Guys so after applying this update i noticed an odd thing, my macbook pro 13 inch 2017 model is set to go to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity, in order to wake it up from sleep i would either click the keyboard or click the touchpad and it would wake up, It works the same way now but right before waking up i get an apple logo and a progress bar that appears for less than half a second after which my macbook wakes up from sleep right away, i didn't have this apple logo and progress bar showing up before waking up from sleep before applying this brand new supplemental update,

Is this a reason for concern or is it normal?

I think they had some intern dev run sudo touch kernel.com
Given that 2 of the 3 security vulnerabilities patched by the update were kernel vulnerabilities, I don't think it's quite that simple.

I know, but like Vista, Catalina’s image has now been badly damaged.

Windows Vista was a fine OS after Service Pack 1 but its image never recovered in the public eye
Vista was convoluted and restrictive (windows defender) compared to XP and people bulked as they were unsure of the benefit. Also the Aero theme was a performance hit for many systems.

All Of this left many users asking “why?” And just sticking to the better performing XP that they knew.

The kernel which idk what it is changed cuz this:

But I still have a bug with the TouchBar.

It’s not happening to me, but I have a bug on the TouchBar; Have you guys noticed on the TouchBar when you guys switch apps or click outside of the apps and click back again really fast the Mission Control icon flashing like for half a second, showing the finder TouchBar options, I believe it’s a bug; it doesn’t happen on another versions of Catalina.

Someone told me this:

The reason it happens is because when you click off to desktop, the application in focus is finder, So it starts to show the finder touchbar,
But you have no finder windows open, so finder hides the touchbar controls.

Still I find it annoying.

Yep same here 10.15.7 is a very stable OS ....for me way better than any of the others since OS4.1

After finally getting an update that stopped my Mac from crashing constantly, I'm never taking an update again lol.

Your statement is absurd. We all know Leopard wasn't great and that Snow Leopard when first released was more stable than Leopard. Same goes could go for Big Sur.
Big Leopard could be a good name for a macOS version.

Three Questions:

1. As of right now, why is there no link to the 10.15.7 Supplemental Update on Apple's website?

2. I know can be downloaded from the Mac App Store using the Update feature in the System Preferences app. But why cannot it be downloaded from Apple's website?

3. Will the 10.15.7 Supplemental Update be later released inside of a newly revised 10.15.7 Combo Update?

There's still no link to the 10.15.7 Supplemental Update on Apple's website:

Does anyone know why?

still basic os wallpaper on boot after the update...it's driving me crazy

I am still on 10.15.6. Do I download 10.15.7 first and then the supplemental update will follow automatically? Thank you.

I noticed the same thing happening before this update after a restart on my 2019 13" MacBook Pro.

I'm no expert but I'm guessing it has something to do with the "Data" and "Preboot" volumes that appear in the Recent Items menu.

It'll go back to normal after a while.

HTH

It’s impressive that this version is forwards compatible so many centuries! ;)

Why don't they have a minor version number instead of calling it a supplemental update?
The problem is iOS changes the first number every year, so you have iOS 14.0 and a path can be called 14.0.1
macOS is always 10, so the first number is gone. They could either have a 4th number for a patch, or drop the 10 and call it 15, 16 etc like they do on iOS

Already on Big Sur not working as all my program works fine just a few that I know the developer will release an update when the official release is out as usual and I do without those for now.

Which apps don’t work? Does ms office work?

Catalina on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro has been more stable than Windows 10 on my late 2017 Omen by HP laptop, where updates caused Windows to eat itself several times.

After the third major Catalina update, my 2012 MPB wouldn't safe-sleep or hibernate. It just runs down the battery when the lid is closed and then crashes when I plug it in and power it back up. Did all the SMC, NVRAM resets and such and adjusted the pmset parameters. Tried a fresh Catalina install on a fresh SSD.

I thought it was my MacBook, but a couple weeks ago I went back to Mojave and it's working perfectly. I've read about the same problem on the same machine from a few people, including on the forums here.

What do you mean by safe-sleep? It wouldn’t wake up from sleep when you open the lid? Which third major update are you referring to?

I mean it wouldn't safe-sleep at all, or hibernate. It would just put it to regular lite-sleep like you walked away from it, so when you open the lid, if it hadn't ran the battery dead yet, it would immediately be at the login screen and fully awake.

The third point release, 10.15.3. If I install 10.15.2, it works fine too, but I'd rather have an updated Mojave than an outdated Catalina.

I see, what year MacBook was this issue on?
