, unplug stuff, do whatever, and it doesn't wake with a dark screen. The only wrinkle is that I have lidwake turned off so I have to hit a key to wake it, and if I unplug or plug in any USB or the power cord... it wakes as soon as I open the lid. But at least it doesn't get stuck in the dark screen or "screensaver running in blackout mode" like it used to! The odd time it seems to wake up twice (have to enter password twice to get it awake), but hey - it works!
Hopefully .4 doesn't wreck it again... (.1 and .2 kept wrecking things...)

Just a thought... Do you have SideTrack installed?

Uh, dude... you're using an 1.33GHz iBook? I'm shocked even Tiger runs smoothly on that thing anymore! Newer systems require newer hardware to run properly, that's just the way it goes. I can say with 100% certainty that Leopard runs great on all 7 machines I or my office has purchased in the past 2 years.

There's no reason why Tiger shouldn't run smoothly on an iBook 1.33
Tiger was sold with my iBook 1.33!

Nope, didn't fix Airport dropout issue...*sigh* yari yari yari :( looks like Tiger will remain my main OS

What exactly is this "airport issue" that so many people have been complaining about? I've never had any problems with Airport on any of my Macs.

Is there a web page that describes this issue in detail? It seems weird that Airport works so well here, but there are so many people complaining.

Maybe it's incompatibility with some specific hardware? Maybe everyone having airport problems should tell us what access point(s) you are using to see if there's any correlation.

All is well again

After another restart I'm back to my usual one minute start up ... look even a sorta bad day with an apple is far better than a minute on vista

I find it funny that people have such weird misconceptions of software/hardware relations. My PBG4 1.5gHz runs Leopard perfectly... let alone if I had Tiger installed.

Apple is pretty good at "allowing" newer versions of OSX to run on older hardware (obviously, this might change with Snow Leopard, but even that's speculative at this point). My 800mhz iMac G4 (the "lamp" style) is running Tiger Server with no problems.

Airport since 10.5.2 has been so slow and drops connections like crazy. at best i think i have been getting 1mb/s connection to my network or any network since then ...

have not tested with 10.5.4 yet will try l8r

I had an airport problem on and off for ages, my last solution was to change channels on the router, works a treat now.

After installing Mac OS 10.5.4 on both of my Macs, I did notice them to be a little snappier. Even websites load faster on Safari. Also, maybe this is my imagination but better image quality too.

Made it through. A-OK.

I made it ...barely.

I updated through Apple Software Update. Downloaded ok, and started installing okay, but then the screen went to the Aurora screen and nothing else. I know that I should not have done the next thing, but I turned off/on my iMac.

I then checked the software update again and it said my software is uptodate.

I had problems with 10.5.3. as well. Had to go to the Apple/downloads for the updates.

Oh well...it's all right now.
