I agree. I receive constant kernel panics, have done everything under the sun to try to fix, and am now in discussions with Apple engineers about it (I've gone through the whole Apple process to be escalated up)... Big Sur is trash.

Bill and Malinda Gates sold of ALL of their APPLE shares so that can not be a good sign.

Anyone else still have Battery Service message on an M1 machine? I have an M1 Air and my battery "needs servicing." Has said this for quite a few versions now.. Do I have to get my laptop replaced to get this fixed? Anyone have experience on how to fix this?

Sounds to me like a hardware problem that should hopefully/probably be fixed under warranty.

Did you run the diagnostic test to confirm?
So I got to the diagnostic screen and I click next through the Language selection prompt and the Apple Legal Agreement and then it freezes. It says "Checking your Mac.... About 1 minute remaining" and it stays on that screen and never changes. Tried 3x. Mouse/Cursor stops moving so I assume it's frozen. So now I can't even run the diagnostics.. (I am on 11.4) Arrrgh

Anyone did this update on a T2 machine? I see it comes with a new firmware too for T2 machines and I’m wondering if it’s safe to update. (Macmini, iMac Pro)

Nearly 4 GB download every time!! What ever happened to incremental updates? 😩
They do not really care 💩 about environment, there should be a counter of electricity needed to distribute the updates all over until it arrives to end users.

Only 4 for you? Mine is 12! Pretty ridiculous.. Almost as I'm reinstalling the whole OS. I'm updating from 11.3. I never have these types of huge updates on my Windows rig.

Same with incremental changes on iOS, they're usually huge downloads.

Strange behavior, after the update was finished and I unlocked my iMac there was a message, that OpenOffice could not be started, because it could not be verified.

Probably because OpenOffice ist not signed and I never bothered to start it before. But why did macOS try to start the application in the first place? I never had this before.

That bug has been affecting several M1 people. I have been told Apple is aware of the problem and working on a fix.

ahh okay. I'm contacting Apple Support and the guy I'm talking to seems to be clueless about the bug. Arrgh

The guy is asking me to reinstall MacOS.

Of course, it won’t. There will be at least 5-6 more years of macOS releases for Intel Macs.
I am thinking there will only be 5 OSes (for the latest Intel Mac Pro, super beast):
10.x (2019)
11.x (2020)
12.x (2021)
13.x (2022)
14.x (2023)
With the Xcode that works on 15.x, still being able to be ok with 14.x (EOL...)
