ans I don't mind them working in apps and whatnot but those can be updated separately... of you do OS updates just do OS updates and that's it!

KDE is doing quite nice thing - they have separate Plasma releases (sp base KDE) and apart form that they have Plasma Apps release track where they cover the apps...
KDE is not a OS, irt is desktop layer for a OS.

macOS 15.4 did not re-enable AI on my M4 Mac mini.
iPadOS 18.4 did not re-enable AI on my M4 iPad Pro.
I had to pop out this morning, so I thought I would let it update, and yes you are right, it don't re-enable the AI, which makes a change, maybe Apple have decided to stop pushing people to it.

Why is every .x release on MacRumors treated like the Second Coming? SO MUCH HYPE BEFOREHAND.

There are 4-ish things in 15.4:

--Mail Categorization (the only "significant" thing)
--Sketch in Image Playground (woo. hoo.)
--Some new emojis (double woo.)
--Apple Podcasts widget expansion (whatever that is)
--Quick Start (only about 10 years late)
--Vulnerability patches (I should hope so.)

What's missing:

--Anything Apple Intelligence-related, other than enhancements to Image Playground, which makes everything look like they were produced by artists on Benzedrine
--Priority Notifications
--Helping Siri know what month it is
--Fixing HomeKit
--Fixing the Apple Music app (it sucks more and more every year they don't touch it), and other "legacy" apps

I have been using Apple products since 1983. So in Mac OS 16 we get a new UI? That is called, in the industry, "lipstick on a pig." Focus Apple, focus.

Typical. The update breaks pdf viewing. Shipping labels that I normally print show an empty template I had to fire up an old windows machine to print them. Grrr

Me too, as I find it helpful on iOS Mail.

However I was imagining this would be a redesign of macOS Mail. It looks more like they just awkwardly plastered those buttons across the top. I also can't for the life of me figure out why All Mail is hidden out of view. Sadly, more sloppy seconds from iOS, I guess.
Mail UI patterns are quite stable and mature. There’s no need to redesign the UI. I’d love a chat-like threaded view by conversation. But that’s still nice to have. The All Mail view seems easily discoverable but we’ll see as so many users never adjust default settings. They’ll likely be happy not turning it on when prompted or turning it off after trying it. For all who’ve used Gmail it’s easy to understand.

Macbook Air M2 have it but the size is big . 6gb .

Fair, but I stand by my comment that this feature feels like a bit of iOS awkwardly grafted on to Mail.

I can't imagine, for example, why I can't drag and drop an email onto one of the categories to recategorize something. That would be a pretty familiar UI pattern in macOS, but we're getting a UI inherited from iOS, so anything that isn't easy on a phone screen just doesn't get used.

But why is it hidden? On iOS, there's a plausible reason of space limitation. But when I'm looking at four ultra wide "buttons" with easily enough space for the fifth, now I'm just making an extra click to show it, and for no good reason that I can discern.

Like I said, it just feels grafted on, and I wish macOS was getting more real attention and less sloppy seconds from iOS.

Um, the OS is, you buy a licence to use it, which is the same for most operating systems and software. So yes, they can do what they like. But I understand where you are coming from

But the data, that is the value of System setting stored on my computer, is mine and they changed it without my permission.

The problem is how long for? It is gettng to the stage where AI is everywhere, I have even seen a printer with AI on the box. Washing machines with Ai and even a flipping cooker.
If it is true AI, what ever true AI is, I don't know, but they are certainly using AI to try to sell more units.
Myself, I would go the opposite way.
Already on Android phones, if you use Google Assistant, then you are using their AI Gemini rubbish and there is no getting out of it, apart from not using Google Assistant. Which I don't as I have Alexa as my voice assistant on my phone, not that I use it much, the assistant I mean, not the phone.

I wonder how long it will be before Apple decides that it is going to stop us disabling the AI. They already re-enable it after every update.
I think that avoiding AI from now on - as long as our civilisation endures - is going to be pretty much impossible.

It's slightly glitchy fad now - but soon it'll be far more competent and everywhere.

So good luck with avoiding it - we'll all need to get feature phones (or an open source android one with no AI).

We are the same boat.
I bought my Mac last month and what i did after i unbox it? turn off Apple Intelligence immediately after the first start.
I'm not big fan of Ai thing ( although i still use ChatGPT for my workflow) . But i feel i don't want to use on MacOs much. Luckily i can turn off this feature easily and continue to use without any problem.
Why they keep adding AI stuff on my machine. So annoying

Still, Apple intelligence on macOS has been so unintrusive so far, almost invisible. I haven't seen it jumping in or interrupting my workflow, so far.

Is anyone else having serious stability issues with this update? Things are taking forever to load. Apps lock up and when quit, I get a beachball for 10 min or more before the app finally closes and force quit won't work. Super slow as well. I'm on an M1 Mac Studio base model.

No such problems on my M4 Mac mini.

Have you checked the state of health of your SSD? It could be expiring.

What is it with the new Emoji counting has new features. More cute little pictures to stick in emails or text messages are not a feature.

Finally, the update appears. But! It killed the os. It was installing and all of a sudden I got a message that system drive needs to be checked. After that it was impossible to boot the system. All I got is the message that Reinstall is required. Now I am reinstalling the os. Nice update! The best one! First time I’m facing this
Same happened to me.
First install failed, but was able to reboot.
Second attempt screwed things up.

Now trying to restore

M2 Mini.

The play icon in the menu bar references a video in Safari that no longer is loaded in Safari.

Here I have Safari with no tabs, and only MacRumors loaded, but clicking on the play icon shows this:

If I hit the play button, nothing happens of course, since there is no video to play in Safari.
