I figured something went wrong. How do I reinstall from the CD? What do I do?
pop it in and boot from it. follow the prompts. make sure not to delete anything important

Unfortunately something went horribly wrong during the update process I would imagine. Some important file becoming corrupt or something...the only thing I can tell you is reinstall from the CD and do the combo update.
They might have finally fixed that rotten wifi reception on aluminum macbooks and macbook pros...
Try enabling verbose boot mode. Hold command+v at startup. Maybe seeing where it is hanging up might help...
In other words, you recommend reformatting the C: drive?
I'd love to see this "Mac vs. PC" ad, where "Mac" says "yes, sometimes Macs need to reformat too. Stuff happens.".

I don't think that a minor software update can replace an aluminum casing with one that has an RF transparent port for the radio antennae.
What do I look for in verbose mode? Im getting text on a black screen.
What is the last line of text that you see? Normally it will go through all sorts of text, then go to the login screen. The last item may (i emphasize may) tell us where your computer is hanging and what might be causing the problem...
Try Safe Boot/ModeIt keeps repeating the same text. Its going so fast i cant read it.

Single user mode and read /var/log/system.log?So it just keeps going, and does not stop spitting out text at any point? That is certainly odd. Try taking a picture to see if you can read it, I guess. Not much else I can tell you
edit: do what Eidorian said. that might help. if not, you are more or less hosed. it sucks but you will probably have to reinstall...
Just so you know, when I said this update, im talking about 10.5.8 which i installed 3 hours ago. As for apps, i dont have any dodgy apps. I dont have very many 3rd party apps.
So far I am delighted as this update seems to have fixed my wireless issue. Because I know that the wireless issue is a bit controversial, allow me a to provide a little background to qualify this post.
The wireless connection on my iMac would not work more than about 5 minutes without the connection becoming unusable.
I have 6 other computers, 2 cell phones, and 2 ipods that all work flawlessly on my wireless network. My iMac running OSX would not stay connected. The wireless connection on the same iMac using the same hardware running XP in bootcamp works brilliantly. After doing weeks of research I concluded that there were probably several different wireless "problems" that people encountered but I could not find a solution for my problem. Reference: Good summary
With this update my wireless on OSX now works! So, your wireless problem may not be my wireless problem, but give it a try - there is hope.

Hooray. I've been waiting since 10.5.6, having decided to pass on 10.5.7.
One, 3 weeks after Leopard was released (and one day before 10.5.1 came out). That was the only numbered release Apple has made to an old version of OS X after the release of a newer version.
Ok so Im putting in the Install Disc. Nothing is happening! Ohmygod Im screwed more probably.
Are there any buttons I press when starting it up with disc in?

But you never know now with PPC support gone. Leopard might continue to see updates. Especially, I don't think everyone will be upgrading to Snow Leopard like with Leopard. I would have to say it will be 50% even with Leopard and Snow Leopard.
