Try it with an aluminium or magnesium Dell and you'll still be at 70%.

Dell puts plastic windows by the radio antennae so that you'll get good reception regardless.

I know for a fact that Powerbook and Macbook Pro's up until the Unibodies had plastic "windows" as well. In powerbooks I believe it was on the sides of the display, and on the MBP's it was in the hinge mechanism for the display. Not sure about the uMBP's, but I don't see why apple wouldn't continue this trend. Their engineers are sure to know as good as everyone that metal of most kinds is a poor enclosure to encase a RF antenna in. If they did indeed give up on the "window" then shame on them for deciding such amount of signal loss is "OK"...

IIRC, on the unibodies it's located directly behind the "MacBook Pro" text below the screen. From the back of the computer, it's covered by the plastic hinge.

The application, Smart Scroll no longer works. Which is a bummer, that app makes scrolling so much easier. (makes scrolling like the iPhone).

I bet there are lots of people preparing to comment "What's Apple going to do next? It's their last chance of getting Leopard fixed because after 10.5.9 they run out of numbers!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!?!!???!?!?!?"

There is no joking about that. It is impossible to have 10.5.10! That would wake and anger Mathematics from its peaceful sleep and make the Universe implode!

Just updated mine too, 1/2 hour 165MB with Hughes.net, satellite sucks 1Mb/sec. Can only use 200MB per 24 hours except between the hours of 2:00 am and 7:00am, unlimited between those hours. So I am up late, took about 5 minutes to reboot but all is well so far.
Can't wait for Snow Leopard. Wonder if we will get real SNOW first in Michigan.

Good luck to all.

I started installing from updater... it froze so I stopped, clicked start again and it picked up where it left off... Before restarting when it installed itself, about halfway through the harddive got noisy which is the first time since I had the machine. - what gives, so much problem with an update that apparently doesnt have much?

Peace

dAlen

I just successfully got done with the update. Upon restarting I immediately noticed a richer display on my 13" MBP, its no longer washed out. Blues are purple no more!

This update is incredible!
I noticed too my colours were different and didn't run, my PowerBook 520 runs 13 times faster, the hole in my car door is now welded shut and I got a cheque in the post off Bill Gates for 5000 guineas!

Can't wait for 10.7!

I think this has fixed the brightness problem on my iMac.
Before, if I turned down the brightness and restarted the computer it would reset to default brightness, but now it stays low. Awesome ... finally. :D

EDIT: No it actually hasn't been fixed ... :(

My Macbook Pro (late 2008) crashed during the update installation (told me to hold the power button). After reboot the Trackpad lost all of its extra functions, including Tap-to-click, two/three/four finger click/tap and two-finger scrolling.

Yeeha... :apple:

I know it's not important, and we all saw this coming... But I like it when Apple follows through on something, and I was sick of the pink icon on my desktop.

Now I just wish Apple would realize that a lot of us have a finder app that freezes the desktop so icons cannot be moved/selected. (Maybe the rewrite for Snow Leopard will fix that).

actually, i think the lube icon sucks.

the pink one was much better because it doesn't blend with the folders, now I need to find a way to change it back to pink ... or black or red or something that stands out :(

I know it's probably too late for anyone to see this or someone might have already said it, but the larger Combo update (700+MB) is always a safer bet. I've had many problems with software update and the smaller update files and Apple's "fix" was to use the larger combo update.

Alright, I read many pages but just noticed this so if it's been said, sorry, I missed it. My 13" MBP much more transparency on the menu's and in list view in Stacks. THANKS APPLE. :D. I hated it when they took away the transparency in 10.5.2.

One, 3 weeks after Leopard was released (and one day before 10.5.1 came out). That was the only numbered release Apple has made to an old version of OS X after the release of a newer version.

Let's hope Apple continues to update Leopard with some of the Snow Leopard BUG FIXES.

Both INTEL and POWERPC users paid the same $129.

Otherwise, I think about a third of the Apple fanbase is going to be quite ticked off when Apple releases Snow Leopard for $29 and tells PowerPC users to go F themselves.

Nope. Try it with a plastic Dell and you'll bet at 70% signal strength.

This is a known issue with all aluminum MacBooks. The strength is weak. That said, I think it had more to do with the Apple drivers and TCP/IP code, and it certainly seems fixed in this version.

I've tested with Dells, Lenovos, a PS3 and plastic mac books.

I loved my Lenovo Thinkpad; if I had the option of an Apple supported installation of Mac OS X on a Thinkpad - I'd ditch this MacBook immediately. Wireless reception I found with the Thinkpad is always great.

Mind you, I have a white plastic MacBook and never experienced the issue; its an issue in the case of the unibody MacBooks where Apple put fashion ahead of functionality.

But, how could it could be a 'known issue' if - for instance I don't have this problems

It depends on nature of the network set up; there are those who have super reliability and others who struggle to get a signal on the other side of the house. There is alot of voodoo when it comes to reliability - I'm tempted to get a powerline networking kit for my desktop where the router is upstairs and keep my laptop on the wireless.

I updated last nite, and it has worked great so far. It apparently fixed my 'Airport dropping' issue, which is awesome! Prior to the update it would drop soon after I lifted my MBP a couple of inches off the desk, and when I placed it back on the desk it would work again. It was really annoying because if I wanted to have my MBP lifted I'd have to use the Ethernet cable, but now I guess that's fixed!

Apple Update didn't let me repeat the installation (version was already upped to .8) so I tried the smaller standalone download package. This time there was no crash and the Trackpad is working again.

Why should anyone care about powerpc users; they've had three years to shift - they've failed to do so.

Telling one third of your user base to go F themselves is probably NOT a good idea in the worst economy in all of our lifetimes.

DUH.
