Because installing the new shiny from Apple is always measured against how much you want to deal with their incompetence. I ask again, what is in Big Sur that would make anyone want to install an x.2 vs an x.6/.7 ?

For me, having BS installed was the only way to download the desktop version of GarageBand.

I think that requirement is a pain, with no ability to download the older version, but there ya go.

I've got a 2015 iMac with fusion drive. There has been a boot performance problem since the 11.1 update, that is solved in this update. Now I am fully satisfied with Big Sur and I consider it safe to update, stability has never been an issue.

Even on reboot?

I have 3 Macs all with the issue. The only apps I use are stock apps, iTerm2 and Homebrew.
Updated both a 2013 Mac Pro and a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. I have never seen a kernel panic on reboot. I did have issues with restart on my M1 Mac when connected in clamshell mode to an external monitor. It would hang and never actually finish shutting down but the 11.2 RC update fixed that and I haven't seen it return. Big Sur has been moderately flaky on my 2013 Mac Pro but nothing too out of the ordinary for a new version of MacOS.

I would suspect that you have something installed that is causing issues. You might want to figure out what is common across all 3 machines that isn't normally installed for others.

Be careful updating! Halfway through the installation, the fans on my MacBook Air 2018 went absolutely crazy and the computer shut itself off. Now it won’t turn back on!

Updated to 11.2 on my M1 Mac Mini with dual Dell monitors (T3->HDMI, HDMI).

Took roughly 30mins to install. Half way through the install, one of my monitors (T3->HDMI) went black. Around 80% through the install, the other monitor started flickering with blue/white stripes for awhile. That gave me a fright!

But eventually both monitors came back normally as the installation went about and eventually it was a success.

Well, I am pretty sick of this new M1 now. I've had continual problems with it not waking from sleep. For over a month. I am set the Mac mini not to sleep and just have the display sleep. Just about every other day, pressing a key wakes the display momentarily (a $2000 NEC monitor) and then the display goes out again.

I'm gonna get this sent back at this rate, I thought the update would sort this but it's even worse.
Have you tried a wipe / clean install?

Impermanence. Nothing lasts forever. We're all gonna perish someday, some sooner than others. Your Mac seems to be one of the unfortunate fellows…

It's taken forever. Do you connect yours to power when downloading and installing?

Running off of fully charged battery but don't think that's it since I can download a multi GB Linux distro in the background in a few minutes while waiting on Apple's slow servers.

Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.2, the second major update to the macOS Big Sur operating system that launched in November. macOS Big Sur 11.2 comes more than a month after the release of macOS Big Sur 11.1.

First-Look-Big-Sur-Feature2.jpg

The new ‌‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11.2‌ update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.

According to Apple's release notes, macOS Big Sur 11.2 addresses several bugs, such as an issue that could cause external external displays to show a black screen when connected to an ‌M1‌ ‌Mac mini‌ using an HDMI to DVI converter and a problem that caused iCloud Drive to disable when turning off the iCloud Drive Desktop & Documents Folders option.

Apple's full release notes for the update are available below:Though not mentioned in the release notes, one of the macOS Big Sur 11.2 betas removed a feature that allowed Apple apps bypass third-party firewalls, security tools, and VPN apps. ‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11 included a ContentFilterExclusionList that let Apple's apps like the App Store, Maps, iCloud, and more to avoid firewall and VPN apps that users had installed.

These apps were not able to filter or inspect traffic for some built-in Apple apps, and the functionality has been removed. Apple apps will now be compatible with VPN apps and will no longer be able to bypass firewalls and other security tools.

‌macOS Big Sur‌ is a major update that brings a full redesign to the Mac, along with new features designed for ‌M1‌ Macs. Complete details on all of the new functionality in ‌macOS Big Sur‌ can be found in our roundup.

Did they quietly add airplay2?

Apple Configurator 2 in Big Sur macOS 11.2 is unable to see M1 Macs in DFU mode, also While the App Store still says 11.1, after hitting Get, Software Update asks if you want to continue to download 11.2.

DFU was just me (despite failing to get it to work initially across 3 M1 Macs, to an updated Intel Mac).

Had 2 printers added before updating, one usb epson printer at the office and my home airprint printer here, the airprint one is still showing and working but the office one has disappeared after the 11.2 update, hoping it comes back once i reconnect as it was a pain to find a driver, anyone noticed the same missing printers after updating?

Checked with my brother who did the update successfully now. His printers are also missing now. Same problem as you.

Some nice discovery with version 11.2 and boot time after rebooting a MacBook Air M1: Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer boot in less than 2 seconds (in version 11.1 it took almost 20 - 30 seconds). Adobe Photoshop Beta only took about 3 seconds, and now only 1-2 seconds... Illustrator boot time is less than 5 seconds. Mimestream, a wonderful native Gmail client... less than 1 second! Pages, 1 second. Excel, 2 seconds. Word, 1 second.... its crazy!
