It took about 30 minutes to download the update (probably due to using a wireless network) and about 10 minutes to perform the installation on my 2.4 uMBP. The system rebooted twice, just as others are pointing out, and I havent had any problems yet. I did not see anything new under the Energy Saver drop-down menu though. Its not a big deal since I don't switch too often. I'm wondering if it's because it wasn't something in the unibody OS X build in the first place, so it wasn't included in the update.

I noticed that too. There is a process called "WindowServer" that's using more processor power than it did before.

My computer also seems to be slowing down after about an hour of use.

Windowserver sometimes goes nuts no matter what version of OS X you run. My system temperature is the same after the update.

i just got OWNED by the 5.7 update.

I installed it off of apple's site (because it wouldn't let me through Software Update), installed, then restarted. When it was shutting down the screen alternated between a few shades of blue and a white screen every like 10 seconds for about an hour. I had no other choice but to pull the plug. I tried to boot back up but it wouldn't probably due to corruption so now i am on a PC waiting for my mac to restore Leopard from the DVD. :(

I experienced the same with my Alu IMAC. I shut it off with the power button and then rebooted. The system after rebooted itself 3 times and now it looks OK. Don't know if something is corrupted though but so far so good. This is the first time I experienced issue with an update from Apple...

Ugh

Well, my Spotlight issue is a minor thing (seems like its not misbehaving anymore) compared to some others but I'm wondering what else is wrong.

Oh, and I don't know what's going on with the Profiles under power management. I DO have it and I'm on an early 2008 MBP sans 2 video cards so take that for what it's worth.

Even though I had a mostly painless update and things look like they're running okay, I'd advice everyone who hasn't updated already to hold off for the moment while things sort themselves out.

When I recheck for more updates, I was told safari 4 has one. So I checked install the software updater beach balled so I forced quit. When I tried to update again the update wiget just bounced! This happened 2 times. Right click to force quit again and restart. When I did try and restart my dock/menu bar drops away as usual but it apparently got stuck on my desk top for some reason. So I had to power button of and restart! I'll try again and update here. This is a first for me.

Log files from the system hanging

So I seem to have the same issue , where the system is pretty much in a loop after the install. I cannot ssh in, no vnc but I was lucky enough to pull out my xp laptop and connect to the a share on my mac.

I grabbed the system.log now at 64Megs but here is where its stuck, i am going to just let it go and see what happens.

I had one issue

I downloaded the 10.5.7 update through Apple's website because the software updater was taking hours! After the install, I needed to reboot my Mac. During reboot, it just showed a light blue screen with the mouse pointer. So after 5 minutes, nothing happened so I had to force shut down my Mac by pressing the power button. After that, everything went fine already. I had a double reboot before it showed my desktop.

Maybe there is a pattern here. This is a question to people with Unibody MacBook Pros: After updating, do you have profiles under power management in the finder? I do not.

no problems

I just updated my 4 machines! including 2 iMacs - 1st gen Intel, and last gen, santa rosa MBP and old ibook G4, and it all went flawless! I wonder if apple has changed anything, but no problem in any mac so far!
I got the power profile switching on my MBP right after the first boot!

Updated two Macs - an original Intel iMac and a Dec 08 MacBook Pro unibody. Two more Macs to go.

No problems, except I too don't get the energy profile options in the battery menu. I thought it might have been because 1) I had System Preferences locked ... no, still don't get it or 2) I was running a non-admin account ... no, an admin account still doesn't show the options.

Quick download and smooth install on my 2.4 aluminium MacBook. No problems thus far.

has anyone noticed on a reboot, their lcd flickers on the left and right side of the screen? not sure if it's related to this update. happens on alum macbook.
Nope, just rebooted it to check, but no flicker anywhere on the screen.

The flickering issue caused by Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI still persists... When will APPLE fix this??

My safari 4 update went flawlessly. So far so good. It was a scary moment! Considering I just had my HD replaced!

seems the Intel GMA X3100 drivers have been updated...

I guess i am the only one with GMA X3100 graphics, but I do believe that this is the first driver update for this Intel on-board video chipset for the Mac OS in quite some time.

Many have rightly said that this Intel video could do much better if it had better drivers for it, especially on OS X where the drivers where somewhat behind.

I just played a bit of Nexuiz, a free FPS that is somewhat graphics intensive. It seems to me that the GMA X3100 is performing VASTLY BETTER than before...

Help please

Updated my MBP using the standard 'Software Update'. After the update and reboot, I recevied this on the screen.

MacGrab.jpg

Now the machine will try to boot up, then shuts down.
It gets as far as the 'Apple' and the spinner, then shuts down.
Thx :)

If you are using Safari 4 Beta after installing 10.5.7, then yes, there is an update to the browser. To my knowledge it is not included in the initial update.

updated my white Macbook 5 minutes ago using Software Update. Went fine, power profiles are now thankfully back in the menu bar.

I never have automatic updates enabled. I update only when I want to. That avoids any early glitches and also avoids forcing an update when I really don't want to go through the process.

Safari Freaking 4!!!

I made the switch to Safari from FF3 after the beta was released. And now it seems that the bugs are getting worse and worse.

-The URL loading bar sometimes doesn't finish even if the page is loaded

-Images only show up about 75% of the time

-And MY BIGGEST ANNOYANCE!!!
When I restart Safari it always puts in the "Add Bookmark" button and the "Add to Evernote" button(which I don't even have a freaking account for!!!) What makes things even dumber is that the Evernote button has worked it's way into the default toolbar set. But of course, that doesn't matter because even if it was in the default set, THEY SHOULDN'T AUTOMATICALLY MAKE THE DEFAUL SET DEFAULT IF I'VE CHANGED IT!

I'm pissed @ Apple right now...:mad::mad::mad:

Apple Mail

Mail still doesn't hide when set to open and hide on login :(

I have had no problems. Downloaded the combo for MBP and SU for MP. Neither are problematic. Both took time to install, like it should, then restarted twice.

For those of you interested, I do think Logic is running a little bit better now, not that it was ever bad :D

Installed it using SU...took about 5 minutes and i managed to get 4-finger gestures back afterwards (10.5.7 takes it away) on my early 08 MBP. No noticeable difference thus far. However anyone know how i can remove this eject icon from the menubar?

Move menu bar icons

Most applications that install icons in the Mac OS X menu bar allow you to move or delete those icons by using a simple key and drag command.

Hold down the (Alt/Option) key and click and drag the icon you would like to move.

If you want to delete the icon, move it off the menu bar and let go of the mouse button.

The above was a text clipping from MacFixIt, and the following is, too.

Create text clippings

Create a text clipping by highlighting the text you would like to use. Click and drag the highlighted text to the desktop. The resulting file will automatically copy to the clipboard when double-clicked, making it ready to paste into documents.

Thanks as well

Press cmd and drag the icon out. it'll puff away. it might be alt instead of cmd, i can't remember which.
