Unlikely. Repeated kernel panics are a good indicator of a hardware problem.

hahaha come on now... shut up about that. if I keep telling myself it is a software issue than eventually it will come true :p (and be fixed by the god that will be SL :D)

Seriously though, I do NOT want to think about the possibility of having to replace my Macbook (or even just the CPU for that matter) right now. Luckily for now resetting the SMC (removing battery and holding down power button) will let it boot just dandily after a kernel panic... hooray for band-aid fixes lol

If you've been having that many kernel panics then I think you need to go and get your hardware fixed - kernel panics tend only to happen either with faulty hardware or a faulty driver or a combination or both; have up graded your hardware recently (memory) beyond what was installed by Apple?

Yes, I installed 4GB of Crucial memory back in April. I seem to recall having one before that, though... If it becomes an issue I will downgrade back to the 2GB I had, though I would rather not.

Oh, and same goes for you about talking about my hardware issue :p Please do the right thing and help me to ignore it and make it go away :D

Maybe it's your router or a hardware problem with you :apple: computer?

Just a guess that's all. Never had a single problem with 10.5.7 and wireless range / signal quality / dropouts on my Mid 2009 MBP.

I had Wifi drops regularly with my new router until I downloaded AP Scanner and found that our next door neighbours router was sharing the same channel. I moved it from channel 6 to channel 11 (would have preferred channel 13 but my fathers pathetic Dell can't detect anything above channel 11) and all the problems were solved.

Perhaps the original author you were replying to do should so some trouble shooting before blaming an innocent third party.

My iMac will not reboot after installing this update. It just goes to the blue screen and sits there. I see the little spining loading thingy sometimes. Its been 3 freaking hours and my iMac wont fully start up.

Can someone tell me wtf is going on?

wonderful! as usually My 2009 Macbook restarted perfectly, no particular problems!

Can't wait 'till Snow Leopard!!

Maybe the Hardware UUID will be used during the Snow Leopard Installation to recognize if you have Leopard already installed??

Tomorrow I'm going to update the whole Apple Department in shop to 10.5.8...

120 Copies of Snow Leopard already booked!!

Sounds like you've installed crapware from dodgy third party - what applications do you have installed?

Just so you know, when I said this update, im talking about 10.5.8 which i installed 3 hours ago. As for apps, i dont have any dodgy apps. I dont have very many 3rd party apps.

Sounds like you may have to unfortunately reinstall from the CD then use the combo update...no one is gonna be able to help you from here unless you provide some more info on whats going on.

First impressions, Hmm... might need to roll back.

My boot camp disk shows up on the desktop (didn't before)
The view preferences are lost (was details, now icons)
Can't delete any files off the boot camp partition (could before)...

Thats as far as I got, but not a good sign so far.

Installed on both my MB and the family iMac without any trouble. =) It'd be nice for Leopard to go beyond .10, up to .11 at least since only my MB will get Snow Leopard. My parents are still cautious even after two years and like having security updates. One and a half decades of Microsoft has scarred them... :p

Damn, well what happened was I dowloaded it fine, it seemed to install fine, and when it went to restart it took forever so I figured its just doing its thing, but its been 4 hours so something is wrong.

Have you tried hard booting it by holding the power button for 5 seconds till it turns off then turning it back on again?

About 20 times. Just turns on and goes to the blue screen and sits there. Its doing something i think because that little grey spinning loading thing comes on the screen every 8 seconds, and the mouse pointer shows up and disappears.

I hope that it goes OK.

It's a bad time to be job hunting, especially if your résumé's last line is:

- knocked 120 systems offline by installing an OS update the day after its release, without testing first

Imagine 120 people saying:

Just turns on and goes to the blue screen and sits there. Its doing something i think because that little grey spinning loading thing comes on the screen every 8 seconds, and the mouse pointer shows up and disappears. But its been doing that something for almost 5 hours!

Always, always test your updates first on your own machines before pushing them out.

Unfortunately something went horribly wrong during the update process I would imagine. Some important file becoming corrupt or something...the only thing I can tell you is reinstall from the CD and do the combo update.

Try enabling verbose boot mode. Hold command+v at startup. Maybe seeing where it is hanging up might help...

I really hope that his update fixes the Apple wireless mighty mouse and wireless keyboard drop outs that 10.5.7 had ! Here's hoping that it fixes it !

I figured something went wrong. How do I reinstall from the CD? What do I do?
