The kernel is updated by this supplemental update.
After the update:
Code:
Darwin Mac.local 19.6.0 Darwin Kernel Version 19.6.0: Thu Oct 29 22:56:45 PDT 2020; root:xnu-6153.141.2.2~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64
Before the update:
Code:
Darwin Mac.local 19.6.0 Darwin Kernel Version 19.6.0: Mon Aug 31 22:12:52 PDT 2020; root:xnu-6153.141.2~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64

So kernel wasn’t updated?
Look at the last 3 numbers of each code line. There's a difference.

Catalina is great, What is it you don’t like about it?
There's nothing wrong with Catalina. After a couple of updates it's been perfectly fine. You're trashing it just because. 🙄

I know, but like Vista, Catalina’s image has now been badly damaged.

Windows Vista was a fine OS after Service Pack 1 but its image never recovered in the public eye

Are you saying the FIRST initial release of Big Sur is more stable than the latest release of MacOS Catalina? your statement is absurd, it will take months for Big Sur to be anywhere near “Stable”

Catalina has been superb and rock solid on my 2017 MacBook Pro..
Very stable for my 2010 mac pro....

Last time I updated with one of these, on Mojave, they broke screensavers with photos.

Don’t know if they’ve fixed that one yet.

Catalina has become the Vista of Apple

I was feeling the same way until recently, when I got a new Mac Mini & Time Machine wouldn’t restore to it with Mojave. So put Catalina on it, migrated what I needed, and I’m surprised by a) how I’ve have no problems, and b) it looks no different than Mojave.

Things that changed, though, is that unlock with my Apple Watch works 100%, but I think that has to do with the new hardware, plus now I can unlock passwords by double clicking my watch and, really, sidecar is amazing.

Glad I finally updated.

What I don’t like is iCloud file sharing folders can only be created by iOS 13 and Catalina and not Mojave.
So to create a shared iCloud folder for my iOS 12 iPhone it was something tricky to do but is working.

It's a big ass install for 3 security fixes at 1.2Gb running latest catalina stable version. I wonder why they are so inefficient with their patching.

Catalina is the final OS for a few Macs (MBP Mid 2012 comes to mind) so that's why Apple keeps fixing bugs instead of focussing everything on Big Sur

It contains more than these security fixes. That is just what Apple publicly documents. They still update lots of other components at the same time, without saying what these changes do. macOS supplemental updates are nowadays akin to iOS “patch” updates.

This whole update has updated kernel extensions (lots of hardware drivers), firmware updates and an updated image for the recovery volume, among other things. If they update app or kext bundles, then they usually update the whole bundles that have changed, not just the actual changes in the files (probably for code-signing reasons).

What if you're still on Mojave because it runs so smoothly and the endless stories of the dumpster fire that's Catalina are a deterrent not to update?
I am still on Mojave but held off on the security update from September, do you know if the issues have been resolved for that?

I guess that means it really is Apple’s Vista, then.
Let the trolling go. Vista had problems from start until it was fixed and "renamed" to Windows 7. Catalina had a few issues from the start (like most newly-released OS's) and Apple took care of it. Catalina runs amazing now and I use it daily to run my business. Please take your hatred for Apple somewhere else.
