Isn't what exists adequate with answering iPhone call via WiFi on a Mac, why does macOS 14 need to mimic iOS 17 ringtones and audio notifications?
What? They were "synced" on all previous systems that supported either receiving/making calls/messages/mails etc - those are basically the same apps now and I'd rather have the same ringtone playing when both my Mac and iPhone signal incoming phone call - not a cacophony of different sounds on both devices.

Also, as other users found out during RC phase - those new sounds are there in the system files, but somehow are invisible to those apps that should be able to use them.

I updated to Sonoma yesterday and it looks like I'm going to have to revert back to Ventura. I use a motu MK5 ultralite audio interface connected via the built in hub on my LG ultrafine 4k monitor. Under Ventura and earlier OS's, When I locked the Mac, the monitors would go black as expected, and I'd just wake it via Touch ID and everything worked fine. Now, under Sonoma, I wake it and it auto-reboots every single time. When I connect the ultralite directly to the macboook pro (14 M2Pro), I don't have this problem.

The workaround is to just connect the ultralite directly to the MBP, I realize that, but I really like being able to connect my system using a single cable, so I'm gonna revert and hope this gets fixed either by Apple or Motu soon.

Just a heads up in case anyone else has this issue.

Thanks - I cannot back up phone and pad to my Mac mini. Ugh.

Stuck at the Lock Screen again. Looks like there's the spinning circle as if it's trying to send thru my Password, but just hangs there and stays with my Screensaver on, and eventually the login portion just disappears. Awesome. Three Hard Reboots today. And I'm pretty sure Time Machine was backing up because the External Drive sounded like it was chugging along. But How long do I wait? 4-5 minutes? a couple hours?

TBH, this is one of the worst garbage updates for me since the early Big Sur days on AS when it was super buggy...

I use HoudahSpot a lot and I won't go to Sonoma because mail plug-ins no longer work and HoudahSpot (and some other useful apps) use them.

I log into my PC once a month just to update it.

Windows 11 is turning into such a shambles.

I logged in on Saturday and the first notification was from Microsoft asking me to enter a competition for some stupid prize.

I built this workstation for work not to get ****ing adverts for competitions to win stupid prizes.

Don't get me started here. I've had so many problems with Windows 11 on the same hardware I've used for the past 4 years on Windows 10 that I'm tempted to swap out my boot drive again and go back to Windows 10, which was solid for Windows.

Had many issues just after updating, but after force quitting the Finder and restarting multiple times, it seems fine now.

Apple today released macOS 14 Sonoma, the newest version of the operating system that runs on the Mac. macOS Sonoma has been in beta testing for several months, and it is compatible with the 2019 and later iMac, the iMac Pro, the 2018 and later Mac mini, the 2018 and later MacBook Pro, the 2019 and later Mac Pro, and the Mac Studio.

The ‌macOS Sonoma update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Settings.

macOS Sonoma adds interactive widgets to the desktop, bringing them out of the Today view and making them more prominent and useful. With Continuity, you can even see and interact with your iPhone widgets on your Mac.

There are a range of new Apple TV-like screensavers that feature slow-motion videos of worldwide locations, along with matching desktop wallpapers. Apple added a new Game Mode for Macs with Apple silicon chips, and this option prioritizes games on the CPU and GPU for smoother performance.

Video conferencing gets a boost with a Presenter Overlay effect for sharing content, plus there's a high performance mode for Screen Sharing that offers higher frame rates and low-latency audio so pros can access their content creation workflows from anywhere.

Safari's Private Browsing mode is locked behind Touch ID, Profiles can be used to separate work and personal browsing, and there are improved tracking and fingerprinting protections to preserve your privacy. You can save your favorite websites as web apps on the desktop or the dock, and they will work as regular apps with a simplified toolbar.

Many of the features that are in iOS 17 are also in macOS Sonoma. The Messages app supports a new stickers experience that turns all emoji into stickers, the People album can recognize pets, and Visual Lookup works with videos and can recognize food and identify symbols on labels and signs.

AirTags can be shared with other people using Find My, iCloud Keychain passwords can be shared with friends and family members, the Notes app supports inline PDFs, and Siri can now be activated without saying "Hey." Apple's full release notes for the update are below.macOS Sonoma brings all‑new capabilities that elevate your productivity and creativity. Discover even more ways to personalize your Mac with stunning screensavers and widgets that you can add to your desktop. Elevate your presence on video calls with a new way to present your work that keeps you a part of the presentation. Safari profiles and web apps help you organize your browsing in all-new ways. Game Mode boosts your gaming performance. Sonoma also brings big updates to Messages, Keyboard, and Accessibility. And when you upgrade, you get the latest security and privacy protections available for Mac.

Hey Apple, I am pissed. I see 17.0.2 is out now fixing a problem transferring phone info to a new one. Whoopee. But what about plugging my phone now into my Mac Mini M1 doesn’t work anymore via finder to back up phone over USB/ wire. This stinks. It looks to me that the transfer issue about exporting phone to a new one is related to transfer of phone to backup on my Mac. I have that tingly feeling these are related problems.

Umm... You did take a backup of your Mac before upgrading, n'est-ce pas?

I've restarted and hard rebooted a few times today.. Shut down and waited.. I did manage to get all my drives listed but then the Lock Screen thing happened, now I'm back to trying to get my drives mounted again after a few more reboots. This really sucks! I did not have this issue at all (and haven't all Summer) on my M1 MBP. I only Upgraded to Sonoma on my 2018 Intel Mac mini once the RC2 was released.

This is like, really bad. I've even reinstalled Sonoma LOL Hard to expect much when this happens to me right out the box.

:::EDIT:::
Once again, shutting down completely and unplugging all drives, starting back up and then reconnecting each drive again "fixes" this issue for me. Feels so delicate! Like the wind could knock it over..

I’m also seeing this momentarily after initially signing back in:

I have issues opening Samba drives from a Linux NAS. It seems to authenticate fine, but then mounts it without read privileges and errors out. When I connect via sudo open smb://… in Terminal, it works. Also affects my Time Machine running on the same NAS. Anyone with similar issues?

Yes TM - AND CCCloner 6 - but not going there right now - my TM is working and don't want to re-install VENTURA - after all phone and pad are going to cloud - I can hang with it for a while. Phone's (12) seen in image capture - phone is there in System Information "About This Mac" too. So it's something buggy in Finder ????!!!! The update to Sonoma did SOMETHING. Even tried plugging into USB C port on Mini using an adapter cable Lightning-to-USB C. Also through a USB C Hub with 4 USB C ports 10GBS which supports two external HDs fine. Still not showing in Finder. Thanks.

Anything good about this OS update apart from superficial eye-candy crap (that I am not going to use anyways)?

browsing through various harrowing experiences in this thread gives me a feeling that we have been gifted a CS undergraduate's past deadline course submission packaged as a Mac OS. Feel pretty bad for y'all here...
