Anyone know how I can test using my HomePods as Mac speakers please? I can't see them listed as output devices in my sound options. Do they have to be paired to the Mac? And if so how is this done. Have tried googling but to no avail.
They have to be paired in the iPhone or iPad in HomeKit. Then they show up as a pair of speakers in macOS 11.3.

Anyone else get a relocated items folder on their desktop after updating? Never got this before, only file that's in the folder is "group.system_default"...what should I do with it?

My bluetooth issues were fixed with 11.1. Perhaps you have interference?
My Bluetooth problems on the 2020 13" MacBook Pro (10th generation Intel CPU) were not fixed in 11.1 or 11.2. They may have been fixed in 11.3, but I only upgraded to 11.3 a couple days ago.

Also the Developer Tools & Reboot / Shutdown occurs kernel panic issue isn't solved.

And I have now issues with Xcode, Updating fails again and again, it's downloading Xcode endless in a loop. It's twice time in LaunchPad but works zero time.

So, I've tested HomePod Minis with macOS 11.3. I've also updated firmware on the HomePod Minis to 14.5. MacOS 11.3 can play audio to a pair of HomePod Minis (unlike previous versions of macOS that could only play to one HomePod Mini or to the other one). However, there' still a 2-3 second delay, so when I tried the pair of HomePod Minis as the output during a FaceTIme call, the sound was output about 2-3 seconds after the person said something. Obviously, it's unacceptable. I'm returning my HomePod Minis. I'm not sure what Apple is thinking, but I've given up on this product.

yes, I did. There's a file in there called "What Are Relocated Items?" that states the following:

During the last macOS upgrade or file migration, some of your files couldn’t be moved to their new locations. This folder contains these files.

Configuration files
These configuration files were modified or customized by you, by another user, or by an app. The modifications may be incompatible with the recent macOS upgrade. The modified files are in the Configuration folder, organized in subfolders named for their original locations.

To restore any of the custom configurations, compare your modifications with the configuration changes made during the macOS upgrade and combine them when possible.

Configuration files with the suffix "system_default" were edited or customized, but the changes were allowed to remain installed. The system_default version of the file is provided to demonstrate what the Apple supplied version of this file would look like. It is recommended that you compare the two and evaluate whether you wish to integrate any changes Apple may have made to the default version.

To update from 11.2.1 or nah?

Feverish upgraders will say ya it’s 11.3 vs 11.2 so duh, regardless... but I want some real takes from people who have rode the 11.3 beta / RC train and are anal retentive about stuff beyond “do it” or “security tho”

I have already achieved stability (BT stability too, no WiFi issues ever) performance and battery life where I’m at but happy to indulge possibly

Edit - lol what are you downvoting ? That I’m not a blind brand loyalty type person? Assuming Infallibility of man made software 24/7?
I’m asking for empirical answers to a simple question not issuing a blanket statement that 11.3 is garbage or anything. I have no experience with it and 2.5 months of uptime on 11.2.1 and general familiarity with my machine. It’s a reasonable ask

I tread carefully
Yeah, try to not be discouraged by the few disagreements. Sometimes, I don’t know, it happens and sometimes in the weirdest of ways... some even just seem to wake up in the morning making it their goal, to dislike things on stuff that’s not even their platform of choice or even have any experience with it. It comes with the internet I guess. Sometimes it’s legit longtime users that just read the comment in a bad light.

I have a similar question but further behind, I have a MacBook with Big Sur but it’s not work critical and it would be too much effort to put it at the same level for testing. So I’m worried if updating my work desktop from Catalina (yeah, I know) would be a sensible move, Big Sur overall behaves better for me, I have tiny annoying things on Catalina like switching from a desktop space to another ALWAYS brings safari to the fore-front, I would rather windows ordering would stay like they were.

EDIT: see? 😂 I got my disagreement vote too.
I see some comments say to just wait for the latest possible update.

If you mean; click on the speaker icon in the menu bar and select whatever you named the pair from the drop down and they play in stereo as you would expect, then yes, it is supported.
But the fact that there is still a 2-3 second delay with the audio with 14.5 running on the HomePod Mini from
macOS 11.3 renders HomePod Minis useless as computer speakers.

External Monitor via HDMI on a M1 Mac mini still does not recognise the native resolutions. Let's see if every other time waking the machine resorts to a unusable resolution as well. Hope they would have fixed this. Crossing fingers that they will find a way to support 21:9 Ultrawide as a native resolution at one point in the future. All Windows PCs I have every connected to it can handle the screen just fine. HomePod Stereo works fine though. Latency is noticeable here and there, but the out of sync from before seems to be gone.
Latency is 2-3 seconds. You can’t use for anything interactive: FaceTime, Zoom webinars, etc.

I'M KEEPING THIS LAPTOP FOR EVER!

Speaking of Xcode not fully updating. I am on my third try (haven't yet updated MacOS to 11.3 yet).

Even in the best of times I have noticed Xcode downloads take a lot of time, compared to other app downloads. It might be a good idea to wait on updating Xcode, unless you have an urgent need to update it now. If my third try ends without an update (still working...I think), then I will hold off until tomorrow or maybe later.

Am I the only one for whom it took 4 hours to download the update? I'm on a gig network, over ethernet, and it crawled all day long.

All I can say is I started the update and walked away. When I came back, my Mac was dead. No life, won’t boot. Go figure
