I couldn't update normally, always got an error in process. But Recovery Mode helped me, I updated from there.

Thanks this worked ! on 12.3 and data preserved.

tried everything, updating to 11.6.5 first before 12.3, safe mode, repair disk, terminal download of 12.3,e tc.

Updated both MacBook Pro M1 and iPad Pro. Universal control does seem to work well for me, had to first enable it on the Mac though.

Maybe its just me, but I'm a little disappointed and feel it is a sign of the times at Apple that Universal Control is now officially released into the wild but is still in Beta. This is not the way to develop software IMHO. Mac OS is already riddled with bugs, this only goes to further show everyone that Apple doesn't really care about the quality of the software they are pushing out right now.

Does 12.3 address the issue where it’s impossible to boot an Apple Silicon Mac from an external USB-C SSD? I’ve tried so many times now getting this to work, but I always end up with an error.

Oh fun! Have tried updating my MacBook Pro M1 Max 3 times now and it fails with an iBoot Panic. Last attempt was in a new clean admin account. Only good thing is that it falls back to 12.2.whatever and doesn’t brick the darn thing.
Has your Mac ever had its motherboard replaced?

11.6.4 to 11.6.5 update went fine but 11.6.5 to 12.3 gave some error about preparing setup and now it just shows a spinning beach ball on desktop. Currently making a USB recovery installer.

Same thing here, my MBP 2021 also have replaced motherboard.

I cannot install macOS 12.3 in any way: direct upgrade, install via App Store, Recovery Mode, DFU Restore, all failed. All versions before macOS 12.3 works. I have to download IPSW for macOS 12.2 to use it.

The motherboard replacement must have some issues with the new MBP. I cannot get Apple Pay working until after months struggle with AppleCare and finally writing an email to Tim Cook...
I had the Apple Pay bug too! The fix is to create a new Apple ID, create a admin user for that and go to setup Apple Pay on that user. It does a full reset of Apple Pay, after that you can go back to your original user and go set it up again.

No idea on the fix for 12.3 though! I don’t really see any point taking in to the Genius Bar yet, given they’re likely to just want to replace the logic board again.

Sounds like you'll need to send it back to Apple which is a pain.
Honestly, I actually don't think that's useful here. Genius Bar is only going to want to replace the logic board, which given a new logic board seems to be the cause of the fault here, I'm not sure even that will fix it.

Unless Apple want to do a full machine swap - which I guess they might if I push hard enough...

But this sounds like it's likely something to just wait for 12.3.1 for a fix. I just wish I knew how I could get the attention of someone at Apple who I can actually help to solve the issue with - not like anyone in Apple Support is going to have a clue what I mean when I talk about DFU failures and iBoot Panics!

I want to update my MBP 16. No logic board replacements. But just to be safe. Using Apple Configurator revive option works fine right? To revive it ? Using the 12.2.1 one and then reinstalling the OS directly on top of the SSD? And it shouldn't result to any data loss right? Thanks

Yup! pretty sure our issue is specific to machines with a logic board replacement though, so I wouldn't worry!

Unfortunately, Universal Control does not let you use additional mouse buttons if you've got any. I have a logitech M690 which has a back, forward button and the scrollwheel could be pressed too -- all these I've customised on my original Mac, yet they don't work when I move my mouse via universal control to the other mac.
With Teleport app, which does the same thing as universal control, it used to work. It's a shame, cuz universal control is much smoother, but I'm not able to use any shortcuts.

This updates to 12.3 doesn't fix the kernel panics or screen blanking/sleep issues with using the M1 MBP with a thunderbolt dock in clamshell mode.

The panics or blanking happen after login - so the issue is not about electronics or the physical path from laptop via dock to external display.

I'm updating my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 which is on Mojave. It's 12.22 GB which is reasonable for a full update. It will probably take an hour. I will update the iPad later on and try out Universal Remote. I do hoe that it works between two MacBook Pros.
please report back about your performance & battery life :)

Another saddened 6900 XT owner here… I wonder why they killed the performance…
I have a theory. This is the first version of Mac OS to support AMD GPU rendering with Blender. My guess is that this took a lot of work. Not only did Apple work on Blender to make it work with Metal, but Apple will have had to re-work bits of Metal to make it work with Blender. Perhaps the performance drops are a side effect?

This is actually great news for Blender users. For everyone else, not so much.
