Ok looks like i need to reinstall. Does Archive and Install save all my files and data, like everything on my hard drive?

Upgrade Pains

As with any update (from Apple or not), a backup in advised. I never backup until I've had my external take a snap shot of my HD with Time Machine.

anybody having this issue?

I have an Airport Extreme with an external USB drive hooked up to use for Time Machine with my macbook. Seems that this update broke that. When it tries to do a backup, it just stays stuck on "preparing backup". I'm not happy.

You have a backup already though, right?

I have a Mac - I don't get viruses, and I don't need to backup. :D

Just kidding - of course I have multiple backups, including some of them offsite.

It's a matter of when your disk(s) will fail, not if your disk(s) will fail. Your backup disk(s) will fail too.

I've just found that more often than not around here when something goes tits up people are caught without a backup.

Even Time Machine.

Hurry up Snow Leopard

I'm holding off for this one...
At least until we get some feedback about the...possible effects of .8 :(

Me too.... I haven't had any issues except for bluetooth but nothing major. All this update is, usb support and bluetooth with some safari history fixes. TO me sounds nothing but a waste of my time.

I will wait to see if it's stable or not, with feedback hopefully people will start to post some when they encounter problems.

How long have you left it at "preparing backup" for? A system update updates a lot of files and Time Machine will take a long time to prepare that backup. For me it was 1.5Gb of files to backup after the update, so it'll take a while.

i suppose i've left it for ten minutes. i'll leave it for now and not touch it. what has me concerned is that it never gets to the point where it says preparing "x.x mb" or whatever. it just says 'preparing backup'. is that normal?

My wife's laptop was at "preparing" for about 20 - 30 mins. It's backing up now, 1.3Gb. Mine didn't take too long, not that long, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Two reboots after the installation and back to the loginwindow. Nothing to see here and move along.

I really hope that everyone has it is easy as that and not stuck doing an Archive & Install or restoration.

Updating Intel MacPro hung for 2 hours

Force quit and now getting:

Panic "Version mis-match between Kernel and CPU PM"

I am freaking out.

Upgrade my Intel MacBook Pro with no problems.

It takes a while...

I have a f/w 800 TM backup drive, and it was "preparing" the first backup after 10.5.8 for at least 25-30 minutes, and then a while to actually do the backup. IIRC it was 2.6GB for me as I installed the combo update. Have patience...:)

it's backing up now. patience has never been one of my strong points. and add to it the fact that my wife is pregnant with our first and she's due any minute, i'm a little edgy:eek:

Cool! Congrats on the smooth backup and CONGRATS on the almost-here baby! Here's hoping everything goes smoothly with that as well.

Yes. Me too. I was just looking at that before the upgrade and it was not there. Now it is. I wonder what good it will do there?

Anybody else see a new Motion Sensor in System Profiler under Hardware Overview. Can't remember if it was there or not!

Motion sensor has always been there but the other one hasn't

I figured I would have been the first one to notice this... something tells me this has something to do with hackintoshes...

Interesting...could very well be

everything is super laggy and slow after this install. Am I the only one?

It updates the boot cache...might be the reason. Give it some time. Either that or your permissions have been screwed up.

Airtunes doesn't work now.

Ok now my airtunes doesn't work after installing update. Any suggestions?

2 iDisk icons!

Hey everyone,
I updated to 10.5.8 few hours back. Now, I have two iDisk-type logos in my Finder sidebar (one saying 'iDisk' and the other with my username). Are they both different? Which one should I use to sync to the real iDisk? And how do I remove the other icon?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
