I’ve got a late 2017 27” iMac with 2TB Fusion drive. Is it safe to install Big Sur yet? Read some reports that it doesn’t work well with fusion drives? I’m still on Mojave and runs fine.
can't speak to your fusion drive. I have a 2014 MBP with 512 SSD. It is working fine, and has been working fine throughout the developer beta process. Seriously when I see some of these rants about all these "problems", really? comes to mind. I heard one major gripe session about external monitors (just check your color profiles on settings/displays, dah, and make sure color shift is off. - worked for me and quickly). So, not saying there aren't any legitimate problems, just none that impacted me. I seriously wish those who did encounter them would be more specific and do a bit of diagnostic work as to what is the culprit. some people run some crazy crap, that might be a big source of their problems. It seems there were a few issues on M1, but I would expect a few teething pains

Because installing the new shiny from Apple is always measured against how much you want to deal with their incompetence. I ask again, what is in Big Sur that would make anyone want to install an x.2 vs an x.6/.7 ?

For me, it was improved eGPU support. My eGPU worked well in Mojave until it was only receiving security updates, at that point its reliability degraded (don't ask me why, it just did in my case). Catalina did not resolved the issue.

The bonus with Big Sur was updated video drivers.

So like 2 people who still use DVI?

Meanwhile most of us using USB-C are still stuck on ****** YPbPr mode and washed out displays.

Way to go Apple!
I use a DVI-HDMI cable at work for my 2013 MBP. It’s a 24” acer from 2012.
Why upgrade when it still works well?

Alternative to installing through Software Update? Downloads fine, dialog appears to reboot, asks for Admin Password. Admin password correct (all other users logged out), Error appears that Update Cannot install. (M1 Mac mini, Using External Drive for Boot Drive)

Can I do reinstall from Repair Boot and get new version?

Metal performance is significantly better with some AMD cards in Big Sur.

I'd been having really weird performance problems, and video issues on my 2019 iMac (with Fusion Drive) since around when I put Big Sur 11.0 on it. 11.1 didn't fix it, neither did a deep cleanup of the Library folders and an OS reinstall. I was worried I may have a hardware problem, but I wanted to wait for 11.2 until I called Applecare.

I don't want to speak too soon but I just tried stress testing the machine with some photo editing while running a video benchmark app and it appears to be running flawlessly now.

About an hour to download a tiny 4.18GB update. Something's not right.

Please fix the music app.... PLEASE!!!!!!!

It’s the worst version of Music / iTunes I have ever used.

Big Sur Music randomly blanks out the central screen when I’m browsing albums or genres. Imported music tracks are randomly distributed between multiple albums and individual tracks. They removed the New Playlist command from the menu. (facepalm)

This is what Apple gets for outsourcing their most important apps to contractor mercenaries.

Anyway, they really need to bake an Apple TV remote control into macOS. I hate reaching for a remote knowing that my Mac is fully capable of sending Bluetooth and wifi signals through Bonjour.

Broke Safari autofill for me... Autofill is on but when I click to use saved password the box remains empty. I did a recovery and it did not fix the issue. I downloaded Safari Technology Preview and that browser works.

Well, I am pretty sick of this new M1 now. I've had continual problems with it not waking from sleep. For over a month. I am set the Mac mini not to sleep and just have the display sleep. Just about every other day, pressing a key wakes the display momentarily (a $2000 NEC monitor) and then the display goes out again.

I'm gonna get this sent back at this rate, I thought the update would sort this but it's even worse.
