I just got off the phone with Buffalo Tech support, setting up my NAS for TimeMachine and the guy there said that this new update, 10.6.4.11, messed with TimeMachine to where it only backs up Videos, Photos, and Documents. Nothing else. Apparently, this is to force people to buy TimeCapsule which bypasses this part of the update. Anyone else hear of this? I know this update is 10.6.5, but he guessed they added more to that update to give it the .5. And he mentioned that his roommate called apple about it. Anyone know anything about this?

No, I haven't. I using a WD Studio with Firewire 800 and and timemachine backs up everything, which I wished it wouldn't. I just need the documents, photos, videos, and a few other folders to be backed up, not all the settings and other junk.

HELLO!??????HELLO?!!!

I have a very important question!!!! Please! I heard this update nerfs TimeMachine to the point it will only backup documents, pictures, videos, and music.

ANY TRUTH TO THIS?

I've heard no such thing. I wouldn't worry about it as it would be a major change and I'm sure Apple would have mentioned it as it would have a negative effect on it's users.

To anyone with AirPrint working:
Did you have a previous build of 10.6.5 installed on your system....

I've got a feeling that the AirPrint libraries remain on the system with the update. So if you've installed a previous beta of 10.6.5 AirPrint works, but coming from 10.6.4 directly only gives Air (without the Printing).

If I'm right, we could extract the AirPrint libraries from a working system and spread the AirPrint-Love....

Play a game and tell us if graphics are indeed improved, or if it just means they combined the last graphics update into this release.

Yeah try some games.
If you have SDL based games try them.
For instance Doom3, Quake4, Prey, Amnesia, Penumbra, etc.

Especially if you have a 27" iMac...

For some reason, my wired Logitech keyboard and mouse are no longer working...

Aaaand just like that, we're back.

Also, Starcraft 2 does not seem to play any better with the update. I have no hard benchmarks, but I couldn't set the settings any higher than they were under 10.6.4 without pretty significant slowdowns.

You can exclude it all, if you want to.

If the update only backed up the documents, pictures, videos, and music, I would be happy. It would save me disk space on my external drive. I have too much as it is. But your question will be unanswered until someone tries it. I dont have a clue. SO, I am in the same boat as you.

I have been running Software Update hourly all day at work and then 19 minutes after I go home it gets released!

So now I have a decision to make. Do I start the download at home on my Sprint card which will take all night or do I go back to the office and download it on the fiber in a matter of minutes?

I think I am going to drive back to the office now! :)

I seriously hope Blizzard's at fault here, but considering their "some features require 10.6.5 so wait for that"-ish statement, I doubt they need to patch it in themselves. It was to my understanding that these features would be enabled when 10.6.5 was installed.

Running Dev Build 10H542 and can't see the final release under Software Update yet...anyone else having this problem?

I've tried downloading the Combo Update from an earlier poster but, although it installs fine, it doesn't seem to have had any effect on which build I'm running...

Any ideas, anyone?

Are they EVER going to fix the fact that when entering Spaces (overview mode) the windows sort of "shrink" into place (not every time, but like 40% of the time). This was never like this in Leopard, it got introduced in SL. It just annoys me!

I'm a Mac user after all, it makes sense that I get pissed off when something isn't smooth and pretty. :)

Of course he doesn't, in the same way he doesn't know what "repair permissions" means... It's ALWAYS recommended to do it before and after any update...you know it

I actually have permission repairing scripted into every piece of software we install before and after. I have seen computers totally hosed fixed with a repair permission.

Same exact problem...don't really know whats going on.

Why doesn't Apple make it so that OS X regularly and automatically repairs permissions?
