I don't really understand why there's so much fuzz about Safari? Like, did you all buy a $4000 M1 Max so you can watch Safari scroll at 120 Herz? Why is it so important?
I usually work on the Safari, hence I do not want to see a bug or lag.
Normally I would not pay attention to that, however it becomes really annoying as time goes by. In addition, it makes it harder to look at the display while you do something on a website on the Safari.

Hence it is definitely needed to implement 120Hz (well, okay at least the native one, 60Hz) on the Safari.

I am now on 12.2 but I see no difference, in fact. I hope it has been resolved, but I notice nothing yet.

Looks like Apple fiddled with the resolution menu ? After updating to 12.2, the font, icons, etc. are bigger (then I had in 12.1) and it looks pretty bad when mirrored on a 34" 5K LCD. Selecting the customized resolution "More Space" makes everything too small and selecting it right next to it makes everything unnecessarily bigger compared to the last solution. Do you guys have it that way too?

Appears to have fixed the Time Machine unable to finish issue that many systems experienced. Only completed one time machine backup since installing 12.2 - but it worked normally. Running a second one now (I use 2 Backup Drives), Both were newly formatted with encryption. This MBP M1 MAX came with Monterey from factory and has NEVER before today completed a Time Machine backup (and I tried most of the work arounds). So far promising, let's wait a few days....

They're not rushing out this release to satisfy your 120 Hz scroll needs or these minor bugs.

There's some massive security fixes in this one, for holes that were actively exploited by malware in the wild.

Wanna read some horror stories for today? Check these out - a long list of zero days.

Plus there's one for iPhone

So whenever I see the red update button, I assume that Apple's pants are on fire, and I better install that update like yesterday.

The nature of the errors is disappointing too - buffer overflows, code validation, etc - I would bet all my money that there are thousands more in the OS of this kind, if not tens of thousands.

Security is basically over.

Before installation I had about 60 GB free on my MacBook Air, and now after updating I've got 37 GB free. Daisy Disk doesn't show anything unexpected but I don't see how it's possible a point update taking up over twenty gigs??

EDIT: After a few hours the free space went back up to 60 GB. The space must've been taken up by some temporary files that were purged after a time. Just in case this happens to any of you, keep an eye on it and it should go back to normal.

Today's 11.6.3 OS update hasn't fixed memory leaks.

Maybe too early for anyone to know... But I'm really hoping this addresses the bug where Monterey kernel panics and restarts occasionally on M1/M1X Macbook Pros if you have an external display attached and the clamshell lid closed on the laptop itself and it goes to sleep.

It is over for a long time, as it seems. Apple products being "secure" is an illusion. *cough* NSO group *cough*. Apple's reaction is even funnier.

I don't know what they fixed specifically, but I was having a problem with the systemstats process blowing up to gigabytes in size and causing lots of memory pressure and slowness. I could trigger the condition easily by just opening up a bunch of apps. For no apparent reason systemstats would suddenly start climbing in memory usage. After upgrading to 12.2, systemstats is staying normal at around 12MB of usage. I hope this is permanently fixed.

I have a fully functional top spec 2012 Mac mini that could support Monterey but I’m stuck on Catalina.

I think Apple needs to somewhat decouple Safari from the OS. Is there a reason that Safari can’t be treated like any other app? If it was, I’d have fully functional hide my email instead of a halfassed implementation.

I’m not looking for all the feature updates for my Catalina box but if I’m getting security updates I would think that safari updates could be accomplished as well.

Apple only strands devices like this to force hardware upgrades. If the cared about environment more than profit they would extend Mac support to 10y minimum.

Edit:

Just checked Update and macOS Catalina Security Update 2022-001 10.15.7 @1.5 GB and Safari 15.3 update @92.7 MB are available. Total 1.60 GB.

Very sad to see USB issues have not been solved yet...
My Verbatim USB flash drive will not even show up in System Monitor unless I reboot with it plugged in. And will not work if I unplug it and plug it back in, it's like it's not even inserted.

It's not a USB-C hub issue either, the same thing happens with my iMac with built in USB-A ports...
There will always be USB compatibility issues with various computers and USB drives. The solution is to get a different USB drive. I have several and only specific ones work consistently with all of my machines. A few of them work consistently with some machines but not others, across various OSes.

No the new Music app is there.
It’s just that all the changes are in the way the app was built, not the user interface.
So the most you’ll notice is that it might be a little bit more snappy here and there, but in terms of the regular user experience, no differences

Past time to rebuild Contacts and Calendars there’s so many useful Easter eggs they could have incorporated by now.

Problem is, scrolling is glitchy even on 60hz. It’s not smooth and seems to lose fps if you know what I mean. Doesn’t happen in other places. Feels like a crappy chrome book from years ago

The update is not 11 gigabytes. It is 2 gigabytes. And a trillion dollar company should be able to afford server speeds quicker than a four-hour download speed for a file that size.
They can and do, what’s between their server and your machine is another matter. Pretty amazing Apple can release multiple platform updates in same time frame. Then have 10’s of millions or more downloading simultaneously or close. Clearly Apple’s fault?

It may not even be coming from Apple's own servers anyway. eg. The download may be served from Akamai, for example.

Music app definitely running much better, although thats only because the previous music app was a complete disaster. Seems a shame to me that launching this new music app still causes a legacy x86 visualiser process to launch on an M1 laptop, was it too much to ask for them to have migrated their own software to their own processor by now?!

Right… except it worked fine on Big Sur
Also this happens on every single Mac I own, and I’ve never had issues with this particular USB drive.

Also I’ve never had in 20+ years of using computers with USB ports encountered this phenomenon you just described.
Weird stuff where I have to use a different USB port or devices mysteriously disconnect? Sure. But I NEVER IN MY LIFE had a specific USB device refuse to work with a specific computer.

There isn't any issues with MagSafe. The only issue was in 12.0.1 i think where when it's powered off and the lid closed. The MagSafe will be stuck in a cycle. But yeah it's fixed and there is no more MagSafe bug AFAIK. Are you sure it's not your MagSafe cable or the laptop since i think it could be hw issue

Edit : and it was only on 16"
Yeah I know it was just for the 16”. I have the issue though, taking it into Apple tomorrow.

My external display changed from separate display to mirroring after the update completed. I've never had that happen with an update before.
