Just spent about 45 minutes on the phone with apple explaining to them that the current implementation for IOS is not parity complete with desktop - there is no way to hide messages from the list if you swipe your only option is to DELETE from every were - not ideal

Might want to post your list to https://www.apple.com/feedback/ next time to make sure it the right person sees it and save both you and the person on the phone some time.

Slightly off topic, but I can confirm that Content Caching does work for me, for the first time ever! My iMac is set up to be the caching server. It downloaded the 2.2GB file from the AppStore and while it counted down to reboot, the MacBook Pro (the the same account) downloaded/copied the file from the iMac in about ten seconds, across the network. Once these two had updated, I ran the update on a second MacBook Pro (on the same network but with a different account) and again it downloaded/copied in about ten seconds and then restarted the update process.

Success, at last. It must have been fixed with a previous release as earlier on, Content Caching was a dog and few seemed to get it to actually work. Of course, it could have been my own stupidity...

Well, yes. That is how it has always worked, even before messages in iCloud.

Hrm.

Well, I guess that's just the way it is. More of a convenience feature than a security one in that case. Still happy for the convenience. Thanks for your response (and the others I have got to this question).

Is there a reason why Apple hadn't released an actual web app 'Messages' on iCloud.com? If they do that, does that means it will hurt iPhone and iPad sales?

I think it would more likely hurt mac sales... If people could use their PC to send iMessages that would be one less advantage to having a mac if you had an iphone.

Question. I am testing this iCloud iMessage feature and I noticed a pretty glaring problem.

If I delete a message on my iPhone or iPad, it deletes it everywhere. If I delete a message from my Mac it does not delete everywhere.

Is there a way to fix this?

1. Apple must implement some trash can feature and ability to restore accidental deletions on device with out having to restore from backup.

2. When you decide to remove the entire transcript you must be required to enter your iCloud password since the action is destructive across all devices.

3. Clarity as to what keeping messages 'forever' means in the settings - does this supersede and persist over the on device deletion.

4. Swiping left on a Message from someone SHOULD NOT DELETE the transcript from all devices!! It should archive the conversation so that it can come back when ever you engage with the party again.

5. There should be some 'view message transcript' from the contacts app so you can review all messages, regardless if they have been 'archive/dismissed' from the messages.

5. What happens if you have a group thread does it delete the group thread or ALL transcripts from the individuals in the thread.

This is exactly why I don't plan on using iCloud Messages yet. It's too easy to destroy all copies of a conversation.

Is the "Enable Messages in iCloud' checkbox not showing up for anyone else?

I’m not seeing it on my iPad or iPhone. Don’t see it under Settings >> Messages nor under Settings >> Accounts & Passwords >> iCloud. Both devices updated to 11.4. I also updated my Mac and was able to find the Messages in the Cloud just fine.

Wrong thread.

Until the release (just now) of 10.13.5 - macOS did not support iCloud messages. Now it does. Hence your issue.

Go to Settings > your name (Apple ID) > iCloud > you can check Messages there in 'Apps using iCloud'

I am using the latest Mac version 10.13.5. Hence, whyI am asking if other people are having this issue. Did you test it yet? Like I said, it delete everywhere including the Mac (since I have iMessage iCloud on my Mac enabled) when deleted from another device. However, if deleted on the Mac, it does not delete on my other iDevices.

I see. Well, whenever it stops being stupid and actually finishes uploading/downloading, I will do a couple of test deletes.
