browsing through various harrowing experiences in this thread gives me a feeling that we have been gifted a CS undergraduate's past deadline course submission packaged as a Mac OS. Feel pretty bad for y'all here...

Yes. About dozen or two unique posters in this thread, about half those mentioning a problem, and only about 2 of those with merit, amongst millions of installs without issue.

Feel totally bad too...

Not at all. Have you ever managed a large software project before?

Is the Widgets options menu supposed to open up at the bottom of the screen all the time? I can't move it anywhere else.

I updated to Sonoma yesterday and it looks like I'm going to have to revert back to Ventura. I use a motu MK5 ultralite audio interface connected via the built in hub on my LG ultrafine 4k monitor. Under Ventura and earlier OS's, When I locked the Mac, the monitors would go black as expected, and I'd just wake it via Touch ID and everything worked fine. Now, under Sonoma, I wake it and it auto-reboots every single time. When I connect the ultralite directly to the macboook pro (14 M2Pro), I don't have this problem.

The workaround is to just connect the ultralite directly to the MBP, I realize that, but I really like being able to connect my system using a single cable, so I'm gonna revert and hope this gets fixed either by Apple or Motu soon.

Just a heads up in case anyone else has this issue.
Update: I moved the Motu Ultralite MK5 to a port on the MacBook Pro and I'm still getting kernel panics on wake from sleep. So it's gotta be a problem related to the LG ultrafine monitor or with the Anker USBC hub attached to it. Doesn't happen when just the motu is connected so can rule that out. Reverting. I don't think I've had to revert an OS in at least a decade and I pretty much always go with the .0 version. Kernel panics never happened on this machine until today; until Sonoma. Not once.

Yes TM - AND CCCloner 6 - but not going there right now - my TM is working and don't want to re-install VENTURA - after all phone and pad are going to cloud - I can hang with it for a while. Phone's (12) seen in image capture - phone is there in System Information "About This Mac" too. So it's something buggy in Finder ????!!!! The update to Sonoma did SOMETHING. Even tried plugging into USB C port on Mini using an adapter cable Lightning-to-USB C. Also through a USB C Hub with 4 USB C ports 10GBS which supports two external HDs fine. Still not showing in Finder. Thanks.

You may not have a choice. When I had problems with High Sierra not working well on my MBA, I had no choice but to roll back to Sierra (which was/is still rock solid on that MBA), and restore my data from TM. I say this because this will get you back to the last good known state of your Mac prior to upgrading. I'm solid for the time being on my Mac running Monterey, but as I'm dealing with a buggy W11, I'm tempted to swap out the drive I have W11 on, put back in the W10 drive I have, and go about my day. The key here is stability, and apparently, Sonoma isn't there just yet. Hearing these reports, I'm glad I didn't update yet.

Overall, I have been pretty happy with this year’s software updates. They appear to be geared towards performance improvements and my iPhone, iPad and MacBook feel smooth again. I am digging the new UI on the Apple Watch and the Apple TV as well.

Shame that my 2017 5k iMac is losing support, and it still works well enough that I don’t really feel compelled to upgrade (I mostly just want that huge gorgeous display).

Not a bad year for someone who hasn’t bought a single Apple device this whole year.

Any kernel panic is an OS bug, unless it was caused by the legacy system extension installed by the device. Please submit the report to Apple.

You know what I don't like about the reaction feature? No one actually will answer the question. I asked a question and got a bit of a smart-aleck response:

You know the top bar that has the apple logo, what browser you use, file, edit, etc? Is there a way to change that to a black color and the text be white? I changed the wallpaper and now the top is sticking out like a sore thumb. I guess I can go full screen on my apps but I was just wondering if there was a way to change it to something not white.

It's called the Menu Bar and has been called that since 1984.

I ended up searching and found that if you click on Reduce transparency in the accessibility settings, that will darken the menu somewhat. It's not a perfect solution but it's something at least.

I do appreciate the likes/reactions though, I just wish someone had answered without making me feel dumb for not knowing Mac Basics. :(

From going back through the past few pages, it reads to me like those with peripherals are the ones having the most problems with the release, or at least with connecting peripherals to their Macs. iDevices not being able to connect, monitors not being able to connect through something 3rd party, etc.

At this point, like I said above, I'm more inclined to not update yet. I do connect a monitor to my Mac via the HDMI port, so I'm okay there.. but I do connect a USB-C docking station to my Mac, connect 2 USB-A devices to that, my cord for my watch and Airpods, and ethernet.

I know that Apple is basically doing their tests against standalone Macs and not against any other non-Apple devices that would connect to it, and that it isn't their responsibility for 3rd party hardware to stay up to date, but ugh..

Perhaps again it's time to wait for .1 or .0.x..

Wasn't about making you feel dumb. It was about giving you the correct term to search for, which you did.

I'm in the same position.

I am considering running OCLP Sonoma on my 2015 Macs. I'm running Monterey on them right now but Sonoma seems quite smooth and pretty fast on Intel Macs.

macOS Sonoma has the worst out of the gate memory management since OSX 10.7 Lion. If you have a Mac with only 8gb DO NOT upgrade until/unless they fix this. My base M2 MBA runs in the yellow on memory pressure at idle with no open apps and I installed it fresh from scratch. It's been installed for 24 hours to the initial "initialization" stuff is long done. Do with this what you will.

Wait, can you please explain how ? I also have this issue with the Menu Bar being white despite my Mac being on Dark Mode and I just don’t like how it looks 🥲

For some reason, it seems to be only a problem with the default Sonoma Wallpaper (both the light and dark options). It becomes black again when I choose a custom wallpaper.

That's weird.. I have a base M2 13" MBP (8GB RAM) and I don't seem to have any memory pressure issues, even when there are multiple windows open. I just upgraded to Sonoma a few hours ago, and it has been running very smoothly for me so far.

In settings go to Accessibility, and then Display. Then you will see a button for Reduce Transparency and it's probably turned off. Turn it on and the Menu Bar turns darker.

OK limping along but got it done. Using an older USB 3.0 Type A powered hub the phone and iPad "seen" in finder and backing up to Mac. Dunno if the "cure" was shutting off/on DVDs etc. in Finder sidebar, running disk repair on boot drive, shut down, start up - but pad just finished backing up. Hey AppleCare, you can just go back to sleep.

So in the TV app there's now a circle with an arrow pointing down next to the episode length. It doesn't do anything when clicked and doesn't show any text when moused over. Does anyone know what this means/what it's supposed to do?

Looks like Download command. When the episode is downloaded locally, the arrow changes.

Thanks. It seems that it actually means "stored locally", as these are things I've added myself: they were never downloaded. An arrow pointing down is not, in my opinion, intuitive for "stored locally".

And you're running Motu driver version: Mac v93305 , yes?
