As you say iOS should get a 10.3.4 for this, as the problem was made known to them when iOS 10 was the latest OS. I would go further and say that an update for 9 and 8 would be nice. I believe Apple should provide software security patches for 5 years after selling a product.

I'd go so far as to argue that any OS that is still being signed should be patched. (No platform topped out at iOS 7 or 8 though... if it runs 7 or 8, it runs 9).

So used to seeing an estimated install time with the progress bar, but was blank. Had me worried as it didn’t move before rebooting.

Yeah, Apple should put a bit more focus into how the update process is presented. What with completely blank screens, a temporarily frozen Windows-style spinner, occasional cursor appearances, wildly varying estimates and multiple progress bars, it’s a worrying procedure for someone who needs his computer for work tomorrow! It went ok for me, but the best thing to do is go and have a cup of tea while it sorts itself out.

I'm hoping this fixes the issues on my 2016 mbp where the computer doesn't hibernate with the lid shut, issues not accepting mouse clicks after its been woken from sleep and a few other things.

You are right about 8, but not on 7, that is the max on iPhone 4, so no 8 or 9 for those owners.

You know, if I can't even remember *why* I've kept a fully-charged 4 running 6.1.3 in the stack of test devices on my desk, it's probably a good time to just toss it in the drawer. *sigh* :)

It's about time we get more emojis! We're running it on a "pro" laptop after all! I felt crippled without those, now my life is complete.

Anyone know if the security update for Sierra includes KRACK fix?

Also, I applied the above mentioned security update for Sierra, but now I can't see it on MAS under "installed updates" How can I know if it really updated or not? Safari and iTunes updates show up, but not the security fix.

Yes, it does: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208221 (at very bottom).

You should be on build 10.12.6 (16G1036). Prior to the update, that was (16G29).

What's with the above qualification: "all compatible Macs that are already running macOS High Sierra."?

How do I go from 10.12.6 to High Sierra 10.13.1?

You install the release version of 10.13, then use the Mac App Store to update to 10.13.1.

Photos crashes all the time, but first let's introduce these amazing emojis. All we need is emojis...

  1. Do you send in the Crash reports when they appear on screen?
  2. Do you provide supplemental information with the Crash report when it prompts for that?
  3. Do all of your photo libraries crash, even new ones? (launch Photos with the Option key held down to create a new library).
Photos is a VERY important app for Apple, so one would think if this crashing issue that you are experiencing is a widespread problem, they'd have it fixed. But likely, it's something specific to your library.... corrupt photos or something. So Apple needs to see your Crash reports to investigate that, and the more you send in, the more you'll get their attention.

That's the Updates tab for updating software that has already been installed on your system.

You need to navigate back to the Featured tab. The link to macOS High Sierra is one of the tiles at the top. Or if you scroll down below the "New Apps and Games We Love" section, you'll see a small macOS High Sierra tile. Click that.

Or visit https://www.apple.com/macos/high-sierra/ and click on the Upgrade Now button in the upper right corner of the browser window.

I don’t see any mention of the keychain bug being fixed in 10.11 and 10.12? I thought it affected older OS versions as well as High Sierra? Concerning if so and it still hasn't been fixed... anyone have any info to share on that? I thought the guy who reported the bug said it affected older versions too (10.13 was already patched for this).

I think this update just bricked my mac. Updated to High Sierra yesterday and it went fine. Installing this earlier today and my went away and mac was stuck in a black screen. Held the power button, and it appears to be stuck in some kind of infinite install loop.

Edit: it seems the issue was that FileVault was still encrypting my disk before I attempted to install 10.13.1. Was able to boot using safe mode, encryption is resuming. I guess I have to wait before it finishes to attempt again.

It seems the black screen that was seemingly frozen after attempting to install 10.13.1 was waiting for disk encryption to finish. IMHO, Apple should check if filevault is done before any new OS can be installed.

[doublepost=1509486707][/doublepost]Thank you. So, I have to update to 10.13.0 and then to 10.13.1?

I can't recall having to do this two step process before.

If you downloaded the High Sierra Installer from the Mac App Store eight hours ago (or yesterday), the installer would have upgraded you to 10.13.0. In that case, you would need to also update to 10.13.1.

If you download it right now, it will bring your system to 10.13.1 (includes the update released today). In recent years, Apple has updated their downloadable macOS installer with the latest bits shortly after they release an update.

Previously, one had to install the base system, like 10.x.0 and then install an update or a combo updater to get their system to have the latest operating system version. Now that Apple has stopped releasing macOS on physical media, they update the downloadable installer. Easier to distribute than pressing a new edition of installer DVDs.
